Dear Morticia1,
What are saying sorry for?
I am glad that I could make you laugh. I laughed much worse after I found out who I got scared of!
Sitting on a branch of a bush and scaring the wits out of me 😨
Thanks for reading and appreciating. The honour is completely mine if my story is counted among your favs.
And the courage, comes from my parents.Yup.

My gosh, I sure got a good laugh out of this one! Thanks so much for sharing. I especially laughed at your joke that you are now a fat panda. I'm going to use that! What a great way to help us keep our heads on straight. You are more brave than I. I am very used to the sound of crickets so I know exactly the sound you were hearing! Good story telling!

[at] Skeptic-Ari- o come on man you don't need to be sorry I didn't mean to say something unkind! I'm only surprised that why is your story against the guidelines! That doesn't mean that it's bad or I'm angry or something😜 don't worry 😊 and don't be sorry...

*cracks up laughing* Sorry Ari but I love this story of yours! It just shows we ALL need to try and investigate before saying it can't be explained 😊

You had, as others have said, the courage to investigate the sound you were hearing to make see if it was or wasn't paranormal. It wasn't paranormal but it still makes for a great experience. And I'm putting it into my favorites 😊

Dear WishfulNull,
Thank you so much for reading and the kind words.
I appreciate your honesty too.
I feel that experiencing something unexplained is like the tossing of a coin. You either really experience the paranormal or there is a logical explanation behind it, you just have to be persistent. Its either heads, or it is tails.

Dear Amie_16,
Thank you for reading and commenting.
I am sorry that my story did not live up to your expectations. My apologies.
As for your objections about the eligibility of the story to be here on YGS, I rather not say anything. My friends here have already said pretty much there is, and I couldn't do better any way.
Do reply if you have anymore to say.

Dear zombie_killer_of_india,
That's what I am talking about! You see these things give rise to urban legends in time. It just needs a rumour to go around once or twice. Our ignorance makes us cripple, don't you agree?
Thanks for reading and commenting. Read my other story too?

Dear Obsidian0666,
Yeah!I felt like doing that too! Just hide and wait for the damn thing to go away! Now you know the whole story, you know what would have happened, right! That sound would have continued throughout the night, and I would have been reduced to a trembling wimp (I do not claim that I am not one, no offence). That too for no reason!
Actually I was angry with myself for getting scared so easily.
Thanks for reading and commenting. Do read my other story at your leisure.

Dear Granny,
*smacks himself in the head for stupid grammatical error*Thanks for being lenient on/towards me.

I think I should have made it clearer... Not your fault.
What I meant by a leettle letdown was that since I debunked my own "What the hell was that?" moment, you might have felt a tiny weeny "awww poop" in your heart. Not as big as the "awwwwwww, poop" you feel when you debunk your own "What the hell was that?",but a minuscule one.
πŸ˜† πŸ˜† πŸ˜† Thanks for replying though.

Ari: I think maybe you misunderstood. I'm not in the least "let down" by your experience. That's how I feel sometimes when when I'm able to debunk my own "what the hell was that?" moments πŸ˜†. I'm so sorry, I should've made that statement clearer ❀

Meet the co-conspirators (this submission is dedicated to them);Thank you valkricry & rookdygin, thanks for setting my head straight on my shoulders from the beginning.
(With encouragement from sds and WishfulNull)

Dear Granny,
Thank You! Thank You! Thank You!
Thank you and Miracles too for being lenient to me.
As for the investigation, I was quivering in my pants towards the end. It seemed like I was feeling a chill too. Thinking of how much power the brain/imagination wields over our senses, if you let it get the better of us!
And I am so sorry it was a "leettle" letdown.

Dear Gayatrishiva,
Thank you for appreciating and confirming.
Ah that must have been a horrifying few minutes of your life! So glad you didn't just scream bloody murder.
Sidenote:Do you get football/soccer dreams at night? Or maybe you find time for practicing martial arts when you sleep?πŸ˜‰

Dear BadJuuJuu,
Toads=footsteps!mu ha ha ha ha! Who would have imagined that! No seriously, if we hadn't thought on our feet, we would each be having a ghost encounter that would inherently be false, right! Thanks for reading and appreciating so much. That was a gruelling investigation, and with no back up (read no mommy at home to run crying to)!
Thanks to you and Val for standing up for the story, and in turn for me, in my absence.Grateful.

Dear Casper_the_ghost,
Actually, that was my condition too, until the time I hadn't found out. And then the relief!Ahhhhh! And I was suddenly so tired too! Felt like lying down on the grass then and there. I think immense psychological relief does that to people like me (scaredy cats).

Oh, this was just excellent, Ari - quite brave to go and really investigate an odd happening, Multiple times, until you found the true answer! Now, how many of us would have likely just cowered inside the house, sweating it out, convinced a phantom was out there, after checking that no physical person was outside making the noise?! (Ahem, *timidly raises hand*)
You were determined to keep going, and that takes a lot of guts. Very well written, too. Straight Into my faves πŸ˜† A refreshing new take on a ghost story - one with an investigative twist. Thank you, my friend! Best wishes to you,

I've read the submission guidlines too, and I fail to see where this experience does not meet them.
"The first and most important point: This is a site about real ghost experiences." I'm sorry, but to me debunking a ghost is a paranormal experience in its own right. Why? Because first you have to have something seemingly paranormal going on. In this case an anklet wearing maiden, at least it seemed so on the surface. Of course the title says it all:

I actually have read the guidelines lol. The guidelines don't change my opinion of this story in the least. Investigation is better than panic, this story may just be what inspires someone to take charge of an unnerving situation and not give in to fear. Reading about a possible ghost is much different than experiencing a possible ghost, and investigation is the best bet when experiencing something. Most things turn out to have rational explanations, why be scared when a little investigation would set those fears to rest? This story is brilliant example of what to do when something odd happens.

[at] BadJuuJuu - haha man I'm not saying that it ain't good to read what someone has experienced or how to face something! I'm just saying that this site is not supposed to accept such stories which aren't having ghosts in them if you could please read the guidelines...!

Well, Amie, sometimes it's just nice to read an experience where the poster had the courage and the presence of mind to seek out a rational explanation. Hopefully this story will encourage others to face their fears and investigate seemingly frightening events.

LMAO, loved this story and it's whimsical ending.

You sure know how to set up a story and you're investigative work was impressive. I would have been hiding in my house and wouldn't venture out to check to save my life.

Hi skeptic_ari,
I too had a similar experience in my village. But I didn't had enough courage to go and check. When I asked my granny, she explained it to be insect.
Anyone who has experienced should know how similar it sounds.

Ari: I am an Indian and believe me, such a thing has happened to me uncountable times until now! You hear sounds that sounds exactly like those of 'anklets' but then later on, on investigation, you find out that they are nothing but insects/bugs. But well, reading this account has reminded me about one true incident that my father told me that took place with himself many years ago when he was young. I will post that story very soon. 😊

Ari,

Well done my friend. A very frightful tale with a happy ending.

This is what its all about. Everything normal/natural must be investigated and ruled out... Who would have thought a Little O'l Cricket Bug could be so nerve wracking. 😁

Thanks for sharing.

Great big LOL and straight to faves. 😁
Last summer I would hear footsteps through the grass in the backyard, but it would be only me and the dogs outside. I would shine the flashlight around, looking for anybody, neighbors, stray dog, chupa cabra, anything at all, and couldn't find anything to account for the footsteps. Finally I shone the flashlight into the grass itself, instead of over the grass. As it turns out, we have a lot of toads in the backyard, and the "footsteps" were toads moving through the grass. Made my dogs' after dark pee trips much less unnerving lol. Toads-1. Crazy redneck-0.

Hi Ari,

Great story yes that cricket also make similar noise as that of anklet. I also had similar experience and believe me I was more scared in this than when I really encountered real ghost. It was one night me, my mum, sis and bro all were sleeping in the same room in the same bed. I was studying in college at that time. Now in between I was feeling thirsty and I woke up to drink water but the water bottle was empty so I went into kitchen and filled the water bottle and drank water. When I returned I saw someone was sitting on my bed edge. I thought it might be my mom or sis so I covered myself in my blanket to sleep. I just turned and I got shock of my life as I saw my mom, sis nad bro sleeping and now I got so scared as to who this person could be. I just froze there and didn't move my leg or body as it was sitting near by leg. I was thinking was there any guest who came or after I slept did any guest came etc... While thinking all these I was dead frozen and scared to wake up my mom who was just near by or raise a voice. At one end I was damn scared and other side I was thinking who or what that could be and why it is sitting still near by bed edge. And suddenly I remembered it was my pillow (new pillow) I keep one pillow for my legs and it got entangled in the blanket and was standing upright inside my blanket. Phew when I gussed it was my pillow I just gave one big kick to it and I was like Oh god I am alive. In fact I was sweating a lot due to fear.

Ari: Great detective work! Kudos for investigating and finding the source of your anklet wearing maiden😊.

You know, I'm one to look for explanations but when I can/do debunk experiences, I can't help but feel a leettle sense of letdown πŸ˜†. It's the complete opposite of "What the hell was that?" More like "awww, poop!"πŸ˜†
