Haunted Dorm Bathroom

I am currently attending a college in the southern part of Missouri. I have heard many ghost stories about dorms. Before my incident I really had not heard any of the rumors about my dorm so it's not like I was really freaking myself out or anything. It was about a month into the first semester of my freshman year and my dorm is a freshman dorm. It is also one of the older ones. So obviously it full of hyper first year college students that are excited about their newly found freedom.

It was about 2AM and my dorm has a community bathroom. It had about 6 bathroom stalls and about 5-6 shower stalls. I had been awoken by whoever was above my room because they are always bouncing a basketball or moving their furniture around. So I decided to get up and use the bathroom. I went down the hall and was proceeding to do my business in one of the stalls. There was no one else in the bathroom but me. The door to the bathroom is really loud so I would have known if someone had came in after me. All of a sudden I hear someone run really fast in front of the bathroom stalls and into the handicap stall at the end of the row. Then I hear a burst of whispers. It sounded like a hundred people were whispering all at once. I freaked out and left the bathroom as soon as I could. I didn't tell my roommate until later because I really didn't want to freak her out.

The next night I was awoken again by the people that lived above my room. This had happened probably 4 or 5 times a week since I had been down at school. That night I was basically pissed because I was so tired of it happening. The next day I went downstairs to talk to the hall director (the boss of my dorm) about it. I told him I was just so tired of being woken up almost every night. I told him that I didn't want to get anyone in trouble it was just starting to get ridiculous.

The sounds kept continuing and I just tried to ignore them since the hall director said he would take care of it. Finally it was about two weeks later and nothing stopped. So I went back downstairs and asked if he had talked to the room above me. He told me this statement: I do not know how to say this but no one lives in that room. It is for special needs people and we do not have any living in our dorm this year.

I was shocked! I asked him if anyone had a key to the room and he said no. He was the only one that did and the last time he was in there was the last summer.

Until my last day in that room the noises continued but no one was there.

There are a lot of haunted dorms in my college in Southern Missouri. Maybe we're the same school? Probably not, but a lot of the colleges around the Southern Missouri area are known to be haunted.

But dang that's creepy. Haunted dorm rooms always seem the scariest.

stuff like that happens to my nieces and I a lot. Reminds me of something that happened to us at camp once. It'll take some time to get used to, I don't think they are going to harm you

i would have went home and have been scarred for the rest of my life. I have always sorta wanted to hear a ghost and maybe I have heard a hi sometimes and I think someone sneezed in my house and no one was home but other than that at least its not demons right?

Well, if it's not harming you in any way, there's not much you can do about these noises and occurences.

Have you tried wearing any sort of ear muffs in your sleep?

I stayed a couple more months. They would not allow me to transfer until the end of the semester! Pretty freaky! 😁

Wow, that was a creepy story. Apparently whoever or whatever was in the dorm room above you, they enjoyed it there and were not afrais to let it be known that they were still there. Sounds like a residual haunting, but a positive one.

Thanks for sharing your story!
God Bless!

Hi jaque. It sounds like your experience might have been a residual haunting like FRAWIN had mentioned. I would have been CREEPED OUT if that happened to me in the bathroom! You must have felt so vulnerable with your pants down in the bathroom stall. Kind of like when you feel frightened in your bedroom at night and you can feel something but not see it and you don't want any part of your body hanging out of the covers for something to grab! 😨 The creepiest is the feeling on the 10th floor where the person hung themselves. Feeling like something wanted them to follow in there footsteps and do the same thing. I have heard of this hanging story before but I don't remember if it was in a dorm or a house or what. Thanks for sharing your experience. ~Shelby ❤

Hey guys! Thank so much for commenting on my story. To answer a few questions I was very shocked in the bathroom. I was so freaked but I didn't want to act to freaked in from of my roommate. Then at night after that incident happened I would just go use the lobby bathroom in the middle of the night. I know that the spirits I am sure are nice it was just so freaky! Anyway some other things in the dorm that have happened are that on the 8th floor a girl many years ago dumped a baby in a dumpster. Now on that floor residents complain about a baby crying in the night. Also on the 10th floor on our deck someone hung themselves. Now the deck is completely locked because people that said they felt like someone was trying to persuade them to hang themselves. It is really crazy! I do not live there anymore but now I live in another dorm... That story is soon to come! 😁

Hello jaque, it sounds to me like it was a residual type haunting, although quite frightening they are completely harmless. Thanks for sharing your story with us and God Bless.

Wow. I wonder who was more surprised that no one lived above you, the hall director or yourself. Perhaps the happiest time for some of these special needs students was right there in your dorm. Some of them probably had the first taste of freedom there, as many freshmen do, and enjoyed it so much, the thought of leaving is just not there. Do the new people in that room still hear anything, I wonder? Thank you for your story.

ChrisB, thank you for sharing your experience with us. Did any of the other students talk about inexplicable or out of the ordinary events? You seem admirably calm about this creepy event. I hope that it did not interfere with either your studies or sense of security. Are you still in the same dorm?

I attended undergrad at GWU in Washington, DC. A dorm I lived in for three years, Mitchell Hall, was a former hotel built in 1927. When GWU acquired it in the 1960s they converted it into single rooms typically for sophomores and juniors. There were rumors galore about the sad history of the building (a shelter for battered women, orphanage, retirement home, etc.) and as many ghost stories to match. Articles by the university newspaper never found evidence that Mitchell Hall had been anything other than a hotel previously. And, none of the "facts" of the ghost stories were ever confirmed. But, late at night Michell Hall could be an uncomfortable place. Although the halls were carpeted, several of my late night walks to the communal showers/restrooms (when the dorm was still and silent) were accompanied by the unmistakable sound of footfalls following me. Oddly, the footfalls sounded as though they were being made on a hard, tiled surface. And there were times--late at night in my room--that I was overwhelmed with the unsettling impression that something was in there with me. Although this only happened a few times, I could point to an specific spot where it seemed to be concentrated. I would have dismissed it as a freshman away from home living alone, but many of the friends had eerily similar experiences.
