My husband and I decided to spend our first anniversary at a bed and breakfast in Gettysburg. It also was the start of the 150th anniversary for Gettysburg.
Though I enjoy staying in so called "haunted" hotels and B&B's, this time I went out of my way to find a B&B that posed no paranormal accounts (this was my anniversary, I did not need a spirit creeping around).
The Bed and Breakfast was outside of town, you had to get off the main road and drive a few miles down back roads. Although the building was there during the time of the war, there was nothing creepy about the house.
The owners converted the old stables into four amazing bedrooms, one of which was ours. We had a top floor room, with a fireplace (though it was much too hot out to have it on it, still made the room home like.)
After going around the main town my husband and I headed back to the room tired, he feel asleep instantly and I stayed up reading for a short time. I had the bed lamp on so I would not disturb my husband, out of the corner of my eye I thought what I saw as a male pacing back and forth at the foot of our bed. I did not feel threatened in any way and I decided to pass it off as a trick of the light. I can tell you it wasn't curtains because there was a couch pressed up against the window on that side of the room.
The next morning I told my husband what I thought I saw but also explained I was reading in the semi dark so might have been nothing.
The next night (after spending the day wandering the battlefield) we again went to bed. This time I was writing ideas down for my book, then shut off the light and rolled over to cuddle with my husband. After rolling over, I felt someone climb in bed behind me and lay their arm on my side. I opened my eyes and I was indeed cuddling with my husband, so who was behind me? Again I felt more comforted than anything so I chose to go to sleep. (I have seen, felt and experienced many ghosts, spirits, angels or what ever you want to call them. I was nowhere near frightened by the spirit in our bed.) Also, being a light sleeper I felt when I was no longer being cuddled.
The next morning was the day my husband and I were supposed to check out. We were laying in bed talking and I started to drift off again, when I heard, "HEY!" really loud, so loud it felt like it reverberated in my head. (As odd as that may sound that's how loud it was and what I could describe the feeling as.) I sat straight up and looked at my husband and said, "You didn't have to scream in my ear to get my attention." He had a look of confusion on his face and simply said, "That wasn't me." My husband is a skeptic only because he has not seen anything, but he believes that I have. (Does that make sense?)
Anyhow we went down and spoke with the owners. I asked if anyone has ever experienced anything in their Bed and Breakfast. They said people had seen horses, and heard the horses, heard shots, seen soldiers, then she described my three stories (I never tell my stories to keepers until they recount occurrences). I then told her to add my three experiences to the list to back up the people who experienced the same. She then went on to say that the house was an old field hospital, and took us outside and showed us that there was a small battle just across the road. (Oh sure, why didn't I research better.)
I would go back to this B&B, not because of the spirits (ok partially) but because of the history, and the people who run it are amazing.
