Living in Windsor, Ontario, we always heard the rumours of the creepy Texas Rd., situated about 20 minutes from Windsor in Amherstburg.
One mild October night four of us piled into my '71 Torino and decided to cruise to Texas Rd. It was close to midnight, and believe me, it was dark as could be, and there was a light fog on the road.
We were cruising at a low speed with the windows rolled down. The cemetery was ahead about 50 feet when all of a sudden a headless object darted across the road. We all screamed and I gunned the car as pebbles and rocks kicked up as I fishtailed down the dirt road until we finally interesected at a paved road (Howard Avenue) everybody was still in frenzy about what had happened. My buddy suggested we go back again to which we all disagreed. Five minutes later we were headed back for more punishment.
The fog was coming in thicker, and we were all frightened yet excited.
Just as we approached the cemetery we heard a loud wailing and then again, the headless object ran out from the graveyard wielding an axe.
Needless to say, we high-tailed it out of there. Nobody knows for sure what it was, but there was something on the road that night! Repeated visits to the road also provided other sightings and sounds. I am a firm believer that there are some strange things happening on the road even today.
Local kids knew that everyone would come at night to visit the haunted cemetary and they would run out at the cars and scare the hell out of city folk. This is the reason the cops eventually closed the road. I posted a bit about it in another texas road heading
