I saw this thing once many years ago when my sister was staying over at my apt. She actually woke up first to an orange 'O' shape just outside our door in a hallway. I woke up and saw this too in a swirling mass of black. I realized later it was the heater from a cigarette which was twirling very fast in a circle to get our attention. A vague, darker human shape formed in it and I called out my boyfriend's name thinking it was him. Then out of this stepped a very tall Victorian 'gent' into our room. That is how he was dressed-a high necked lace edged shirt tied with a cravat with a jewelled pin, vest and a dark cape with a black top hat. He resembled a gaunt Abe Lincoln and was at least 6 1/2 ft. Tall! He walked across the room and midway took a drag from his cigarette which lit up part of his face. His eyes were deep black sockets and we only saw him sideways as he walked in front of the bed but then just melted into the opposite wall. I got an incredible amount of detail as we were both fixated on this.
He gets around as this happened in Toronto. I find it interesting that many have seen him near churches. His 'assignment' seems to be related with backfallen Christians or tripping up those not committed to their faith. My boyfriend at the time was not a good influence and I found myself in a teen pregnancy. Generally caused a lot of havoc in my life that is still being felt today. I think anything skulking around in shadows is negative-probably drawn to all the turmoil in my life. He never said a word or acknowledged us in anyway.
I think about the baby boy I gave up for adoption (I was about 7 months pregnant at the time and was no longer welcome at home so my boyfriend and I moved in together) and wonder if his life has been good. I worry that the creature's appearance bode ill for my child's future.
Does it's name matter? I do not think they are harbingers of good and their presence is not to be welcomed.

I to have seen tall black shapes, and was a little disturbed at the time, along with seeing and hearing things that have scared me witless at the time, if you have faith then that's good just keep praying, in my opinion a lot of these things will run their own course, and to try to interact or bring in any other kind of mysticisim or white magic remedies could only do more harm than good,

I think the comment about this being some kind of harmless manifestation wandering, is probably right, bad or evil spirits feed of negative emotions and fear, often appearing during very turbulent times in our lives, if there is any issues in your life that you feal are not as they should be then try working them out, you will probably find this spirit will disapear,

If you do need to look for help be very carefull, choose some one who has actual documented sucsess in helping people in these situations,

But yeah, I think the shadow guy is some sort of watchman or police of the spirit world, or 'other' world if you will.

OR he could be a sinister demon, or both. Only God knows.

My advice? Seek refuge in almight god, and if you see him again, then tell it to stick his head where the sun don't shine!

You MUST NOT interact with it. If it is truly a demon, talking with it and giving it attention will only make him latch onto you. I once had one follow me for an entire year because I talked to him and got used to him, and while he never physically harmed ME, he choked one of my friends and by staying in his dark, malicious presence for so long my personality changed. I became very dark and hateful and I was even unable to enter churches without getting sick.

You NEED to be careful. Go see a priest and get a house blessing. Do not talk to it or ask its name. Ignore it as best as you can.

I've also experienced a tall shadow being - it brought an intense feeling of malevolence and terror with it that I haven't exeprienced in encounters with other ghosts. I don't think this was the same chap though - my visitor didn't have a hat - he was just a tall thin blob, and I was fortunate enough not to see him with my eyes.

The shadow man in the hat seems to be pretty common - I've read lots of stories where people have seen him. To the best of my memory (which is like a sieve!) he just seems to watch and wander about - not cause actual harm.

I think appearing in shadow form might be one of the easiest ways for spirits to manifest - I'd guess it take a whole lot less effort to appear as a shadow than in glourious technocolour! Having said that, I don't think what you saw is a run-of-the-mill ghost - he appears to many different people in many different places so he's not bound to anything. On the bright side, he might just wander off.

What you saw was definitely a shadow person, and I think this one is referred to as the Hat Man. I can't say for sure that all of the sightings were of the same shadow person, because I don't know that.

Shadow people, in my experience, are demons. A lower class of demon, however. The Powers such as Michael, Gabriel, Lucifer and others were given the ability to manipulate matter and can therefore take a solid form. Shadow people are not capable of doing this and are restricted to shadows on the walls or wisps of smoke.

I've never heard of these lesser demons doing real harm, but I'm sure it is possible. They do tend to cause an overwhelming sense of dread when they're present, though.

You can call upon archangels if you feel the need to. It's best if you do this in a calm state, usually before you go to bed and call on them in the form of a prayer. Formulate the prayer and then say it. You can also call upon the archangel which corresponds to your zodiac which you can find online, and if you cannot, I can provide it. If you want to do more than that you can purchase a talisman with the Archangel Michael's sigil, and/or light a white candle in a clean, uncluttered place in your home to attract angels.

As a child I've seen the samething. I was around 7 and I was sleeping with my brother in his room, I turn and say a very tall shadow dressed as you said but his face was long and shaped like an alligator. When I saw it I hide under the covers and as I peaked out to look at it it was facing the window then slowly turned to look at me with its backed still turned to me.

I too have experienced the shadow demon. Shortly after seeing it, I was physically attacked by an invisible entity, not the shadow demon, but it was there in my house minutes before being attacked. When I saw it I knew something bad was coming by the way I felt. I don't think they are good.

I can't believe someone said that a shadow demon is just, misunderstood, there of the under world the dark lord, if there not of GOD there of the devil.Don't think he don't exist all you have to do is read the papers anymore to know he's on the grind, were in the last days all you have to do is look around.

If it scares you it's not of GOD from what I've read when people have had an encounter with angels or good spirits there loving and not the lest bit scared. When people have encounters with these things they mostly feel fear. It sounds like the watchers look it up on your computer or your bible. My daughter has seen one of them also and felt fear wash over her.

look, andrew, a shadow demon is just, misunderstood. It actually does more good than an angel, so most likely, try to ask it questions, with a cross on, I don't know everything, don't take it for granted. But, shadow demons are usually good. But, be careful when confronting it!

I, too, have experienced 'shadow people.' Whether or not they are demons, or some other evil entity, I cannot be sure. What I do know for sure, is that in their presence, I have always been so paralyzed by fear that I am unable to move or even scream until a little while after they are gone. This is why I write "experienced" them, rather than simply "seeing" them, because it is certainly an omni-sensory experience.

It was not until I had been experiencing these entities for a few years, that I finally verbally articulated what I had sen and felt to someone else. Her immediate response was that they were 'shadow people'. It was then that I read that many others had been seeing very similar things. Since I had never even heard the term 'shadow people' before, much less seen graphic images, I believe it is quite probable that most other people who have seen the same things were, like me, also not influenced by information on these entities. And yet there are striking similarities in the things we've seen and felt (leading one to believe they were genuine experiences).

Where there seems to be great debate, though, is whether these entities are evil, benevolent, a type of paranormal police force, or simply the paranormal version of a Peeping Tom (in addition to a number of other scenarios put forward as possible explanations). While I do not have the answer to the question of their purpose and/or intentions, I would still offer a cautionary note about attempting to interpret these shadow entities, or- indeed -attempting to understand the paranormal, in general.

We attach meaning to things based on what we see, largely at the sub-conscious level. For example, if we see someone who is really well-dressed, with expensive-looking jewelry, etc., we make assumptions - based on our own life experience - about that person. Many shadow people appear to be wearing a similar hat and trench coat - a style that - based on our life experience, including images from various sources that we have been exposed to over the years - we subconsciously equate this outfit with an agent of the government, including possibly police, or even a spy. All of these subconscious connections lead individuals to believe differing things about the intentions of the shadow entity they experienced.

There is concept known as anthropomorphism which recognizes the human ability to give human-like characteristics or traits to non-human species/entities. For example, many individuals who own dogs strongly believe their' thought process is similar to humans'. Surely, most readers will recall someone having referred to their pet dog as a part the family because they believe the animal is so human-like.

In examining shadow entities, I would caution that we not do so through a process of anthromorphization. Though not particularly harmful, I do not believe it will in any way help us reach the truth. Instead, it will merely obfuscate information that may help us finally determine the source and intentions of shadow entities.

Well first off I want to tell you that I believe you, that's the one thing I want to hear when I try and tell someone about my experience, it helps alot. Have you had any seance's or tried an any way to communicate with the other side? I did when I was 12 and I have been experincing things ever since, anyway, I have seen this "shadow" too... A few months ago I had a huge migraine and the one thing I like to do is go to the room and just be in the dark, well I turned the lights out and I just layed there... Then I felt a prescence overcome the room and I looked to the right and there was a figure it was really tall and it looked like it was wearing a cloak... I didn't see a pimp hat but it did have a hood over its head... Anyways it was walking from my side of the bed and when it got to the foot of my bed it seemed like it was just passing by... But then I said " what the hell do you want?" and it turned looked at me and it just glided really fast towards me and it was right in my face... I have little curls of "baby hair" lol by my ear and it touched them! It freakin touched me! Oh my gosh I didn't know what else to do but scream and the only person I had to scream for was my boyfriend and he absolutly denies anything to do with ghosts spirits demons whatever... That is what sucks because I just feel so alone when it comes to this subject... I don't know what it was or what its purpose was... But last week I saw him again... I had a really bad headache and I went to my bedroom to lay down... I turned the lights out and the tv it was pitch black... I know I have only seen this twice but I don't want to sleep in the dark EVER again... This is crazy I'm 24 years old I shouldnt be afraid of the dark... Ok anyways I was laying there and I could see a black fog like thing and it went across the wall and I knew then it was the same thing... Then it sat down at the foot of my bed and looked at me... What's really weird though is this time he wasn't wearing a hood I could clearly make out the shape of his head... And he was bald... Ok when its pitch black in the room you arent supposed to see shadows or whatever but this thing is blacker than black so black you can see it in the dark... So freaky... He just looked at me and I covered my face I was so scared I started crying then I looked and he was gone but then I saw the black foggy mist thing again and it went under my bed! I just laid there crying I didn't want to get up I couldn't even turn the light on... I want someone to help me too... I think everyone who has experiences should get together and help one another... I can tell you I am curious to know more of this thing... Almost want to call on it... But I'm afraid that's a bad idea... Well let me know what you think.

Andrew, I've been seeing these shadows as well. They arn't exactly demons, I don't think. I've never been touched by one. I want to tell you that it won't hurt you, but I don't know for sure. I'm in Ohio also and I've seen these things during the day, in the evenings and at night. I'm seeking help myself. If you see the shadow again, as I suspect you might, I advise you not to stare at it. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. I'll help as best I can.

That is not a demon. I haven't figured out what those shadow men are yet. But so many people have seen them. I am wondering if they are kind of like reporters or "police" of the spirit world. Making sure that everything is in it's place. I really don't think humans are meant to see them. I think there are a lot of them around all the time. This is my theory though. I can tell you it's not a demon. I am still working on an explanation.

Well, as a devoted Wiccan (Please no hate speech. I get enough of that irl -.-), I have seen spirits and/or demons on a few occasions. I will not act like some sort of fearless master of the spirit world and say something like "Oh, it's easy. Just ignore it and don't show fear." It's a scary thng to see. Very scary. Some people can boast that these types of things don't scare them, but unfortunately I am not one of those people. I have a few rituals that are effective in repelling troublesome spirits, but as you seem to be devoted to your religion, I can understand why you may be reluctant to use them. The best advice I can give you is, if you see it again, confront it and tell it that it is not welcome. That usually does the trick. If not, I'm sorry.

But, something else to remember is that it isn't neccisarily an evil entity. I'd say that, before taking any action, you should try communicating or becoming comfortable with its presence. It could simply be curious or lonely.

This sounds exactly like the shadow demon I once saw out at night near a greenhouse when I was in my car. Your description is exact.

No face, dark shadow, weird pimp hat and long trench coat. There was no color whatsoever, just deeper shades of black. Even though this was over 8 years ago, reading your description gave me chills all over and my stomach dropped.

I don't want to know the name, or anything else. I just know that I've never been more scared in my entire life...

Hi Andrew, your experience sounds very similar to mine. From the age of around 9 to 12 my family and I lived an apartment where my younger brother and I shared a room. Sporadically, I would wake up in the middle of the night to find a creature/demon standing outside our bedroom door. He/it was between 6 and 7 feet tall. He always wore a cape that was black on the outside, but red on the inside; like what you described, it had on a large "pimp" hat too. The only difference was that what I saw had a face. It was an evil looking face. It had dark eyes and a long nose. It also always had a very devilish grin on his face. He would stand outside our room with his back up to the wall of the door facing. It seemed to like to stand there and peep around into our room. Thankfully, it never came into the room. I usually would roll over and try to go back to sleep. Several years later, my brother and I were talking about ghost stories and I began to mention this experience. I had barely gotten into the story when he said, "You're talking about the man with the black cape and big hat aren't you?" The hair on my arms stood up, he had seen him too and his experience was the same as mine. I am not sure what the thing was, but your experience reminded me of it. My family and I experienced other events at that apartment, but none of them were as terrifying as this one was for me as a kid.

Don't be afraid of a shadow demon.
They are angered easily by people hurting others. They are misunderstood they try to help people but, people get scared and don't let them help. This is a warning hes trying to help be carefull this usually means death is near if you see him again talk to him trust me he won't hurt you.

This is an interesting story because my sister and I have seen this thing. It really is this thing in an OLD time trench coat appearing and vanishing faster then you can react. And it sports a hat that looks like it was taken from the spy vs. Spy comic. When I was thirteen this guy was standing next to a tree in a church parking lot. I just happen to notice it standing there while playing with friends. At first I couldn't tell if he was watching us or looking away from us. Seconds later the hair on my arms where standing and my body was... Num. I couldn't look away... I couldn't speak. My friend asked if I was ok and I nodded to the man by the tree. Then he vanished in to nothing instantly.

I'm 23 now but when I was about 14 years old I was spending the night at my older sisters home in Indiana. I was aware that she had been practicing the Wicca religion for sometime now. Although that is not my belief I do not judge her for that. Anyways, back to my story...
I was asleep in the living room, sleeping really well actually from what I can remember, then I could hear something in my head say " wake up now" plain as day. My eyes suddenly popped open and I was wide awake. I looked around and the voice came back and said " look in the kitchen, PLEASE!" my eyes diverted toward the kitchen. I saw this...thing... To this day I don't know what it was. It was extremely tall. I would say close to 7 foot tall and black, like a shadow almost. And it almost glided across the floor. Not floating but not walking either. Just moving. My heart stopped. All I could do was stare at it. As it left from the kitchen it came in the living room and bypassed me going into my nephews room who was a baby at the time asleep in his crib. As soon as I saw this thing going into his room I took a big breath. A very loud gasp. It suddenly stopped and I could almost tell that it turned toward me to almost "look" at me. As soon as that happened, I literally could not breath or move any muscle in my body. I tried but "it" wouldn't let me. Then suddenly it jetted into the corner of the room where there was an overcast of darkness and I could no longer see it. I saw part of the figure pop out from the dark corner and look at me one last time then I didn't see it again and I could suddenly move and breath again.
I saw this "thing" one other time about a year later at my grandmothers house while visiting and I believe that same older sister was staying there visiting as well but I can't fully remember. It is something I want to forget but I simply cant. I just put my head under the covers and didn't look again until morning. That was 8 years ago and I haven't seen anything like it since but it has really burned a hole into my memory and I just want to know if someone anywhere can please help give me closer on this and try to explain any of it to me.
I am no liar and I am not looking for criticism. Just any insight on what it may have been. I am a Christian and believe in the lord so it isn't because I don't know god or because I practice something "dark" and I have never messed with any Ouija board. Oh and I was not dreaming. My sister has been Wicca for twenty years. I grew up around her being Wicca. It is apart of who she is and it doesn't "freak" me out. I just believe different. That's all. And if anyone is wondering, I still have all sets of grandparents. I have not lost anyone close to me thank god, so I don't believe it was any family member.

Hi Andrew, sorry how do you think what you saw was a demon? Did you get a evil vibe off it? Not all things in black are not evil they just can't manifest fully and look like shadows. This tall dark shadow is no joke; I have seen him in dreams to being awake. I'm no longer scared of him, because I've seen him so much. I finally ordered him out of my house in the name of Jesus, and I haven't seen him anymore, and don't won't to. He just stares, and watches people. He is evil, and anyone who sees him, really needs to give their life to God, and order him out. It worked, he's gone. You don't want to know his name or anything else about him, because he is very bad. Remember, God is not the author of confusion, and that is all he is.

it doesn't matter the name. The only thing that is sure from this demon is that its there to cause harm. This one is bold and it doesn't hide what it is and what its there to do, so I suggest you, ask for a blessing and start praying and continuously use the Name of Jesus Christ with in its presence. It annoys them. With one of this caliber, it will take a long time to get out. You have to remember, the longer it stays in your house, the more it will adapt to your emotions and feed off them and soon it will attach it self to you or a family member and this will be quite dangerous as it will start to invite others in as well. The longer you wait, the worse it will become, fight it in the name of Jesus and always, plead the blood of Jesus against it. Be careful and may God be with you.

I read your story, and that sounds exactly like somthing I saw on the side of the road one night. I was driving home one night and I saw what looked to be a very tall man, wearing a black trench coat and big floppy hat. He was walking in such a way, that he looked like every limb on his body was broken. He was isolating every step he took like a robot or an inch worm. I got closer to him, I shined my car lights on him as I passed, he looked towards my way, I realized that he didn't have a face. It looked like it was a piece of skin grown over where his face should have been. His skin was a really wierd color, like a blueish purple color. I pulled into this church parking lot across the street from where he was walking just to get a better look at him. I bright lighted him with my car lights, when I did, he literatlly disappeared and reappeared about 500 feet from where he was before. It didn't make any noise when he did that. It was almost like he had ran so fast that he wasn't able to be seen or somthing. I pulled out back onto the road and I had to pass him again to get to where I was going, when I did, he looked at me again as I passed and then he just disapeared. I have always wondered what he was, or where he came from, or even when he came from. I would just think he was a really ugly and deformed person, if he hadnt sort of defied gravity by moving that fast and if he had a face of some sort. I have always had this nagging feeling that he was never human. Like he never walked this earth in human form. I don't know if it is the same thing that you saw but the description really caught me be surprise. If you have any comments or helpful things to say please let me know. I would just like to know what the heck I saw and why I saw it. Thank you.

I have seen these things before. You tell it to get the hell out of your house in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazereth. You say Satan, get thee behind me!, like Christ said to Satan when he tempted him. Tell him he is not welcome in your house and tell him to f*** right off because you are a child of god and he can't scare you anymore.

DO NOT GET ENVOLVED WITH HIM. HE WILL KILL YOU IF HE GETS THE CHANCE. I know this because I've delt with demons before. Turn to God. Trust, beleive. DO you have a tatoo where it's a gate to hell? GET RID OF IT. Pray, go to church, turn to god!

That sounds like an invitation to trouble, my friend. I would think you would simply ant it out, and that can be done with prayer to Jesus Christ, lots of Holy Water, a house exorcism and the like. Do not think that it will tell you its name or why it is there, because it is under no obligation to tell you the truth.

Fight it and the temptation of curiosity. Don't get sucked into a relationship with it.

seeing things like "DEMONS" are so creepy... I think you just lack enough faith in God... Pray to God whenever you are scared it helps 😁

i have seen a demon liek that in my house before never while I was fully awake though so I don't know if it was real or not but I believe it was. Anyway I think that its not a demon but maybe an old old spirit that's why it lacks definition its dying (again lol) its not strong if it fled when it saw you. I think that "demons" like the one your talking about like shadowy figures are just old dark spirits that can't really doo anything anymore as long as you don't feed into them and give them energy

Andrew, I almost fell off my couch when I read this because I had a visit from someone exactly like this. I was thirteen and living upstairs in the attic and I was dreaming that at night I walked up to my front window and across the street under a tree he was standing there staring at my window and at me. Then when I was 18, I moved into a room downstairs and while sleeping, I sort of woke up (that paralyzing feel) and he was now standing right over me, just standing there! Please write me back when you can. I'd like to know more.

You are not alone on the troubling past, Galvon. Some people have pasts that would curl the toes of the most courageous persons on earth. Andrew: pretaining to your story, entities are as diverse and numuros as we are. There will not be a typical name for any such one, but each with a different identity. And such names are very guarded. As a side note have you seen this figure again?

I've witnessed spiritual war fare my whole life & things got even nuttier after I was ordained 4 years ago. People hire me for a number of reasons, to marry. I've been told by an Angelic source that they are harmless.
They do nothing but watch.
Most likely they spy on things and report them to Satan or any other commanding Devil.

I have seen exactly one reference to Satan in this dialogue...relax. Whether it be a culture or language barrier, I do not know... But many who comment with sarcasm or wit, seem to send you over the edge.
You came here claiming you were looking for answers, and after a month you seem to be our resident expert.
I personally feel that very little of the experiences expressed on this site are of demonic origin. But I do not feel the need discount every comment. Don't let your "esteemed poster" status go to your head... In some cases, it could just mean "bored".

Yes, Lou, the intent is to protect. Perhaps, I should have gone into deeper explanations more often, but I felt it better to stem the assault, asap. Often, a demonic infestation can be nipped in the bud via the Catholic Holy water, etc.; and more serious intervention is unnecessary.

Many times, Satan often probes, to ascertain the response of the individual. If it's the Rosary and calling upon God and Mary, it most likely will flee, and search out "low hanging fruit", so to speak. God bless.

In the past, I have been a bit taken back by Jim D.'s immediate diagnosis of demonic infestation in 99.99% of all cases... If White Buffalo's assessment is correct and the "better safe than sorry" approach is the intent, I agree no harm can be done in putting on hurricane shutters for a light rain shower.
To the author, no disrespect intended, but could we get some more information on questions asked or your opinion on the comments provided. The more information we have, the better your situation can be assessed. A shadow person in a poorly manifested spirit... A demon could present itself this way, but its effects would do more than cause anxiousness and wondering. As mentioned previously, exercising your faith will help you in the long run.

If so far you see some merit and agree with me then listen to this next part... There are two types of demon attacks!... Ones that are real and ones that are not... I think I have experience both types and to be honest To this day, I' still can't separate the demons created from with in and the real ones that attack from the outer, but one thing I do know... They both feed and nourish with your fear and your jumping at shadows? BadJuuJuu, I agree with you completely. Add to the "freezing" sensations ALL the other sensations that go right along WITH freezing from the inside out. The needle and pin pricks, the "crackings", the "white hot" fading into the numbing depths of cold. There is NO mistaking an outright, full force, intent demon encounter. Terror is the BEST way to describe that all consuming fear.

In the religion of this particular part of your upbringing, that goes right along with the customs, traditions, beliefs and texts of that affiliation. So, HOW could that be "wrong"?
When Lucifer was condemned (Oh, Geez. I SO hope this does not start one of those crazy...) it was Old Testament. There have been NUMEROUS changes SINCE then. Kind of a metamorphosis to fit the times. After the crucifixion, many things changed. Most importantly, the need for animal sacrifice. Some would call it a progression, of sorts.
But, as with ALL things, with progression comes REgression. We as a people have deviated from the Original Plan, creating our own "gods" and bringing in beings that have NO PLACE in our world. They are SUPPOSED to be either here, or there. NOT stuck in between.
So here we are, thousands of years later, either trying to pick up the pieces in this Spiritual War, and send them BACK to where they belong, or simply letting them be (if we are one of the "lucky" ones, we can actually "ignore" them).
I am SURE you understand there is so much more to that, but for me to type it here WOULD bring on that religious war (yep. That IS what I meant) that we do NOT tolerate on this site.

I have a similar story to the conference one that you also posted. A strong Healer entered the lair of a said evil one with his apprentice. The evil one spoke something along the lines (absolute translation is next to impossible, but the gist of it was...) of, "Yep. I will take on the Healer. Leave the stoolie to someone else." Come to find out that the Healer (unbeknown to him) already had a "follower" and the evil one figured on easy pickings.

Andrew: forgive me for comendeering your story, I just have a question that's been nagging me quite a bit. We've several distinctive memebers of diffrent religions all over our beautiful earth. I may be rather ignorent, or perchance it was the particuler branch of christianity I was raised. But I was under the impression Lucifer was imprisioned not to be released until the judgment day. As well as when a human dies they are taken into jesuses care. Thus there are no "ghosts" or the like. Was this teaching wrong or have I actually forgotten what I was taught so long ago?

Just my two cents. The fear one feels in the presence of a demon is unlike anything else. Your soul feels like it freezes. That's the only way I know to describe it. Your soul just goes to ice. And you know that this thing, was never a human. There is a world of difference between the feel of a demon, and seeing a shadow person. In the instance of seeing a shadow person, the reaction is a simple fear of the unknown. When you encounter a demon, you know. The fear is just...it's not even fear. It's terror. Plain and simple. Impossible to describe accurately.
To me, you sound kind of freaked out. Nowhere near terrified. I don't believe you encountered a demon.

No problem; it's my pleasure. It's also true that, quite often, initially any spirit may bring fear (understandably), but with demons this fear and attendant chaos actually increases over time (as it gains a foothold).

Demonic goals are twofold: first possession and then suicide, to escape its constant psychic assault and to finally feel free.

Another good question; thank you. Satan is very intelligent - he often embeds himself quite subtlely, The chaos, and attendant terror, often comes later, when he / it is closer to possession. It knows that, by this point, help will be more difficult to obtain. The Devil isn't stupid.

I just returned from an exorcism conference in Pittsburg, PA, and one priest said the demon laughed at one priest (assistant exorcist) when he entered the room - saying "you, stupid priest, don't even believe I exist". It was correct. The priest later confessed that he'd lost his faith and beliefs in both God and Satan. He since recovered his faith and is now "recharged", so to speak.

And again, in the spirit of discussion (and also because I believe it would help the author to see both sides of the opinions stated here, clearly), MOST people who do not know what it is that they have encountered are startled, frightened, scared, nervous, or straight up one heart beat away from cardiac arrest.
I, myself, have just about lost my water when in the presence of what I now KNOW to be a purely benevolent Being.
Thousands of people have encountered Shadow People. Generally, the first response is fear. Some retain that fear long after the experience, some seem to just melt into a "what the h..." kind of thought. The exact same thing could happen when the same study group meets a new neighbor.
Do you see what I am getting at?
I COMPLETELY understand what you are saying about demonic situations. I understand that they have many of the same "components", and chaos is one of them. Eventually.
What I am trying to understand, and can not seem to grasp 😊 (and believe me, I HAVE tried), is WHY does it seem that EVERY "shadow person" would appear to BE a demon, when the chaos is not always present?
I totally agree with what you said about "'Shadow people' are spirits, and NOT people." Only, I would personally replace the word "spirit" for ghost, but then, that is all in my perspective after encountering a few myself. They are NOT people, in my opinion, as they are currently life impaired.

hello this does seem to be something demonic. Every time I have had something to do with a demon I was known for haveing a cross. Praying sometimes works to. If the demon does not hold any threat to your family I would just keep calm but if the demon trys to come in contact with you or one of your family members try talking to your local preist or a ghost researcher. Fair and civil questions. Thank you for the civility (it has not always beeen so). I'd love to expand. As a demonologist, thete are tell tale signs I look for re. Possible demonic activity.

Fear and chaos are always indicitive of the demonic, as are oddities of appearance. For reasons beyond me, God does not permit Satan to exactly replicate a human person or image. There's always some oddity of appearance, i.e. Missing feet, etc. Dark shadows DO indicate a demon. Honestly, I don't even use the term poltegeist, which means playful spirit. It has no meaning. 'Shadow people' are spirits, and NOT people. It could be a human soul, but they don't contain an oddity of appearance, and do NOT bring both fear and chaos. This story, ergo, is clearly demonic.

yea that's true. Its already escalated, from just randomly messing with me while I slept (it had little creatures on top of my body and felt me up) and another time it grabbed my foot.

But now I sense it constantly. Lucky for e I have mormon missionaries living next door, I will ask them to come over and see if they feel something. If they do then they can help get rid of it.

I want to learn the different types of spirits, because I want to develop my senses more and more, without causing them to be attracted to me.

First of all, if you feel that its evil do not try to communicat with it, you don't want it to start doing more then it has already. It could just be a shadow spirit. I know seeing something like this is very frightening but not all ghost/spirits look the same and not all are evil or a demon. Pray. You have no idea how powerful a prayer is. I pray you get the help and have the strength for whatever happens. Stay strong!

in my personal experiences I have to agree somewhat with JimD, the shadow things always feel bad. And I believe they are demons.

Today my gf, who is much more aware of the paranormal than me, cussed at the shadow man in my room (closet) and we both felt its angry aura trying to scare us. She says it talks to her whenever she comes in my room, and it followed her home today.

nothing personal JimD but I'm going to have to agree with whitebuffalo. I cannot see this as a demon or an angry/evil spirit as it has not attacked or tryed to manipulate the writer of this story. But I agree that they should take precautions in dealing with it. As for seeking help they should find someone who is experienced in dealing with the ententy. Perferably someone who shares the same religious beliefs as them.

What about this particular story points to the demonic? I HONESTLY want to know. I HAVE read your explanation, JimD. But the description of the event is more in lines with a "simple" shadow person. And just so you know, I have also read through many of your comments that explain out your point of view. I just CAN NOT "see" this as a demon.

A friend of my mothers that passed about 15 years ago mentioned the same exact type of shadow spirit. She was wide awake, so she wasn't dreaming or anything. She also described it as having a black top hat with a black long trench coat. She was a very devout Christian, I believe it tried to intimidate her. She had the gift of discerning of spirits. She just asked it to leave "In The Name Of Jesus Christ," & it was gone. I understand that some of you may be offended by this, however it's the way the story was told, so I am sticking to it.
Lately I have been seeing a shadow figure walking back & forth down our hallway. My 2 1/2 year old son was telling me every night lately, that he has been seeing a ghost in his room & down the hallway. He described it as a shadow. I thought he was just trying to sleep with mommy & daddy since he was afraid to sleep in his bedroom which is down the hallway. That was until I had seen this thing myself. My daughter used to have the same room, she also told me that she saw a ghost. I used olive oil to anoint the room about 5 years ago, she didn't talk about the ghost after that. I have no idea why these things bother us. Why they leave for awhile, then return. Our ghost may even be a different ghost altogether then the one my daughter had seen, who knows. You may want to go to your local courthouse to find info on who may have owned this property before. Or have your mom talk to the person who sold you this home, they may know if someone died there. Dark shadows, wisperings (that only one person can see) are tell tale signs of demons. They try to isolate one person who sees this stuff, while nobody else does - to make them believe they're nuts. Andrewjwgifted - I have to second what zetafornow stated. The shadowman I saw did exactly what zeta said. He had his own purpose, his own destination. I was not part of it. To him, I didn't exist.

He was solid black, no features, but there was no sense of evil coming from him. Evil is something that is not normally mistaken. Black doesn't mean bad. It's just what it is.

I agree with granny... I think this belongs to the shadow people, I have seen them. You mention that this being was looking at you as it went through the wall. Typically, the shadow people that I have seen do not look in my direction. They are what they are... Shadow people, no purpose really and no intent to do harm. Now, with that being said; I am not an expert as I am sure most people who are on this site are not. But I would be cautious as to call on any demon. In fact, if this shadow being does not show itself again, it would be best to forget about it. Ghosts, spirits, entities, noises, objects moving, doors slamming... None of this frightens me, what does frighten me and should everyone...demons.

I suggest that you look up Shadow People. They are NOT demons. They are simply the life impaired essence of a being that does not have enough energy to fully manifest itself. It is almost like listening to the radio and it is slightly off channel. You get the white noise right along with the program.
The "program" is the Shadow that you see. The "white noise" is the fact that there are no real discernible features to this particular ghost.

I would suggest, for your own peace of mind that you try an ignore the idea that this was a demon. He/she sounds NOTHING like a demon would. This site should clear up MUCH of what is written in your paragraph beginning with "I just want to know who"

I need serious help. I can't post a new story and I forgot my old account. I am literally at the breaking point I can't take this anymore I NEED GUIDANCE! I was laying down, the spirits always attack me between 3am and 4:30am I am eastern US time. I can ALWAYS FEEL IT when an entity is around. I KNOW from experience they can cause physical pain. I just turned 27 and its been like this almost all my life starting when I was in my early teens. I'm frightened and that feeds them. I can't help it.
