I work for a Security Company and the site I work at creates and ships educational materials. This Company is very 'Green Focused' (will make sense later in this experience). I had heard stories from other Security Officers (S/O's) that had worked there concerning the strange sounds heard during the 3 shift (2300 (11pm) to 0700 (7am)). These ranged from footsteps following the S/O, footsteps on the metal roof, the feeling of being watched/not alone in certian parts of the building and even phantom whistling were the most commonly reported ones.
I have worked this site now for 6 months, and while it is kind of creepy I have been able to debunk all but one recurring event. First I will describe the buildings that I patrol...
They are both Large Warehouse style buildings with Metal Roofs. The one that contains the Security office is 3 stories tall and most of it is actual 'open' Warehouse/Manufacturing spaces. The South end of the Building contains the Main Offices and some computer work stations, all of which are on the Ground floor (there are no second or thrid floor areas, just wasted space). The Second building is only 2 stories tall, it contains a small warehouse area in the center with offices and computer work stations on either side of that warehouse area, and like the first building everything is on the ground floor.
The Reports:
1st: Footsteps following individual Guards.
Debunk: Either echos that the Guard mistook for footsteps or one of the small crew of individuals that works third shift walking unseen in another part of the 'open area'.
2nd: Footsteps on the Metal Roof.
Debunk: The metal roof contracting as it cooled off from the heat of the day. As it 'settled' the noises did sound like footsteps at times.
3rd: Being Watched / Not Alone Feeling.
Debunk: It only seems to happen around the computer server rooms, the Electric Relay Boxes or the battery charging stations for the wearhouse equpiment. Can you say high EMF? (Electromagnetic Fields) I knew you could...
4th: Phatom Whistling.
Debunk: I have to admit the first time I heard the 'whistle' and for quite a long while I couldn't quite figure this one out. Then one night while tracking down an odd vibration in the vent system the Fans for another part of the building started and the 'belt drive' whistled as it slipped.
The only one I can not debunk is the strangest of all and it involves the Ladies Restroom near our Security Office. We can not see people enter the restrooms but as one walks past or while in the Mens Room you can hear one of the stalls in the Ladies Room flush. (Go on Laugh, you know you want to...) The First time this happened I stopped to see who was in the restroom, as the 3rd shift personal work in an area where they have access to a different set of restrooms in their break area. After a few minutes no one came out.
So I knocked on the door and asked if whoever was inside was ok. After receiving no reply I entered and checked the restroom, no one was in it. I shrugged it off... Not a big deal, maybe I heard something. Two nights later during a different Patrol the same thing happened... This time I reported it as I thought that the batteries in the 'auto' flush valves may be dieing or malfunctioning. Maintenance checked them but all seemed well. Long story short, one of the Toilets continues to Flush, on it's own for no apparent reason. Maintenance went so far as to place 'flow meters' on each Toliet to determine which one was flushing.
The results of the 'Flow Meter' showed that stall number 3 was the 'active' stall. No one could figure out why. I asked my Supervisor if anyone had 'passed away' in this particular bathroom. Now my 'Captian' has been on this site for many, many years and the only real incident he could recall was that of an older female employee that had had a heart attack in that rest room, she had arrived at work that morning, gone in to use the facilities and gone into cardiac arrest... But she was rescued by EMS who took her to the Hospital, she did pass... Due to heart failure... At home...2.5 years after her first Heart Attack, which is the one she suffered at work.
So there you have it... The strange experience of the 'Flushing Ghost'. Still do not know 'who or why' this is happening, but I will keep trying to help this individual.
Respectfully,
Rook
