The Lady By The Well

A few years back when I was around 9 years old or so, I had this cousin who heavily battled with drug abuse. He was a really great guy and everybody in the family loved him and he just got into the wrong crowd when he was in college. My cousin was sent to the Welikanda Military Rehabilitation (Kanda Kadu) center for about 1.5 years or 2 (I don't really remember it was awhile ago).

When my cousin got back, our family went over to their place and I had a little small talk. I grew up with this cousin my whole childhood and he treated me like an uncle would, spoiling me on every birthday with his pocket money and buying me food every time he came over after high school. He was a really good influence on me and came to our place after school when I was in nursery and taught me the alphabet and how to write words including my name as well.

Back to what I was talking about, My cousin randomly brought up how during the Sri Lankan civil war, Tamil prisoners as well as LTTE cadres were subjected to torture and extrajudicial killings in their facilities. However, these are just claims haven't been officially acknowledged by the Sri Lankan Government, but claims like these don't just pop out of the thin air and there has to be something behind this.

My cousin said every time they had to go to the washroom after mid-night, they never went alone. Always 2 guys went with each other because there was a ghost by a well. My cousin said when he went to the washroom he saw a lady sitting by the well, smiling at them. Her face was completely burnt on one side and she was combing her hair to that side to cover the burn and keep her beauty. She called them over while combing her hair, repeatedly telling them to get over to where she was, no matter how many times they said no, she kept on calling them with a smile on her face. Both my cousin and the person he was with at the time fully saw what was happening, visually and audibly. It is also well known among those who are at Kanda Kadu that this lady as well as other Tamil spirits who were subjected to torture roam around after mid-night in the premises and they just had to yell and curse at them to leave them alone and that was just it.

If anyone who is reading this have heard of something similar before or knows about this, please feel free to comment as I'm not sure and quite certain about this either since I was really young when I heard it. But, everything I said in this post were accurate to what my cousin told me, I remember every single word so well as I was transfixed on what he was saying. Please feel free to let me know if you guys know anything about this🙏

Hi Samuel.

Welcome to YGS.

This sure is an interesting story. Given the history of the place it is not a surprise if there are spirits haunting the location. Sadly, any conflict involving arms and the loss of life is bound to leave an imprint of negative energy that can last for years.

I know this is your cousin's experience but, do you know if the lady was seen every single night?

Something that I find interesting and similar to what I was told as a kid growing up in Mexico is that cursing and swearing will make ghosts go away. Now I wonder if such thing is necessary, perhaps some spirits only need to be told that they can go to a better place instead of staying trapped under the painful circumstances of their death.

Thanks for sharing.
