You seem to forget I read most of the comments... The 'M.I.K.P' was invented as result of the you and redphx having exhausted your ability to vote for each other 😆...I'm jus' sayin', the more we b!tch, the worse it gets...I've been under "karma attack" several times in the past and I have absolutely no idea why or who or where it came from, nor do I give a crap... And I've been given points for non-sensical sh!t...So, we're all guilty...

I know I still the new pardner 'round these parts, but I have been victim of that blasted karma fairy myself. I respect each and every belief I come in contact with, whether I believe that way or not. I was absolutely irritated to see post after post praising God and every other Diety known to exist, but the minute I posted my APOLOGY for a misunderstanding and WHY I misunderstood, I received 7 negatives.
Really? I simply apologized and offered an explanation for why I misunderstood. So I deserve negative votes because I was being honest, what kind of junk is that? I think people get great joy out of knowing that they can affect others in some small way. Perhaps they are bored, need to feel a part of something bigger, or maybe they are just plain ignorant. I for one prefer the feedback I get directly from people, and if I feel that they have helped me understand this great big ole world a little bit better, then my point goes for them. JMTC

That's true granny, but at those times I don't give points. The "Mythical Invisible Karma Point" is actually better in those situations as it doesn't count for or against, and can't be taken away as easily. But if you have ever noticed the conversations that take place overnight when there is barely a soul around, rarely include karma points. I have had extended comment threads that have no one giving or receiving a point for each other. Anything added after that is over has been added by others that came along later and that can't be helped.
Sure, I've been guilty of it in the past, but certainly not to the extent of ridiculousness.
Here's the thing, most people figure out what's up within their first week or so of posting comments. Just because they don't say much, doesn't mean they are ignorant. It simply means they are like most of the other people here, they don't care about those points either. Which is really all this is about anyway. Like I said, it's not like you win anything for it, and you can't cash them in when you're done.
Jav
They do seem to carry a big price for some though.

Jave: I agree that the point system has been abused, but really?...You've taken part in the "giggle-fests" yourself, so to add that in your rant is, well, sorry to say hypocritical... As recent as the invention of the "mystical invisible karma point BAMM"...I just don't understand how you could condone the practice for yourself and condemn others for doing so...
There was a karma point thief here yesterday and I did what I could to counter those negative points where I could... Maybe I should've let them stand to avoid abusing the system though... I just don't like to see negative points given to people for no reason...

J/S,
I remember that... Some interesting talks there.
Bbrave,
I think part of what has happened with some of your comments is not so much the point you were trying to make, but how you worded the original statement as you attempted to make your point that caused people to give you the 'down votes'...
Having said that however it seems you've been taking a bit more time to construct your replies, and there has been less misunderstandings.
Respectfully,
Rook

It's as Jav has said Rook. You are likely one of the people I respect most on this site. I know my actions may not reflect that but I do respect you

You are right I have nothing but negative karma. Why I haven't a clue but do not care either. I laughed when I found out my karma is negative. It's sad that people need to do such things. But what are you going to do you know other than hope these people grow up

Rook: You too... I remember when I made that comment about Jesus going to hell for 3 days. You could have down voted me, and be disgusted with every post I make after that, but you asked me why I thought that. We even discussed it for a couple days. I respect that... I love when people keep it real.

Oh no, you're not an a$$ at all. Of course, I'm not sure if you want my input on the matter. But seeing as I am usually the target for it, and yes I did receive a visit myself today, I do feel I have some observations to offer, based on my own experience in the matter I recall about a year ago, when the karma monster was really on a tear, I had over half of my comments on my own threads attacked to the point of them being voted out of existence. Even on the story I wrote about the night my little sister passed away. There is no honor when a person resorts to that. Do you know what I was told about it, without even asking, mind you? "Sometimes people just don't like to see you comment at all Jav, nothing can be done about that." Only to find out that person was a part of the whole negative karma attack to begin with. In my opinion, any system that has the points attached to an individual, instead of just the comment, does so as a means of generating controversy and ill will. This system has been sorely abused, reworked, and the abusers are still hard at work out there. It fosters an atmosphere that pits people against one another. And those that abuse it do so out of malice and fear. They can take my karma points away if they want, I won't miss them a bit. When a person like you gets a negative vote, it just means someone out there is jealous of the respect you receive from the membership at large. There is only dishonor in that vote. And the person doing it is obviously disturbed.
Then there is the reverse done between parties that need to have a high total to feel good about themselves. These are the ones that do nothing but up vote each other all day on comments that have nothing to do with the story. Your basic giggle-fest with each party frantically voting the others up for no reason at all. This is even more abusive, as it leads to false impressions. But as I said before, those people cannot survive without it. It is like a security blanket to them.
I happen to think that when these good people come here and offer their help and advice to those in need, it is only out of pettiness that others will vote them down. And it's a good bet that the ones who abuse the down voting option, abuse the opposite as well.
Sorry for taking up so much of your thread rook. But you did pose a question. Maybe it was meant rhetorically,. But as one who has probably received the most abuse from this system, I feel supremely qualified to comment on it.
Jav
It's not like they accumulate and you can cash them in someday. 😊

I see the negative KARMA FAIRY is busy at it again... I post a question about why I may have seen this shape formed out mist, on my own experience I may add, and I get a negative one?
I really could care less about the 'Karma' but this seems like an 'abuse' of the system... Or am I just that much of an A$$ for asking the question that I did?

Bbrave,
I'm not saying the dust particles / water vapor 'form' the spirit 'itself', I'm asking is the 'manifestation' we see either of these 'elements' defining the shape of the 'Intelligent Energy' that is a spirit, as it effects the environment around it?

Disregard my last comment seems I misread your question. Honestly I can't say but think it's a bit more complex than that. As spirits by their actions show intelligence which makes me doubt it could be dust particles combining to form a spirit.
I'd say they are a type of living energy. Electromagnetic in nature since they have been known to effect electronics.
But as I said before I honestly can not say. Before I could say I would need to earn a phd in quantum physics

Your welcome and yes it can the decrease or increase in temperature depending on the circumstances. Causes drastic temperature differences in the immediate area of the manifestation and non immediate but surrounding areas.
In my experience it was only the living room which had grown cold since that was where the spirit decided to manifest. The rest of the house was very comfortable

Cool! I didn't think to google map it, but now that you have suggested it, I think I will
I honestly think I would have been terrified but fascinated. I haven't been able to post anything on this site yet, but once I do, if you read them, you'll probably see how I freak out at the slightest hint of supernatural... Things, although I'm pretty sure there's a ghost in my house and I'm used to him now, I remember being totally terrified when I first saw him

demonkitty,
I can honestly say no, I was not sacred at all. I was completely and utterly fascinated and wished I had more time, but I had to report to Norfolk, VA by a certain time and couldn't waste any of my travel time. Afterwards things got so durn busy I never had a chance to get out there again.
It's not hard to find... From Newport RI drive West on Rt 138. Once you pass the main campus for URI you are getting close, look for a dirt road on the right hand side of the road. 138 actually curves just a bit and the dirt road is directly off of the curve. This road is just after the Athletic Fields and an Apartment Complex called Fernwood Apartments. There are two historic Cemeteries a very small one on the right hand side and a slightly larger one on the left. This road reconnects to Rt 138 after making a left hand 'turn'.
(Google Maps 'URI, Campus Avenue, Kingston, RI' zoom in a bit and then follow Rt 138 to the West, you soon see the dirt road I'm talking about.)

Rook

Bbrave,
Thanks. I saw this. I do want to ask something here on this experience of mine...
In this experience what I saw was, or appeared to be created from mist/fog...Which is pretty cool in and of itself, but here is the question...
General consensus seems to be that Spirits are comprised of some form of Electromagnetic Energy. When they choose to 'draw' energy from the environment in an attempt to manifest we tend to feel cold spots, or is some reports a warm (hot) spot. So is a manifestation comprised of a static charge attracting dust and other small particles that take the shape of 'the spirit' and/or could the temperature difference cause water vapor (condensation/dew point) to form (a mist) and take of the shape of the spirit? I hope that makes sense...
Things that make you go Hummmm...

Another story? Humm... Maybe towards the end of the month? It won't be a 'ghost' story per se, just one of pure terror, for me! 😉

Fergie,
It looked like a 'period' horse drawn hearse from New England. Had I not been seeing it's shape made of fog it wood have been black lacquered wood... With a 'torch/lamp' holder on each corner. Bench style seat across the front... Driver wore a top hat and a 'period' style cloak over his shoulders...
I'll see if I can find a picture of one and have it attached to this experience.
Thanks for reading and commenting.

Was the hearse one of those glass ones?
I remember seeing one of those from my early childhood, back in the late 40,s.

Truth,
No typo... I live in Austin Texas. This experience happened while I was traveling from my ship... Stationed in Newport, RI. To attend a school in Norfolk, Va. After my 'tour of duty' was done aboard that ship. My next duty station was a school in Pensacola, Fl. Then Back to a ship in Newport, RI. From there I went to Norfolk, VA. Where I bounced from my 'shore command' to a ship based in Norfolk... Back to a shore command/school and then another ship, All in Norfolk. It wasn't until 2003 that I left the Norfolk AREA... One again to be stationed in Newport, RI. I remained at the Naval War College until I retired in 2006. I hope that clears things up.

It's too bad you're not in the Norfolk area anymore. I'd love to get together, chat, and go ghost hunting with you. How's Rhode Island? I honestly don't know much about the state. I was just thinking it would have been funny if the university were named University of Rhode Island NorthEast. LOL. King Crimson wrote a song called Providence. It appears on their album Red and (that track) was recorded live at the Palace Theater, Providence, RI in 1974. You can listen to it here: http://youtu.be/f6ATKnekdqw I will warn you though... It's an improv and not for the faint hearted. Listen to it in the dark at your own risk!

My latest story (Metro Machine Corp...) takes place in the winter of 1987... Man, I must be getting old... 😲

Thanks for sharing another evocative account, Rook! I have no doubt that what you experienced was directly a result of the respect and strong sense of stewardship you felt for this place. It is wonderful feeling of privilege and belonging when our caretaker tendencies are rewarded with such a singular experience. I hope that car got you involved in more stories in Norfolk. I can't wait to hear them. Thanks!

What a breath-taking account Rook! You were granted with that vision because you were able to see and appreciate the uniqueness of that rare moment in time.
Thank you for sharing this special experience with us.

Thanks everybody,
Yes the older military towns have a fair share of activity.
To this day I know what I heard, and I know my cheek felt like it got wet, what I'm not sure about is just how much my 'damp cheek' was part of the experience or my imagination... I like to think it was part of the entire experience, but... Well I just don't know.
Succubiluv,
That would be great, but no rush, whenever you have the time to look into things is fine by me.
Respectfully,
Rook

He SNORTED on you! How (I HATE to use this word, but) exciting! Now THAT is a form of evidence that I can almost guarantee there is no abundance of.
How very, very interesting. Thank you for sharing this with us. It is true, what BriFisher said, there certainly is a lot of activity in the military towns, or past military towns (paraphrased).
Thank you.

Awesome story. I have a story on here from the time I spent stationed in Norfolk. You see crazy stuff in these old military towns huh?

lazria- This particular trip to Norfolk happened about 20 years ago... (1988) 😆 I was stationed there for 10 years...1993-2003 and we owned a home near the intersection of Granby and Little Creek.
There was one section of road out near the State Park in Va Beach that I saw something kind of like this. It was 230am on a Sat. Night and my wife and I both thought we saw a civil war soilder and his horse, made of mist, on the right hand side of the road as we drove past the State Park.
Succubiluv- I've been...blessed, lucky... Pay attention... Never grew up (at least not too much) 😉. I truly feel that everyone is born with an open mind, the ability to see across the veil between the physical and spiritual worlds. As people grow older most of them 'forget' how to do this, there are some however who do not. You have those who 'close' themselves dilerberatly (don't want to except 'the gift' and others who believe can learn how to 'see across' again. There is not enough room here to fully explain all my views on this.
Am I a sensitive? Let's just say that I'm still able to see across on occasion and this helps me help others.
Respectfully,
Rook

Excellant - sounds like your in tune with things just beyond the veil. Good thing you did back at the old graveyard. I hope your trip to Norfolk is calm, but depending on where in our lovely town you stay, expect something could possibly occur. Good day/night:)

HI ROOK--You've had a bunch of supernatural experiences that are highly visual and intriguing.
Do you consider yourself a "sensitive"?
And tell me what you think: Is it the spirits that open a person's mind to visual manifestations, or is it that some people are born that way?
Or, would you say that both are true?

It is too easy to abuse a system constructed to build egos and hierarchy. Too often used as a club to beat someone's comment out of existence, where many times that comment was a positive one. Trust me, that has happened more times than I can count. However, on the flip side of that is the non votes a very good comment will generate. Or going back to a comment you noticed as having a positive response, only to find those positives have then become a negative. I consider that an abuse of the system. It is meant solely as a way of expressing an opinion on the poster, not the comment.
