The Man In The Rocking Chair

I am new to this website, but I am not new to the paranormal, and I've been interested in this subject since I was a really little kid. I've had few experiences but this was my first encounter with the paranormal.

This was about nine or ten years ago, I think I was around six or seven. I was sitting in my living room, drinking some Kool-Aid next to this really old rocking chair that my mom had that was handed down many generations. I sat down on the floor, right next to the rocking chair, just relaxing and waiting for one of my friends to come over. My mom was in the backyard with my little sister, who was maybe three or four at the time. I had a really old wooden television set in my living room which was facing the old rocking chair. I was just sitting there, looking out my window, when I happened to see something out of the corner of my eye. I looked into the televison and saw a man sitting next to me in the old rocking chair. I blinked and the man was vanished.

The man looked a lot like my dad, too. My dad is not dead or anything, so that was really weird to me. I was so frightened by the man I ran out of the room screaming and into the backyard. When I told my mom, she said I was watching too much Scooby-Doo, But I know what I saw was real and not a dream or anything. This event has stuck out in my mind ever since.

Welcome to your ghost stories! I find your experience a bit weird but I understand. Try to find a more logical explanation. Your mum was absolutely no help at all. Ghosts are there and I can sense it. None in my house but plenty at relatives houses. 😊 😊 😊

Hi Gerglicious. You may have seen a man in a rocking chair but another explanation could be pareidolia. I'm not saying you didn't see a man in a rocking chair, just merely giving you something to think about. I did enjoy your story and thank you for sharing it with us. Take Care.

Well, I had the same experience then when I was 5 years old. My grandfather just died and after three days of his burial my two cousins and I saw him in his favorite chair.

I believe old/antique object attracts spirit energy. The person you saw might be a dead relative who owned that rocking chair before and just made a visit. 😊

Hello, Gerglicious, and welcome. I hope you enjoy your stay.
I wonder, do you REMEMBER this being resembling your Dad, or do you remember during the sighting thinking he looked like him? I know that sounds a bit bumbled, but what I am wondering is if in your remembrance of the occurrence, the being took on the appearance of him.
In that the rocker came from your MOTHERS side of the family, it would be a bit odd for the being to resemble someone from your Dad's bloodline. UNLESS the being was NOT connected with the chair.
Perhaps who was visiting in your home was a relative of your Dad, and he was just enjoying your Mother's chair.
Thank you.

Hi Gerglicious, Welcome to your ghost stories, your story was interesting. It being that the rocking chair being passed down to your mom, It might have been one of your grandpas' or great grandpas, have you tried looking through any old family picture albums and see if you any of them look like your dad? I have experienced a lot of freaky stuff, but this sounds like to me that the person you seen in the rocking chair loved it so much and it is connected to the rocking chair. Again welcome to this website, and also thanks for sharing your story. 😊
