The White Figure In Front Of My Door

My name is Cole. I live in one of the oldest houses in my town. While I often experience minor things such as footsteps, toilet lids closing, and the occasional sense of being watched, there is however, a few events that very clearly stick out in my memory. One of them occurred when I was in middle school (I'm 22 years old, and the event occurred when I was approximately 14 years old). The day had been a normal one. I had gotten up for school as usual, gone to school, and came home at the normal time. The event began when I was getting ready for bed. I couldn't help but feel watched, as I moved around the bathroom. The feeling went away, as I walked to my bedroom, and stayed away while I was reading before going to sleep. However, later that night, I was waken by a loud thump. I couldn't help but feel like I was being watched.

The feeling was much stronger then it had been in the bathroom. I looked towards my door, and there it was, a short white figure stood in front of my door. It had no eyes, or feet, and just stood there staring at me. It stayed just as it was as I reached for my glasses; but started to fade the moment I started to sit up, so I could turn my light on to see better.

No matter how much I tried, I couldn't fall back to sleep, because I still felt a very intense feeling of being watched. Throughout the next day, I still felt watched, to the point where I couldn't focus on my schoolwork. It took days for the me to be able to go back to normal. Even now, there are occasions where I still feel like I'm being watched, and I still feel my eyes being drawn towards the door to my bedroom.

Can you help me try to understand what is happening here? I guess it would be important to note, that my house is over 100 years old.

Melda, you did nothing wrong. I can't be constantly "policing" the thread, because I need to spend time working on the Fantasy novel I'm trying to write. It's nice to have someone stick up for me, when I can't do so myself.

Sorry for the late response Jubeele. The other members of the house have described hearing toilet lids closing, doors creaking, and footsteps on the stairs. But to my knowledge, outside of a few short instances that the entire family has experienced all at the same time, that is as far as their experiences have gone.

Cole - Now I find myself having to apologise to you 😐 Katjana's comment was not directed at me and yet I replied to it. Rap me on the knuckles if you like but I just had to say something - sometimes I can't help myself 😉

Regards, Melda

Katjana - There is no way that anybody could know with absolute certainty how an entity observes us. We mostly pick it up by the attitude of the entity and the effect it has on us.

In my personal experience (as I stated in my previous post) the two entities I saw on numerous occasions didn't need eyes to let me know that I was the sole focus of their attention. I knew they were "staring" at me!

Perhaps you should open your mind just a little? No negative criticism intended towards you but if you have a question try not to pose it as if you don't believe the author. If you don't believe it, either say so and give a reason for your disbelief, or don't comment. Just a friendly word of advice.

Cole - I'm very pleased that you expanded on the information regarding the property in your comment. No surprises that there are a few souls still present in the house and probably even more on the grounds. What an overload of history!

The apparition that you saw is very similar to what I experienced as a child. I used to see these two greyish-white "blobs" but besides being blobs they nevertheless seemed to have human-like shapes. They always appeared together. No facial features either, definitely no eyes but I knew that their attention was focused on me.

In my child's mind I used to think they were mommy and daddy ghosts because one was taller than the other. Perhaps not such an odd deduction for a child to make but I must admit they scared the living daylights out of me 😨 In retrospect I realise that they were totally harmless.

Welcome to YGS and I hope we'll be hearing more from you 😊

It had no eyes, or feet, and just stood there staring at me. - how can it "STARE" when it had no Eyes?

Cole, many thanks for the wealth of information. It sure fills in the picture. For your next account, it would be great to include such detail as well. It's rather like putting down the foundations of a house and then building from the ground up. The history you've provided is truly fascinating. 😊

I think that the renovation work at the time may have disturbed some restless spirits. Which is probably why you felt you were being watched. The original "residents" of the place were checking you out and wanting to know what their new house-mates were like. In the 8 years since that time, have you had any further experiences? Also, has anyone else in your family ever felt any "weirdness"?

If you're still being troubled in the house, one option might be to see if there are any local Native American tribes still in the vicinity. Bearing in mind the history of the town, they might be able to perform a cleansing ceremony for you. If you lean towards the church, then you can ask for advice from them as well. Because of conflict between these different cultures in the past, you may wish to have blessings from both parties after the place is suitably cleansed.

My childhood home was built over a Chinese cemetery, so my family had the place blessed by Taoist, Buddhist and Christian priests over the years. They weren't taking any chances! 😜

I'm not sure if you guys will get an alert about this comment (this is my first time using this site), but I do know a small amount about the house. Just not the families that lived in it before my family moved in 21 years ago.

The house was built in 1902. It was constructed by the same man who built the house next door. The house next door was the man's personal home. Before our home was built, the family next door used our lot as a dumping ground. If you dig down a foot, you'll come across a layer of the ash from their fireplace. Dig below that, and shards of porcelain, so well preserved that you can still see the gold and silver details, will start to come up.

When we first moved in, there was an old carriage (complete with feed trough) barn in our backyard. Unfortunately, the barn had not been maintained, and had become too dangerous to enter. My Father was forced to demolish it.

We have also had to do a lot of work on our home. We had to remove all the horsehair plaster we found in our walls, because it created too many drafts. We've also had to replace most of the windows, as well as all of the original wallpaper. Most of my "being watched" feeling, is around my Dad's office (the former front parlor), the upstairs bathroom along the wall shared by the toilet and shower, in front of the door leading to the basement, and in front of my bedroom door. Sometimes the feeling of being watched gets so bad, I can't turn my back on the area of the house the feeling seems to be the origin of the feeling.

It's also important to note, that my town was the site of two military encampments. One during the French and Indian War, and the second during the War of 1812. The land itself was purchased from the local tribe of Native Americans in the 17th century. There are stories, and physical evidence of Native American raids, throughout the town. The nearby city (I could literally walk to it if I wanted to), is known for it's haunted locations. It sits on the original location of a 16th century outpost. There was one winter when the French came down from Canada and attacked the outpost. They killed or captured more then half the population. Then, while trekking to the nearest colony, the population was halved again, as the settlers were forced to walk through the wilderness in their nightclothes. The people who died in this attack are buried in a nearby cemetery. There are even stories of statues in the cemetery moving on their own.

I'm not sure if this has any effect on my house though.

Aye-aye, lady-glow! We'll add that to the toothbrush, thermos of Bloody Marys, Ghost Pepper nachos, towel, groovy ACME outfits, clever things from Trespauze Manor - and I-Spy glasses. 😉 (Apologies folks, we shall now return to your regular channel)...

Hi Cole, when I get the occasional goosebump moment at home, I meditate for calm, say a quiet prayer and say out loud firmly: "No more nonsense please" or something like that. If you're not feeling an overwhelming sense of fear, it may be that someone's simply curious. You can explain that you need your rest to study and would like to be left at peace.

But first, do start with keeping that Journal as Rook has suggested. Then you can follow the advice from lady-glow for Rook's cleansing/ shielding method. Please keep us updated as to how you go. Be well. 😊

(Climbs on Soap Box... Clears throat...)

Pardon the Interruption...

Publicways,

It is very nice of you to be a skeptic, it is a very good point of view to have when attempting to prove or disprove the paranormal. Here is a question for you, sense you seem very certain a 'photograph/picture/video' will provide proof one way or another...

Just what type of camera should be used to 'capture' the activity that is happening? What are the settings that will allow the camera to capture a spirit/entity/ghost on 'film/video'?

Next...

Have you ever had an experience with a Ghost/Spirit/Entity or just 'odd' events you have been unable to find an explanation for? If so please share them with us so we can possibly help you figure out just what you experienced.

Thank you.

(Climbs off Soap Box)

Cole,

Sorry about that...

I have to agree with lady-glow, history, history, history. Knowing the history of a location can help determine 'what' may be happening... Or at least why its happening.

Then there is High EMF... Do the feelings of being watched always happen in the same place (s) in the house. It may be due to High levels of EMF being present in that area. EMF can come from Electrical Boxes or improperly shielded wires (common in older homes). It can cause sensitive individuals to have the feeling of being watched... Goose bumps...nausea...'rashes'...and even hallucinations MAY happen. The down side is that an 'unshielded' source of EMF may...MAY...attract a spirit to that 'spot' because it provides an energy source for that spirit.

This is why myself, and many other members here on YGS, suggest keeping a Journal... Journals help us collect data and that can be used to de-bunk or demonstrate something is happening (or not). Having the wiring checked in your home is not a bad idea... If the home is not wired to 'code' it could lead to problems in the future.

Thanks for sharing, and again I apologize for my soap box 'rant'.

Respectfully,

Rook

Hi Cole.
What do you know about the history of the house? Are you aware of any deaths happening in there?
I'm sure a house that old is bound to hold the memories of some of its previous duellers.

Perhaps some one is just curious about your presence in their space, but they don't seem to mean any harm.

You could try talking to the presence the next time you feel watched asking it not to disturb your sleep. Or you could perform a cleansing or a blessing of the house according to your personal beliefs, or try the 'cleansing and shielding method' of one of the members of this forum explained in the following link:

Thanks for sharing.

Since your were half asleep and not wearing your glasses, I'm going to go with a case of your mind playing tricks on you. If odds things happen regularly in your house though, it would be good to get them on camera and post them here!
