She Cried In Front Of The Closed Door

Now, I'm sure everyone has those nights where you just wake up randomly and can't go back to sleep. Well, I was having one of those nights. I usually don't have these kind of nights, so as I lay on my bed I thought about what I should do. I decided to pick up a good book I had been reading for the past two days. I sat up in bed, turned on my lamp that sat on my night stand, picked up the book, and started to read.

Now, I had woken up at about 3:00 AM. And, I believe it was at about 3:20a.m when something very strange, mysterious, completely terrifying happened to me. I started to hear a woman cry. Now, at first I just sort of ignored it, and tried to read my book. But these cries were like sobs, and it was almost painful to hear these sorrowful cries. At first I thought it was my mother upset about something, but she never cries. I just knew it wasn't her. Dad? No. I had no other siblings, I'm an only child.

I quietly set down my book, and just stared at my door. Now, there were three things that made this experience terrifying. One, there was something IN THE HOUSE that was crying. It sounded like a female, and it sounded distressed. It wasn't my mom; I had NO CLUE what this was. Two, it was in the middle of the night, and I was the only one up, so I was basically on my own. Three, it was coming from behind my closed door, not the closet, the door that leads to my bedroom! For a second I wanted to open the door and see what it was, but of course I quickly crossed that out. Then as suddenly as it came it went away. The whole experience lasted maybe nine or 10 seconds. But every second was horribly terrifying. I feel asleep soon after that, and when I woke up it was about 9:00 in the morning. I knew my parents had to be awake, and I knew that I had to tell them. You have to remember at the time, I was hoping that it was my mother crying that night because I didn't want it to be paranormal. (I've had experiences at my house where paranormal type things happen.)

I told my parents all about what had happened and asked my mom if she had been the one crying. She just looked at me and shook her head slowly. Both of them believed that I had heard _something_, but they weren't sure what it was. Mom thought it was a ghost, dad didn't. Then about four days later, something amazing happened. Mom and I were sitting at the table eating our waffles, and then dad came into the room. He looked directly at me and said; "Becca, I heard the crying noise last night, and let me tell ya, it was pretty freaky."

This was the last time any of us ever heard "the crying noise". The experience happened about 6-7 months ago. To this day I've always wondered what it was, but to this day I still can't figure it out.

Thanks for reading this story, it is appreciated! More of my unexplained experiences will be posted soon!

abyx,
Lady_glow is right, comments is not the place to enter an entire experience, as it will never get the attention it deserves, but it also detracts from the OP's experience. I do understand your excitement over finding someone else who'd experienced the same though.
If you wish to submit it for possible publication and get your very own page, I have some FREE tips for you! Double check your spelling, and use smaller paragraphs when possible. 😊

Abyx: it would be better if you submit your story in the section "Submit your Story" instead of posting it under the comments section of someone else's experience.

Ok, It's me I'm back,... Since I have re-typed my whole experience from scratch (on fb), I thought why not post it here also now:

This happened in late nineties, I was 18 years old, the time was around 3:15 AM... I was playing a videogame called The Need For Speed (1) and I was trying hard to make it on the last Alpine tracks when all of the sudden I heard a weird faint noise coming from what it semed my computer..., I can't describe it but it was noticable, a bit annoying and repetitive, something like a screetching fan, perhaps. I turned off the speakers and I still heard it I turned off my pc I still heard it, couldn't make out what it is but it started to get clearer, it started to resemble a woman's cry, a desperate woman's cry, and it was coming from behind the wall of my room. I went to check, I stepped outside my room and looked at the stairs and there was that room, the one behind my bedroom wall. I heard the crying was coming from there, and there was nobody, it was a room where we kept some old stuff, functioned almost like an attic. But the lights were off, and the crying was clearly coming from there, I remeber I took a few steps towards that room. Each step made me realize, that turning back would be a better option. So I got very scared in seeing all that darkness and hearing that cry... I went back inside my bedroom, I leaned towards the door with my ear to hear the crying better, to make out if maybe could be my mother crying in the middle ofd the night, perhaps. The crying sound was similar to hers but in all honesty almost all women sound alike when they are crying in such a way. As I said lt was clearly woman's cry a hopeless one, very loud and desperate, and I definitely I couldn't confirm or negate if it was my mom's, althogh she never did anything like that that I know of. The crying started coming towards my bedroom door, I heard the crying get louder and I didn't hear one footsep. I was so frickin' scared I just stood there paralyzed from fear and being on the verge between opening the door or not. I was afraid if I did anything at all the "entity" could react unpredictably, of course... I heard stories of possession before... Anyway, I decided not to communicate with whatever that was and I was standing there still torn between the thoughts of opening and not opening the door. The war inside my mind was going on full steam, torn between curiosity and fear. I was still paralyzed with fear, I remeber that I remembered the phrase "curiosity killed the cat", lol. It was the fear of the unknown. I felt so insignificant and powerless. I remeber becoming desperate, due to my inability to act, perhaps I was in a state of cognitive dissonance? I remeber leaning my forehead on the door and resting it there, and I felt the presence being literally an inch away from my face, just on the other side of the door, literally loudly crying her soul out - and believe me - that crying was terryfing. So desperate, so hopeless, so loud and I had a weird feelings like the "entity" wasn't capable of feeling my fear, Idk. How to explain, but it almost felt like an recorded event in time going on full automatic sequence. It wasn't responsive to me, except the fact that it parked itself in front of my bedroom door. Not one word was uttered in what felt like 20 minute to half an hour. I was getting so tired and by now I knew I won't open that door for nothing, so I decided to go to sleep. I remeber was how difficult and slow the time passed by when I was in bed and tried to sleep, I couldn't. I was so scared that I went under the covers completely, perhaps later I got extremely sleepy because there was way less oxygen under the covers. I don't know. But one last thing I remeber was that the crying got louder at one point and I kind of got the feeling that the crying got iside of my room. It was hard to tell because my doors are slightly bent and the noise in front of my door can feel like it's inside the room. Anyway, I was practically gone to sleep land by then cause I remeber that part so fuzzy. The next day first thing in he morning I asked my mom if she was crying at night, and she said "no, this certainly wasn't me". She also said "next time give us a call when you hear the crying so we can go check what this poor soul needs". And at that very moment chills were down my spine, just by hearing her saying that. To this day I'm bothered by the experience, I still think about it very often. I'm trying to figure out if it may have meant something, but one thing I'm sure, this really happened. I personally experienced some other minor anomalies in the house after this event. And my dreams were full of dead ancestors blaming us for they have been buried somewhere they didn't belong and wanted to be buried at our place, but these were dreams. Years before the event I had my parents repetedly heard heavy weight boots walking upstairs in the house, in my room and other rooms near mine. I was 5 first time it happened. Tehy went check on me I was sound asleep, it was in the middle of the night. This repeated a few times, and each time my mom being religious, she arranged some mass for the souls in purgatory and the events stopped. I also remeber my father due to being a speleologist he found two human skulls during his cave exploring expeditions and brought them home. Back to my experience, after that and the weird dreams we decided it was time to get those skulls to rest and we brought them back to where they were found, as far as I know we haven't had any significant experience with the paranormal since then.
I also wrote this same story 12 years ago on IMDB real life paranormal experience topic under An American Haunting movie message board, it was written in even greater detail since it was fresher at the time. I was horrifed when I found out the whole thread was deleted. Thee were 500+ pages of chilling real life paranormal testimonies worth of the best youtube horror narrators to read. I read them all, it was a great read, but now it's all gone, because IMDb has to purge the "trash" every 10 years. So sad!

For the record, a few years ago I watched a ghost movie called the Uninvited (1944) and it depicted a hauted house where there was practically the same crying sound, very similar, it gave me such ghoosebumps.

I will keep checking this page for any of your replies, I'm thinking in writing my story on this page as well. I'm so mad 'cause I had my whole experience written down on a forum where there was a thread where people were recounting their experiences and had like 500+ posts. I just found out last year they deleted it! I was trying to find some txt file where I copy/pasted the whole thing, but I don't seem to have any luck so far. MAinly because my experience happened 18 years ago when I was still a teenager. I am 36 now. The experience left me baffeled to this day I will never forget that night!

Omg I can't believe after all these years I finally found such a similar experience of what happened to me, only it lasted much longer, but the story is almost an identical carbon copy of what happened to me. I made this account because I wanted to contact you Fireflies101, but I don't see any way of doing so through this page.

That is very interesting because I have never heard anything like it. It sounds like someone or something in pain or sorrow and just wants someone to know. If it happened two times it could have been that it wanted more of a reaction to itself so that it could let someone know. I usually think that if it happens more than once, it could be reaching out for comfort or for itself to be known. Great story!

Just a thought - do you have any family friends or relatives that are going through a hard time? It could be a kind of astral way of sombody living reaching out for support or comfort?

Thank you Trix and Shadowspirit for suggesting the house history. There have been no murders in the house. No one has died in house or on the land. The previous owners were actually friends of the family, in a way.

No, Zilla. It was not a cat, my father and I are sure of that. You would have had to hear the cries yourself. Thanks for your suggestion anyway.

Most likely a Cat, I have heard cats in heat and they can sound exactly like a person moaning/talking/crying/yelling. It's very scary and creeps me out. Could be a cat calling in heat like I said. Or just calling out to other cats or maybe claiming its territory.

Hi Fireflies101, oh my gosh this must have been very disturbing for you to hear such cries in your house. Did you ever think of digging into the history of the house? It sound like something very bad and emotional happened to that poor soul. If something happened there it will most likely repeat itself again after some time. Thanks for sharing. Take care. Trix ❤

wow, I have never heard any reports like this before

Maybe you should look into your houses past, to see if there were any murders there

The crying you heard may have been a previous owner, in pain and slowly dying. It doesn't sound harmless and probably thinks youd do more harm to it

How long ago did this happen?
