I live in Oklahoma, and I know the old houses out in the middle of no-where are scary. My grandma owns one, and I still swear up and down that that place is haunted. 😆

What ti sounds like to me is a mixture of some sort of poltergeist and a residual haunting. The thing, who ever or whatever it was was obviously trying to get your attention. By acting out things that happened in the past, and playing tricks on your mind, such as the incident with the car, it's trying to get you to feed energy into thinking of it.

I like this story a lot, and you are a very good writer. I look forward to more of your stories in the future.

I love your stories, to read them actually makes people that they were in the story with you, I would be surprised too if the Mr. Burns didn't call about the rain, Then it could have been that person that you saw in the window.
Which I would have done what you did and I would have totally froze if I seen the car lights and nothing be there. Which my mom and I have experienced some weird stuff.
Thanks for the stories 😊

As far as the lights are concerned, I have NO idea what that was all about. JamesRobiscoe makes a good point... The first time I saw the lights I just assumed it was a car since it came down the road toward the bridge and what else was it supposed to be?
I am shy about this part of the story since it does seem very odd and I cannot phathom what it all means.

Robert never described the lady he saw on the staircase in detail and I never thought to ask.

The area is OLD as is the house and I am sure some crazy stuff happened around the there. The boots we heard? I just assumed they were from a living person at the time. Now I have to wonder if it weren't someone from long ago with a score to settle.

I am living very far from home right now, but if I can get a photo of the house, I will see if I can add it.

Again, thanks for all the comments and know that yep, this is a TRUE story... One I hope to never experience again.

Annie and Frawin,

Yes, I have a few stories on Castle of Spirits and on Shadowlands. I enjoy both those sites but am quickly becoming addicted to this one. I love the fact we can comment on stories here (both good and bad).

I have to agree with you all about the phone call. At the time I never thought about it since it sounded like Mr. Burns. Now when I think back, I get a weird feeling.
As for the dog, the strangest thing is that he didn't go crazy at all out there. He barked once in a while, but I do not recall hearing him flip out over anything.

Not_scared_anymore,

I appreciate your comments on my writing, but this is an actual event. If I were making it up, I would hope to have scarier stuff to toss in.
But I do understand your scepticism (I am that way myself when first reading something). I agree that true ghost sites should be TRUE... And that is what I offered here.
So yes, this is a true story and no, I am not taking a creative writing class and boning up on my skills.

Thanks for all the comments. I do have a few other stories I wish to submit, so will have to see if they are accepted.

Robert has let me in on to some of the history of the house, but from what I understand, there is even more that went on there than even he knew of.

As for me being brave, I must let you all know I was scared out of my wits. I was not really brave at all.

Hands down, one of the best written stories I've ever read on this site. Kept me on the edge of my seat. Had all the elements of a good ghost story. And, as Frawin said, it sounded familiar to me, also. Hmm. Thanks for sharing. Hope to hear more.

Hey, thank you for submitting your story. Thankfully I am just back from apartment sitting. I think if I had read your story before hand I would have declined the invitation in a hurry! Lol. The story you told, beautifully, I might add is very intriguing and thought provoking. I think after encountering the person at the bedroom window on your first day yet still going on to stay alone in the house you are a very brave man.
I look forward to reading your future entries, Sarah.

Wow. I love your story. You are a Very good descriptive writer. I felt like I was there, but I'm sure your actual experience was very frightening. That all sounds very scary. I have been in situations such as this, but I was never alone for that long. This is a great story and it is definitely one of my favorites. ❤ Jasmin

I believe you with all my heart. I had all those feelings at my Grandma's house that is in Pentwater Michigan. She had an old barn and a few animals, the place was located on Indian burial grounds plus many people died on the property. I even had the pleasur of staying there alone and had a lot of experiances. I hope you write more.

im a bit sceptical, your a good writer. I could imagine every scene as you described it. Lay out of the house ect.
It was a creepy story one of the best I have read here... But, are you sure this is the actual recalling of an event or just you trying out your creative writing skills on a eager audience.
Not every story on this site is real people, remember THAT 🤔
Although its fun to read, this site should be for people who have real hauntings, and need actual help with them.

You have more courage than I do, that's without a doubt. Talk about a brass set with or without a rifle. Sounds like this place is more than haunted, the whole area seems infested. Even if you chalked most of it up to imagination or nerves when you were alone that does not account for what happened when you and Robert were together. By this time you had a witness and activity inceased so it wasn't imagination. The phone call incident sent chills through me because that has to be the hardest thing to explain. Mr. Burns would have no reason to lie to you about such a thing. Do you realize you may have had a conversation with a resident ghost? I know phone calls can be tricky during storms but whole conversations with someone whose voice you recognize only to find out they never called you? Too freaky to say the least. One thing I have to ask is, did the dog have any reaction to all the events that happened while you were there? Outside dogs usually are big time barkers when they hear the slightest thing. I don't know what you do for a living but you should be a writer. Great story and very well told. Would love to hear more from you and your experiences with the paranormal.

Hello troyarn. Thank you for a very well written and interesting story. I really enjoyed it. I noticed as I was reading it that it sounded familiar to me, have you by chance published this story on another website?

Hey Troyan! This was an extremely well written story! I really enjoyed reading it.

You must have been scared a lot while you were living there! I know I would have been! It was weird to know that Mr. Burns had not even called you! Maybe the ghost wanted to warn you that he was coming that night or to tell you to go outside so you could see the lights! If you had these type of experiences while you were living there for only about 1 week or so, think how many experiences Robert and his family must have had! Did you ask Robert if anything else had happened besides the "usual" stuff? I suggest that both you and Robert go and find out the entire history about the house because I have to say one thing,... That house is definatley holding something back! I am desperately looking forward to your stories! Please write more stories as soon as possible! Thanks and take care!

Man, you really know how to tell a story. Sounds like the house is, as ghost hunters like to say, "infested..." Lotta good rifles would be. A honking car sounds definitely like a car, but were the first lights on the bridge from a car or did you only deduce it was a vehicle (as in, what else could it be)? Boots could be modern or soldier boots from Fort Kearney days. Did Robert decrscribe the clothes on the woman he saw on the spiral staircase? Every scrap of what was heard and seen (or not actually seen) is a clue. I'm sure interested in any other experiences you've had; you sure know how to paint scenes and tell a story. Thanks for a good tour around that ranch.

Hi troyarn. That was quite an experience you had at the ranch. There must be a tremendous amount of history linked with the land and house. Robert had some insights about his own family's history in the house but just imagine the events prior to his knowledge, both in the house and on the land.Wow.I'm not sure if you were brave or crazy going out to the bridge like that, time after time! And at night! Thanks so much for sharing your story. I really enjoyed it. You told it really well and it was so well written. If you've had other experiences like this in your life it would be a pleasure to read about them.

Scary story... Makes me imagine the whole scene... I don't know how I will react if I am on your shoes-i might leave the house early as expected or tried to brush that "feeling" away by doing some kind of distraction, like: watching movies while the radio is on and most probably leave the lights on until the sun shines on the ranch! Hahahah! But it's a good thing that you faced your fears and shows courage to try to speak to "Whoever" is letting his/her presence known. Remember, as long as you show fear-the more the presence get stronger.
Keep us posted and updated.
God bless.

P.S.
I hope the submit page will be up soon... 😭
