The Ghost In The Office

This creepy experience happened to me back in 2009. I used to work in a makeshift office in Manila. It was an old expat house, with the owner as our boss. The creepy feeling of the house is aggravated by the antique furniture that my boss is fond of collecting. The house was once chosen to be the set of a local haunted film because of its creepiness. Since the house is big, he converted the first floor into an office space where we usually take shifting hours of work. The second floor houses the living room, a bedroom, bathroom, dining area and the kitchen.

My work schedule was flexible, meaning I could cross shifts from afternoon to night shifts. My work station was somewhere near the stairs (located in the center of the ground floor, very much of the old wooden houses in the Philippines, so I get a good glimpse of the whole floor as well as the stairs beside me). All throughout, I had been feeling like someone was seated or was standing on the staircase. But I was quick to dismiss the feeling and told myself that I was only scaring myself to death. There have been stories already about that house and I just listen and don't entertain the idea.

It was around 2am while my officemates and I were laughing like crazy at a video we were watching over the internet when suddenly I felt something strange and it was as if I had something heavy on my shoulders. It was spine chilling and I felt a sudden brush of a cold breeze at the back of my neck. I have an officemate who told me that there was a new office worker who could see ghosts. I quickly sent a message via Skype to my office mate telling him to ask the new officemate to look over our side. I was surprised with what she said: "It's gone. He just passed by your back. But he was there staring at you guys for the past 15minutes from the stairs". Oh my, we never told her anything that I was experiencing something creepy at that moment but she what she said made perfect sense with what she said. How did she know about the eerie feeling I had that somebody or something is watching over us in the staircase. How did she know that I felt something at my back? Needless to say I didn't take another nightshift for the rest of the month.

The house is creepy itself but it was creepier with the unseen members of the house. More creepy experiences we had in that old house on my next post.

Thanks for sharing DCinAZ. I too have the highest respect for all war veterans. I have been to Bataan, to Mt. Samat specifically, where the end of the march has took its place and yes, even after decades had passed you can still feel the gloominess of the area. And people don't stay there after 6pm because the place has a lot of unexplained noises and sightings even after all the visitors have gone home. I have my personal stories to tell too with Bataan and Corregidor, a place heavily bombed too during the war. I am sure your uncle must have endured all the pain there is at the time of the war but I am grateful that he was able to share his part of history to us. May God bless you. ❤

Ria_012, I don't wish to freak anybody out by what I have to say, I never have really told many people about this, but my Uncle V. (I won't give his full name) was a survior of the Bataan Death March and he taught me from as far back as I can remember to have the highest respect for the Philippine people. He never talked about what happened to him but he never forgot the suffering that occured there and made sure that we knew that what he went through was nothing compared to what your people had endured. He's passed away now, but until his dying day he never forgot. In my heart I know he would want me to tell you that. It's a small gesture but I know, but it comes from the heart. ❤ May peace be with you and yours forever and those sorrows never darken your door again. Thank you. ❤

Thanks blue_raven80. I believe that the owners of the old house are still there not to haunt it but simply because they have been used to taking care of the house when they were still alive. They don't hurt us maybe they just want to make their presence known. 😊

Thanks DCinAZ! I totally agree with you. With all the wars the our country has gone through it definitely has its own scary story to tell.

I've read a lot of the stories from the Philippines and I believe your islands have got to be haunted. With all the wars and sadness from those old days it would almost have to be. With your ancient culture and all your ancestors have endured throughout the centuries it would surprise me more if it weren't. You're very brave to have your work station next to the stairs, I probably would've moved! Thanks for sharing your story, I enjoyed it very much. 😲

I am from the Philippines too and I believe you because our house is haunted as well. I believe that old houses have that eerie feeling because of the history and the longevity of the structure itself. If only walls could tell us what happened we can easily send those spirits to the other side and not leave us puzzled all the time.
