TruthInDarkness:
My family has lots of stories about big fish, big sea monsters, big birds, ufo's, mermaids, and even about mammoths that still live in alaska.

Suneyegirl:
If it was christmas I think I'd be excited 😆. Other then that I think this sounds like a dark entity. Sounds like your boyfriend needs to get the house blessed. If he doesn't then sounds like he needs to light up some incense.

Lou - Although I used to watch it, that was a very cheesy show.

Yes, I do believe in the possibility that some prehistoric creatures have survived over the past 65 million years. Why is that so unbelievable? Mammoths and sabre-tooth cats were around until about 20, 000 years ago.

Do research. Like I said, dinosaurs were called dragons until about the last 200 years (possibly less). Is it possible that the stories of knights slaying dragons comes from them finding fossilized remains and claiming that they killed the creature? Sure. It's quite likely. However, dragons are a part of too many different cultures to discount the idea that some prehistoric creatures might still be alive in small groups within remote areas.

We have not walked every inch of land on Earth. I'm sure that there are hundreds of species of animals that we have not even discovered yet. Then, there's the oceans. We've explored even less of them. Who knows what creatures lurk in the deep sea?

Let me give some perspective. Let's say that there's a person who's never been on an expedition in the forests of Africa. This person could quite likely travel through miles and miles of forest and never see a gorilla. My point here is that animals know their habitat much better than an outsider. They can sometimes even hide in plain site. Other times, they can take cover and you won't see them unless you know where to look for them.

A modern prehistoric animal of some kind, one that can fly, could have some vaguely humanoid characteristics. Enough so that it might be mistaken as something vaguely human at a glance. Even if it wasn't prehistoric, per se, it could have been a condor. How good of a look did her boyfriend get of this creature?

Also, let's not forget that birds are considered the closest living relative of dinosaurs. Some species of which seem to be increasing in population over recent years. I've seen some birds in my area that I had *never* seen here before. Huge birds. What I believe to be a type of pelican, but the only time I see them is when I'm driving. Usually across a large body of water. However, I did see one flying parallel to traffic one day in the middle of town. That was definitely a 'WTF' moment. It was flying on the driver's side of the car about 20 feet (or less) away and slightly above the traffic. I couldn't get a good look because of the fact that I was driving, but it was a *huge* bird with a long bill.

I went off on a tangent a bit, but it's still loosely related to the story.

Well to be fair, it is estimated that we have only "discovered" about 14% of all land animals currently in existence. Though most of the undiscovered are thought to be microscopic, or at least very small. We do occasionally discover larger animals & surely a few of the undiscovered lived way back in prehistoric times. Many historians & archaeologists agree that belief in dragons did grow out of observations of dinosaurs, though virtually all would say it was their fossils that were being observed.

I am still not sure why we would jump to a mysterious cryptozoological something, rather than one of the many often observed & well documented species on the roof. I mean, they are known creatures because they are out & about a lot.

"Marshall, Will, and Holly
On a routine expedition
Met the greatest earthquake ever known.
High on the rapids
It struck their tiny raft.
And plunged them down a thousand feet below.

To the Land of the Lost.
To the Land of the Lost.
To the Land of the Lost."

Now we just have to decide who is the most lost...

OK, You live in the desert of Southern California? Have you ever just gotten up on that roof at night and stayed up there to see what would happen?
If you do this, bring some binoculars and/or a telescope. Then pass a few of those hours just checking out the landscape. Pay attention to the remote areas. Now, if you happen to see a small explosion here and there, you'll want to check the local police logs for that time and see if it wasn't another Meth lab blowing up. That's "Meth lab", not "Mothman".
The guy in your boyfriends yard with the red eyes? Is here a possibility he was someone that escaped one of those explosions? I think he may have.
Honestly, just get up on that roof and wait. You should get much better resolution to the problem than just guessing it was any mythical monster never before seen in that part of the country.

I'm surprised that no-one has mentioned this... You know how Hollywood is when they say a movie is based on a true story. You can usually take it with a grain of salt. However, if there's any truth to The Mothman Prophecies (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0265349/), that's pretty scary indeed.

Per the movie, you don't want to have anything to do with the Mothman. It means certain death. Being that these events have happened at your boyfriend's house for years, I doubt it's the Mothman.

I do, however, strongly believe in the possibility that some prehistoric creatures survived the ice ages and the meteor impact. I believe that one possible origin for dragons, being that several cultures mention them, is that some dinosaurs still lived in remote areas. In fact, it was only relatively recently when we stopped referring to dinosaurs as dragons. Why do I bring this up? I believe that small populations of prehistoric creatures could still thrive in rural, expecially wooded or desert, areas. It is possible that what your boyfriend saw was a sort of modern pterosaur. Just a thought.

Fire_Fairy - I know! It was so creepy.

Mountaineer - I live in the desert, we don't have bears here. The only reason my boyfriend had suspected Mothman was because he had once seen a large humanoid creature that looked white and feathery with large red eyes staring at him through a window at a friend's house (which I was going to post in a later story). But that's his assumption, not mine. I never said I believed it, I really don't know what to believe. It's just one of those things I assumed would never be answered to me and always leave me wondering.

[at] Suneyedgirl: I attribute those sightings to people wanting to get their five minutes of fame. It's the same situation as with slender man, a being totally created in a contest in which the contestants were to create fictitious creatures. Before long people were reporting sightings of him. And I was thinking that if he was remote enough, the large black thing sighted on your boyfriend's roof might have been a bear that found food at/near his house and so decided to stick around, explaining the multiple occurrences. I know it seems unlikely, but its more likely than a half man, half moth isn't it?

Mountaineer - From things that I've read, Mothman had been sighted in various places other than West Virginia, including in New York, Seattle, and China. (I had to do some research after my boyfriend said he saw him haha). What he saw fits the description, but it could be anything, that's just his theory. I, honestly, have no idea! (I always thought the first to see Mothman was a group of 4? I don't recall though) I was actually going to post his story about his sighting of "Mothman", but I needed more details from him before I did, so I thought this one was better for a first post.
I live in a small desert town. The side of town he lives on is more rural. While your neighbors aren't miles away, they aren't directly next to you. There's a few open lots between you and your neighbors in his nick of the woods.

DragonStorm80 - I've never had a medium communicate with these things. I honestly don't even begin to know how to find one! Definitely worth looking into though 😆

Suneyedgirl ~ it certainly sounds like you guys have an interesting town happening over there, have you ever got a medium in to communicate with the things around you?

Mothman is an urban legend... Based in West Virginia. Considering your location is California, and the fact that the first people to see the "Mothman" were two young lovers out late for a drive (probably not to the knowledge of their parents), I doubt that's what was on your roof. Look up the Sandhill Crane, and you will find a likely explanation for the mysterious Mr. Moth. Now, is your boyfriend's house in the suburbs, with neighbors a few yards away, or somewhere more isolated?

BeautInside - There's a couple different descriptions of the Mothman. Some say he's a very tall humanoid with wings and big, glowing red eyes and pretty similar to Britain's Owlman. A few other descriptions say he's kind of a large mass, square shaped with no head, and his eyes set in his chest. In all the descriptions, though, he has the same huge red eyes. And they say if you see him once, he'll continuously show himself to you.
I don't know why I had never thought of telling it to stop! I'll definitely tell my boyfriend to do that if I'm not around.
My town is very... Interesting haha. It definitely has a lot of strange activity going around. It's a shame your town could have more you don't know about!

DragonStorm80 - We've had a few weird things. I regularly get tapping on my window at night now. At first, I dismissed it as a tree, but there's no trees, or anything really, near my window. I still tell myself that though haha. And I was super impressed that he was brave enough to go outside! I won't even look out my window if I think something's out there!

This story was quite freaky! Especially when your friend saw that tall shadow person on the roof! Have you guys had anything strange at all happen since these events? And ten points to your boyfriend for having the courage to get up and check on what was happening outside, you would have found me in the toilet! 😆

Oh the Mothman! Although I've heard about it, I don't know what kind of "thing" is that- besides that it can be a shadow. How is it shaped like? I'm curious because I'm from Portugal and there isn't any information about the Mothman here, at least not that I am aware of.
Even so, I think you should try telling it to stop, it has got to understand that it's your boyfrind's, and his family, place and they control it.
Your town looks very interesting indeed. I also live in a very historic city (well I live in the sorroundings) and I'm sure that we have our own share of ghosts, it's just a shame that Portuguese people aren't so open minded... Still, we have a lot of crazy stuff going on here!
Anyway, just keep us posted, ok?

God bless ❤

Waggon - It's so weird because his house has a flat roof with no attic and it sounds like a heavy, full grown man stomping. His mom is always saying "it's just a cat", but you can barely hear a cat walk across the roof, they're so light!

Luckkyme - Their house has SO much weird stuff happen. Him and his mom swear they've both seen chupacabras there, him and his sister had shadow people walk by the windows all the time, when they put their cats outside, they'll somehow end up back in when all the doors are closed and locked, and occasionally they'll see shadow people inside their house, but not terribly often.

BeautInside - I don't know any history on their house, but our town has a rich history of Native Americans and a huge slaughter of their people by our town founder (Lovely way to start a town, right?), as well as a history of cowboys, too. My best friend has the ghost of a cowboy walk down her street every night and I've seen a Native American run across my back yard countless times, so I wouldn't doubt if that had something to do with it. My boyfriend has a sneaking suspicion that the thing running on his roof is Mothman and swears that he saw Mothman before. Next time I hear it (if I'm not crying and hiding haha) then I'll definitely tell it to stop. Thanks for the suggestion!
(I'm a bit new at this, too. Don't worry, I totally knew what you meant!)

That's creepy... Is there any history on the house? Do odd things happen also happen inside the house or is it just outside? For what you told it only happens outside (roof) maybe it has something to do with the property...
I mean, if that's a constant situation and if it's bothering your brother and his sister, maybe it's time to get some answers (if it's a new house try to find any history on the property and if it's an old house try to find something on its history and property too). When anyone hears the stomping sound again, try telling the thing to stop doing that (you have to be very convincing in order to show that you are in charge).
😉

God bless. ❤

Wow this story gave me chills! Especially when he saw the shadow person on top of the house, I think I would've cried haha. Is the stomping the only thing your boyfriend and his sister have experienced?

I have similar stuff that has been happening at my family house for the last 3-4 years, although I have never seen anything like a shadow person. Loud bangs on the ceiling directly above my bedroom - sometimes sounding like a pecking or fast knocking. We have no rodent problems or pest control issues at all and the banging is way too loud to be an animal. Will be interesting to see if anyone has any insight!
