Yeah

I hate it when I'm doing someone else's homework and accidentally submit it to YGS, think of a title to type in, get the proof read screen, hit submit, and then it gets posted. Total bummer.

Tweed,

I hear you. Oh wait... Stand by...

(Puff comes racing of the bus carrying a large BS Blankie as he runs he says...) _

An 'Old Style' Jazz Café SOMEWHERE in the UK complete with a Ms. Bessie ghost? Oh, wait... Even better she sang in the building 'before' it was a Jazz Café, when it was a Pub... Before/during the war that took her fiancée away from her.

Jazz in the UK, Pre/During WW2, I can believe... But the rest is a wee bit to much...

lol Rook, I've been not so silently fence sitting on all of Zeromaru's stories. They've become a bit of a YGS guilty pleasure. This one takes the biscuit for being darn near impossible. I wanted to ask about the vocal recordings but it doesn't seem he'll respond.
Well, Mack brought it up already and as a musician I too can't believe a band could sync to a vocal track without say... Oh I don't know... A CLICK TRACK... Which they'd probably wear headphones for. This is too far fetched in and of itself. Then there's everything else.

I was hoping Zeromaru would prove us wrong and Goggzy could go check the cafe out, but something tells me that won't happen. 😉

(In the distance a song can be heard, growing in volume something seems to be getting closer...

"Every day I get in the queue (Too much, Magic Bus)
To get on the bus that takes me to you (Too much, Magic Bus)
I'm so nervous, I just sit and smile (Too much, Magic Bus)
You house is only another mile (Too much, Magic Bus)

Thank you, driver, for getting me here (Too much, Magic Bus)
You'll be an inspector, have no fear (Too much, Magic Bus)
I don't want to cause no fuss (Too much, Magic Bus)
But can I buy your Magic Bus? (Too much, Magic Bus) ")

Ok, ok I have been quietly sitting on the fence reading and re-reading this 'experience' and I just can not make up my mind... There are parts of it that make me think its a wonderful, if a little bit sad, love story that someone has adapted and thrown a 'ghostly element' into all the way to it being full blown fiction... So if the O/P could answer some questions it may help clear things up...

First, and not to be rude... Just how old are you? SITE SAYS you are a young adult however your grammatical pattern seems to be that of someone strictly schooled and, well to be blunt, older.

Then there is the question of what the café owner found...

"The present owner had found some old recorder discs with only the woman's singing voice,"

Can you describe what you mean by 'recorder discs'? (what comes to mind is the old wax cylinders or albums of the early 1900's recording age.) But it's more than just that... Something else you stated...

"...he hired a band to cover her songs and tried many times to record the songs on a cassette tape but never succeeded. And so there is this band right now, with no sing performing the songs for customers."

So if no songs were never recorded on cassette AND this woman's voice was only on 'recording disks' how is this possible? (Please refer to the next quote from the story...)

"I smelt her perfume and felt the warmth of her breath, a wind blew the backstage cover, and I saw was an old tape recorder, play button being pressed."

So the bus is here... However let's give the O/P a chance to address our questions/concerns as this may be a case of an over embellished actual 'ghost encounter'.

Respectfully,

Rook

(PS: Puff stayed on the bus with his hand on the BS Blankie cabinet)

Interesting. You say your mum still goes there? Whats the name of the Cafe and in what city. Would love to research it as that is what I enjoy a lot on this site.
Thanks!

There are a lot of irregularities in your story.
First & foremost, you claimed that as time passed you started to notice gray hairs on the band members' head with the exception of the woman and you told your mum your observation which she disputed; sorry to say this, but only a child behaves in that manner of chasing your mum around the kitchen and trying desperately to get her attention coupled with the manner of conversation you had with her, it seemed like a mum speaking to her seven year old. My point is if you were visiting the café from childhood as you claim, and if you were almost grown up by the time you noticed gray hairs, how many years did it take you to notice gray hairs and not improve your behavioural patterns, since judging by the years you went to the café and your noticing gray hairs which takes years to show up you should be matured by then but your attitude showed otherwise which makes me doubt the validity of that claim.
Secondly, the part where you noticed the old tape recorder looks unconvincing. How close were you to 'Ms. Bessie' for you to feel her breath and smell her perfume! It seems unreal since you were not performing on stage with her.
Thirdly, was it just coincidence or was it a miracle that at the moment when you thought you heard her singing, 'a wind blew the backstage cover...' and you saw an old tape recorder play button being pressed and at this juncture you changed your mind.
Thirdly, the response you got from the cashier seems appalling, how can they expect her return from a war that took place years ago? How can that be?
I choose to reserve my comments on the old recorded discs since I don't have wider knowledge on music creation.
I honestly wish you clear things up as your story has rendered me absolutely confused.
Respectfully,
PB!

Zeromaru- You must have been either extremely close to the stage or on her lap to have "smelt her perfume and felt the warmth of her breath".

I'm going to sit on the fence with the others on this one.

Zeromaru,

If in fact the singer Ms. Bessie was appearing on stage, while the band played, maybe she misses singing and the way it felt to perform on stage with her fiance.

A lot of the time, spirit will remain at a location where they were emotionally attached. It could just be residual, but the fact that she blew kisses to you, as you and your mother were leaving says otherwise.

Do you plan on going back to the cafe and maybe checking it out? I hope you do I would love to hear an update on this!

Thanks for sharing really enjoyed this.

rook and lady-glow - since my first name begins with "M", I am frequently called Ms. Marjie, usually by men older than me LOL

lady-glow,

A wee bit off topic here.

In the southern US it is an old custom to address elderly folks (mostly women) with an 'honorific' so Ms. Bessie or Mr. Edward is a compliment towards 'age and wisdom' and is used 'in lew' of the more formal Mr/Ms (last name).

I have worked with elderly individuals (60+ year olds) that have called me Mr. Garret and I returned the favor by calling them Mr. Frank, or Ms. Elisabeth, heck I currently work with a lady who everyone calls Ms. Kim and Kimberly is her first name.

Respectfully,

Rook

Hi Zeromaru:

I'm curious about the following statement in your profile:
"...Most of my stories as I expect would be very unclear, half due to my language problem, so please feel free to ask me any questions..."
For some reason I'd assumed that your first language wasn't English but this story suggests that you spent your childhood -or part of it- in the UK.
Why would you have any problems with the English language? 😕

I can't help to compare the jazz band in that café to an 'inverted' karaoke in which the music had to follow the singer.

Ms Bessie is... Such a common cows name.😐

Thanks for sharing.

Oh, and one other question I have that you could help me with: you wrote "... As time passes, the band members were old and I could see some grey hair in some of the member's hair, I never felt that Ms. Bessie grew any older from the day I see her in that café..."

Holy Cow ZeroMaru - just how many years did you visit this jazz cafe' so that you actually watched the band members aging before your very eyes!?😕

Hi ZeroMaru

Thanks for sharing this one. To answer your question whether you communicated with the spirit of Ms Bessie? I would have to say, with all due respect, no I personally don't think you did. And here's why:

As a musician, I find it very odd indeed (in fact in all my years of playing, and going to live music, and knowing lots of musicians) that a group of musicians would (or even could) play along to an old tape recording of a woman singing. How loud was the tape recorder playing? It would sound very odd / strange...

I would imagine any audience would either prefer no singer and a good jazz band, or an actual singer copying that woman's songs / voice.

The part where you wrote: "... A wind blew the backstage cover, and I saw was an old tape recorder, play button being pressed..." just seemed too convenient and what kind of massive gusts of wind do you get in cafe's?

You say the owner found "recorder discs" - are you able to expand on what they were exactly?

I think you probably had a very over-active and vivid imagination as a child and may have possibly "dreamed up" Ms Bessie?

If you could provide details of the cafe' / bar then that would help verify the details of the story.

In all honesty, I'll have to sit on the fence on this one. It's an interesting read but in my gut it just feels like a bit of a "made-for-tv" short film 🤔

No disrespect intended! Just being honest.

Regards

Mack

Zeromaru,

As I type this I'm all too aware of what it's like to have a mother in crazy denial. Indeed, if you knew my current 'right now' circumstances you'd probably implode. Apologies in advance if I'm taking out my bs on your story. But it occurred to me your mother might be very good at shutting out all possible threats to her. This includes women whom you, even as an innocent youngster, were showing an interest in. I know it sounds crazy but some people really do deny the existence of the totally obvious. It's possible the woman was no longer at the cafe because she'd moved on, changed jobs, etc.

I'm curious to know why this happened in the UK.

Also, according to web searches, 'Ms Bessie' appears to be a standard English essay or popular creative writing exercise.

As always, thanks for sharing.
