Real Ghost Stories

I.o.u.

Last year I lost my boyfriend in a car accident. He had been out of town for the weekend, at a conference, and he was coming home through the countryside when it happened. It was raining and some how he lost control and the car flipped.

It was late at night when I got the phone call. I don't remember much from that night, just crying and shaking. We had been together for three years and I just couldn't believe that something like this could happen.

He had left a message on my phone saying that he would be home soon and that he I.O.U'd me a weekend, because we were originally going to the conference together but I had to stay home to finish up some work. I listened to the message every night just to hear his voice.

Three months later, on our anniversary, I was driving through the same countryside, at night, to go visit a friend when in my rear view mirror I saw a car wreck on the side of the road. I couldn't believe what I had seen because I had just driven past it and nothing was there. I checked the mirror again and saw a figure standing in front of the car wreck. I immediately stopped the car and jumped out to look back but no one was there. I didn't know if it was a hallucination or ghost but I quickly got back in my car and drove off.

I had only been driving for a couple minutes when I realized that the glove compartment was open, which was odd because I hadn't opened it and it couldn't be opened by itself. I kept driving though, determined to get to my friend's house and not think about what I had just seen.

But after arriving at my friend's house I had to satisfy my curiosity and checked the glove compartment. Inside was the photo I kept of my boyfriend and I. And written on it was I.O.U. I guess we got our weekend after all. <3

I'm with samtillie and GoldPhoenix. The last part of the story struck me as fiction, especially because of the way in which it was worded. It just doesn't ring true to me. 😕

That's exactly what I thought, (yes I know, completely heartless). We shall never know, there will be no participation from the author.

Im sorry but that last part with you getting the weekend at the end makes this story sound made up.
But ofc everybody here who is sensitive to this kind of thing found it so sweet and bla bla and will attack me for my opinion

This hit me right in the feels as my boyfriend and I have been together for 3 years as well, and I just couldn't imagine the heartbreak you had to go through. He will always be by your side, every step of the way.
Thank you for sharing.
