Hi whitebuffalo. That is such a sad story. I hope his figure on the lake shore was residual. Once his father's body was recovered I'd like to think they found each other and are both resting peacefully, together again. Thanks for sharing your experience on Big Turtle Island. I truly enjoyed it.

Hello Autumn. I will have to say that Somewhere in Time is one of my favorites too, although I didn't "discover" it until years after it was released- never have been a fan of "movie houses", too many durn people in one location for my taste.
It is saddening to think a small child is stuck there unable to cross over but I think he is merely a residual, an emotion froze in time (no pun intended). I feel that if he were an intelligent haunt or a spirit, when you attempted communication with him he would have responded to you. One can only speculate what went through the boy's mind before he passed on. Anyway you look at it, it is heartbreaking and all we can do is offer up prayers that he is at rest.
Thank you for sharing this with us and take care my friend.

Ohhhh,Seems like that boy was sitting at the beach probably waiting for his dad to show up, and couldn't figure out why his dad wasn't with him. Great story and thanks for sharing it with us. 😊 ❤

Thanks, whitebuffalo, for sharing your encounter on Mitchimakinak Island and your intimate bond to that place. It is thrilling to hear that others feel the same way as I do about "Somewhere in Time." Just this weekend I tried to persuade a friend that it needs to go on the must-see list. Unfortunately, I have not had the opportunity to visit either the Hotel Del Coronado or the Grand Hotel. Eight years ago I visited the archaeological excavations at Fort Michilimackinac, but our schedule required us to keep heading north, so my excursion to the Grand Hotel will have to wait. How I wanted to run to the ferry and bound off for a night at the hotel. Having stood on the wind-swept banks of Fort Michilimakinac and gazed out over that famous bridge straddling the storied straits, I have not doubt this place and the Island are sacred.

In the MOVIE, the hotel used WAS the Grand.
In the novel, Richard travels from 1971 to 1896 rather than 1980 to 1912, and the setting is the Hotel Del Coronado rather than the Grand Hotel.
My lovely editor pointed out the error of my printing, and to her I will be eternally grateful.
I apologize for misrepresenting the movie, as well as the novel. Please note that on the story of the Hotel Del Coronado, you will see an exact replica of this correction.
Thank you all for understanding.
