My wife and I and our 6 children (hers, mine, and ours) have been living in a Sacramento area home for two years this month.
The house was brand new and part of a new development. There was no history attached to the house. But, of course, there is always some sort of history attached to the LAND a house is built on.
Less than a year into living here, my wife and I began to see what looked like someone cocking their head around the corner of a neighboring room, looking in on us.
Of course, with 6 kids, we assumed they were playing another game of "I Spy" with us as their subjects. So I would call out to them, run out to the other room, etc.
And sure enough, there was NO ONE there. Soon it happened when the kids weren't even home, and we both were seeing the same thing. What looked like someone looking at us in the next room. And as always, when we turned to look, the head would straighten up and whatever it was would vanish into the other room. We would see this repeatedly.
Then sometime later (few months maybe?), I would turn the corner into a room and see what I can only describe as a black, shadowy figure that appeared to be crouching or crawling along the floor. It startled me, but didn't panic me. It would vanish just as soon as I would see it.
Always black looking, always shadowy, and always low to the ground in a crawling or crouching stance.
These forms didn't have the definite human shape that the STANDING ones had... But my guy reaction was "This is someone either crouching or under a black looking blanket, crawling around the floor of my home!"
Things got really strange for me when I was out with my 10-year-old daughter doing a few errands. ALL I asked her was if she had ever seen anything out of the corner of her eyes. That's ALL! No hints, no coaching, not even a mention of a SPECIFIC location where it happened.
To my amazement and horror, she said, "Well, I didn't want to tell you and Sarah (her stepmom), but sometimes I will enter a room and see what looks like a dark figure laying or crawling on the ground." OH MY! The few hairs I have left on my head STOOD ON END!
My young daughter--with NO KNOWLEDGE of my story WHATSOEVER--was describing the exact same observation!
Then my 9 year old son described walking into his brothers' room and seeing a BLUE BLANKET dark across the floor. Then it vanished. Sounds very similar, again, to the feeling I had that it was a black blanket with someone hiding under it.
My wife has seen the dark shadowy things in our master closet as well as other rooms in the house. My in-laws watched the kids for us at our home for a week when we took a cruise to Alaska in May.
She admitted that every time she did the dishes or was cleaning in the sink, she could see a figure, dark and shadowy, watching through a big plant we have on the kitchen counter. When she turned to look, it disappeared.
I have seen something behind our couch (family room connects to the kitchen) while doing the dishes. It was clear enough that I SWORE it was my 6-year-old playing with me. I looked and there was NO ONE.
In hindsight, we remember clearly when our baby was a few months old and would look up at corners of the family room and wave and say "HI!" to things that weren't there. At least, things WE couldn't see. No odd reactions from our dog or other pets.
We are actually having a paranormal team come to our home soon to check things out. They, as we, are intrigued by the fact that 3 adults and 2 children are witnessing what appears to be the same shadowy figure encounters all under the same roof. I can't wait to have them over and to see what they find.
We are not scared, really. But we are very, very intrigued. We want to know WHAT it is, WHY it is here, etc.
I have since become an addict of ghost-related books, blogs, websites, television shows, etc. This personal encounter is making me want to learn all I can about this otherworldly type stuff.
I would love to hear thoughts on this and if you have similar stories and encounters. I am amazed at how many people I know personally or work with, etc. Who say they see the same things. What the HECK are we seeing? Thanks for your time in reading this. I will post any updates as they come!
