Hello FRAWIN. You know, I think what Tonith said has some 'meat' to it. It does sound like a residual haunting. You said you heard a radio at first. Sounded like it was on an off station turned up full blast. Almost like stepping into another time. It really does make since that someone, in the past, was being 'roughed up' with the wailing, crying and then laughter. Like wailing and crying from the victim and laughter from the evil vilains. It makes since to me. You'll still never know for sure but that was a good call Tonith. It gives us something to really think about. 😊~Shelby ❤

I had a similar experience at our Mom and Pop service station a few years back that started out in the cooler. It was not as vocal or loud, (can you imagine a five foot even, one hundred and five pound female carrying a shotgun at the hip in a classy bright red smock?) but enough that when I finished my shift and headed home, I was moving rather quickly.
I found out a few years later, that approximately fifty years before, a person was found in the small field out behind the store in a rather bad way. That person ended up passing on while in the care of the local doctor who actually rode up in a carriage! (That did explain the sound of hoofs hitting the gravel)
You know, it sounds to me to be a residual haunting of someone getting quite a work over. I wonder why the man that was getting the stuff knocked out of himself was not there? I can only pray that he has made it to The Other Side and is not having to "live" through this repeatedly until the film has run it's course.

Shelby, "The Ghost and Mr. Chicken" has always been a favorite of mine, too. I thought it was just as funny the other night while I was watching it with the children. 😉

You know Tonith, you could be right. I have always been under the impression that they were talking about me but it could have been residual and they were talking about someone else. It is worth pondering. It could be the land and not the building. Unfortunately we did have the Klan in this area in years past and we may never know what went on because they took their secrets to the grave with them. Take Care.

You are one brave dude. My first thought would have been the same as yours, someone hiding in the store or someone messing with you for whatever reason. I don't know if that was just a residual haunting and you were hearing things said long ago or you were having a real haunting with them knowing you were there. Maybe the voices you heard were residual and meant for the person who was crying and wailing. Don't know about mobsters in the deep South but they certainly had the Klu Klux Klan which did horrendous things to blacks. Would be interesting to find out the history of the building.

Hi FRAWIN. I loved Don Knotts. I always watched Three's Company, The Andy Griffin Show. Remember, "The Ghost and Don Knotts"? Or was it "The Ghost and Mr. Chicken"? I can't hardly remember. I remember that it was funny when I was little. I can just picture it know, you lurking, scared around the store with a gun just a shak'in in yer hands! HILARIOUS! 😆

Hello Shebly, Kim and Ohio. I tend to agree with you Ohio, it does sound like something out of a gangster movie. As far as what happened there I couldn`t really say. There has been a store there for at least fourty-five years(that I can attest to), probably a whole lot longer. As far as I know we aren`t missing any locals 😆.
Well Kim I don`t know about me be brave or not, I guess if anyone saw me I would have reminded them of Don Knotts waving that 357 around. All I can say is that my fear of ridicule overcame my fear of the unknown. How would it have looked for a forty-something year old man to be chased out by a ghost? I no longer work at that store but from what I hear it is pretty quite.
Hey Shelby, I have thought about this experience over the years and have decided that they were prankster type ghosts, trying to scare the new guy. I know that I had been there about 2 years but I was considered "the rookie" seeing how the meatcutter had been there for about 18 years and the boss had the store since `75.As far as the history goes there`s been a store there, I know for 45 years or more. The only person that I know for sure that has died on the property was a great aunt of mine that died of starvation during the depression. The boss never would tell me what he heard there, just that it wasn`t as severe as mine. I may write a part 2 but it won`t be as good as part 1.Sequels seldom are 😊,unless they are about the Cambridge house. Take care.

sounds like the classic gangster string-em-up-in-the-meat-locker-torture-scenario to me. I wonder what went on in there in the past. I wonder if the owner knows? Wow, I'd love to see more about that store...

I can certainly empathize when there are occurances at work, how terribly unnerving! When the other manager stated he had heard sounds and voices as well, did he (or anyone) else indicate any type of history related to the store? Or the land? Just curious as from the sounds of your story, 'it' or 'they' sound very territorial. It also sounds like the are all talk, meaning all noise. This is meant to scare you. I must say also, it took an extreme amount of courage for you to face through the fear that first night and I am certain you will be able to do so again. Hopefully, if this does occur again, you will be able to get another person there with you to witness these occurances.

Beyond that, say a prayer for them to cross over, if they are feeling this territorial over the store, I am sure that this is why they have yet to cross over.

Hello my fellow musketeer! =) That sounds like a scary situation and an interesting at that! My favorite part was when you could her a man and woman's voice talking asking if you had had enough! What was the Mom and Pop grocery store before it was a grocery store? Did you ever find out the history of the store or property?
