Val and Melda, just a suggestion here, as I'm taken aback as to how similar both encounters are, could there be some kind of entity who protects over good people in need? Actually that's a dumb question, I'm sure there's loads. I'm thinking in terms of how little we know about other entities, gods and the like. I don't know, but that's very striking how similar these encounters are. It really makes me wonder about other entities, or even religious saints.

Melda,
I have read and reread this particular account of yours perhaps a dozen times. It really reminds me of something my Mom once related to me. I'll be honest, what really triggered it for me was your use of the term 'baby legs', because when describing the child she saw, she used the same term, and the description was pretty much the same, as far as my memory allows. She never mentioned a dog though there are other similarities. You mention your husband being gone and the crime rate. This happened when my father was absent and crime was high in the area. Coincidence? I don't know, but it does make me go hmmm. A large difference might be whereas you were alone, alone, my mom had 3 young boys at home. Which at the time made her more fearful over their safety should trouble come our way.
Anyway, my mother's belief was she saw the Infant of Prague (Baby Jesus) as "he was too beautiful and radiated such love and comfort, He could not have been a normal child." She also admitted to an overwhelming 'wanting' for Him to stay with her. I'm not saying that's who the child is, or what you saw, or putting forth any religious explanation;but for her that's how she perceived it.
Just thought I'd share that with you.

BeagleMom - Sorry, I forgot to mention something! You and I seem to be of the same generation. I really had to laugh about the rollers and plastic cap. I cannot even begin to imagine how you slept like that, although I know many women did. After I had outgrown the stage of long straight hair... I kid you not I used to iron it if it had the slightest kink... I had a haircut and tried the rollers for a while. Never could sleep with them. I tried a few times but ended up ripping them out of my hair after half an hour. I used to walk around with them in my hair on Saturday afternoons (obviously only at home LOL). I then progressed to the "electric curlers" stage but gave up on that too. Me, definitely not the rollers/curlers type 😆
Off topic I know, but I just had to share that with you!

Beaglemom - Thanks for commenting. I'm so pleased that you understand the "baby legs"! Yes and the toes and feet 😊 Those first two years or so are very special - not that the rest of the years are not, my two sons and my daughter will always be my babies. I have five and three-quarter grandchildren now, so am looking forward to baby legs again when my daughter's daughter is born in April.
Thanks for passing on your hunch. You could very well be correct but when this took place it did not feel as though this little boy was a blood relative. He seemed so "other worldly" in a totally different sense. I can't quite put it into words.
I also thank you for adding my story to your favourites!

Melda,
What a wonderfully written account! You are now among my Favorites ❤! I must say, your vision of the dog is what captured my imagination, but the child and his "Baby Legs" was what captured my heart! Yes, I know what baby legs are! Those chubby little sweet legs that end in kissable toes! I had to smile.
The whole time I was reading this, I was thinking of a certainty of love and comfort that I get when I think of friends and relatives whom have passed over. It is my feeling that either you are related to this child, or will be in the future. I have no great psychic talent, it is merely a hunch! I'm big on hunches!
I also know what it is to "guard" yourself with the TV, lights on. In my case, I used to wash and set my hair in rollers and put the big plastic bonnet of a portable hair dyer on my head and turn it on! This was in addition to the tv and lights, in order to make sure I didn't hear sounds that would make my imagination run wild! It was how I used to sleep when my husband worked nights when we were newlyweds.
Thank you for a great read!
❤

Tweed - Thanks so much for replying.
Unfortunately the crime rate has reached alarming proportions in the good old SA. I myself have been a victim of crime on a few occasions including having my car hijacked a few months back. South Africa is such a beautiful country, rich with culture and tradition. Anyway I won't get bogged down on that subject!
My grandmother also used to say "fear the living not the dead". How true! I have another story to share where this really hits home.
You could be quite correct in suggesting that this experience relates to me, my personality and possibly life events happening at the time.
Also, thanks for going into a little more detail re the inner child. I have never actually reflected on that in any depth but it certainly bears thinking about. In fact, you could be more right thank you know.

Seraphina - Thank you for your comment and compliment!
You are correct, the experience was intense and personal and add "emotional" to that. This was not just any little boy. I felt so much love towards him, I didn't want to let him go. This child looked so nurtured and happy and emanated such a positive, loving aura, I don't believe he is simply wandering this earth.

Miracles - Thank you for your comment and opinion. The boy and the dog have never been in my house since and I do not believe that they belong to the land surrounding my house. No expert here, simply that I don't doubt that I would have sensed them if they were around. Not so much the dog, in fact I'm not sure why he was there - he just seemed to be enjoying the TV when I spotted him. (The dog might have been a "she" but at the time I just felt that it was a "he"!)
Perhaps the child was a relative - I honestly don't know. As long as he knew how he touched my soul!

Wish-Not - Thanks so much for your comment. Yes I was definitely the sole object of this little boy's attention, which is probably why he appeared again for a few seconds when I asked him to. The dog simply seemed to be "along for the ride" so to speak.
Thank you for adding my story to your favourites! I am honoured 😁

Melda, I'm sorry your crime is such as it is where you are. My knowledge of the crime rate of South Africa comes only from television. But when I read your comment I could picture myself doing the same things with TV and lights if I found myself in the same position. Physical humans are far more dangerous than any ghosts, you might have read that said on here a few times. 😊
The inner child is just one part of a bigger concept that our personalities are multifaceted. For example I found a slater bug marching along our kitchen floor before. So I got it on my finger and took it to show my husband. Exactly what I would've done as a child lol, except replace husband with parents. You would do things as an adult that you did as a child too. I guess the trick is to identify these parts of our self and nurture them. As adults our more serious parts are encouraged while our vulnerable parts are not. The inner child is one such vulnerable part. Likewise if a part of us is corrupted it needs to be healed.
I don't know if this concept relates directly to the boy and the dog but my feeling was your reaction to them was in some way connected to your own personality.
By the way, glad you enjoy reading my experiences, I'm really enjoying yours too. 😊

Beautifully written, Melda! The little boy doesn't seem like someone simply "left over" from an earlier time, with no connection to you. The experience was just so intense and personal.

Melda - what a truly beautiful story, thank you for sharing this ❤ Shew, I have too many thoughts running through my head right now that I can't sort them into one coherent comment LOL I do, however, agree with Manafon that maybe the child was a relative.
The fact that he came back for a split second when you asked him to makes my heart feel good 😊
I'm assuming you've had no reason to think he may still be hanging around? I'm not sure where, if anywhere, I am going with that question. Maybe trying to ascertain if he/they is/are there because of the house/land or because of you.
Whatever the reason they showed themselves to you, I think it was to help you as Tweed pointed out.

Melda- Wow! That was incredible! What a moment that must have been. I could actually see the whole thing play out. Very well written.
When the child reappeared, would you say you were his attention. Was he interacting with your request? That would have been "mind blowing"!
Great account Melda. Definitely going to my favorites!

Hi Tweed
Thanks for your very welcome comment. This is what I love about this site and why I have been reading it for a number of years. Posters have so many differing, yet valid, opinions.
Unfortunately I would not even know how to begin getting in touch with my inner child. It has never even occurred to me. Any advice on that?
To be absolutely frank, I don't sleep with TVs and lights on because of ghosts but because of humans. I know crime is rife globally but South Africa is a different kind of scary. You literally have to imprison yourself in your own home. I won't even walk down to the closest mini-market, which is approximately 5 minutes walk from my house. And yes, I live in a very good area.
Yes my life changed drastically after my children were born. This goes hand in hand with being a parent - no getting away from it!
The term "baby legs" is not something that is commonly used, as far as I am aware. It was simply something that I noticed, when the chubby little legs became longer and took a different shape. So basically it's a description I use. 😆 I'd love to know whether perchance other people use the same term!
Tweed I have read all your stories and loved them, so that makes you one of my favourite posters as well!

Hi Melda,
Perhaps the reason this moved you was not one thing but a lot of little things. Like accomplishment, sleeping with the TV and lights on and then waking up to a ghost encounter and *not* being afraid. A sense of overcoming a fear. Also confirmation, in that this paranormal encounter represented some kind of proof to you, I'm only speculating here! Also might there have been something from your own childhood, at that age, which has 'haunted' you, a sense of overcoming adversity might be part of it. Perhaps you could do with getting in touch with your inner child?
We're a childless couple by choice. I've noticed with most friends who are parents that they have children, largely, to get in touch with that part of themselves. But then lose touch with their inner child easily with the demands of parenthood. I must confess I have no clue what baby legs are but perhaps you missing that part of your childrens' development, is actually you missing a part of yourself, metaphorically. I hope that makes sense.
Thanks for sharing, this was really cool. 😊

Melda--I loved this account. Beautifully told. I am presently working and can only briefly comment but it came to my mind that the little boy could have been a relative. A representation of your father, grandfather (or what have you) as they were as a child. Perhaps they appeared the way they did with their pet to not alarm you, as an adult figure could have. It could also explain the intense feeling of love you sensed from the little ghost and his pup.
Fantastic account! Thanks for sharing.
