The Man In Black Tries To Get You

I was about 13 when it all happened. It was Friday, I don't necessarily recall the date but it was in the summer. I had invited my cousin on my mom's side over, since we were going to my uncle's. She was like my sister at the time; no one could pull us apart. When we arrived at my uncle's, he told my parents and us what rooms we were going to be sleeping in. My cousin and I usually got the bedroom beside the bathroom, but that time my uncle put us in the room beside our normal room.

I always dreaded that room and was so happy when we didn't have to sleep in there. It was a dark color red. I hate red on walls. I always have. It makes me feel angry and frustrated, but I sucked it up and went upstairs and put my stuff in the room.

It was all crowded with boxes of stuff that my aunt would sell at her craft shows. The worst part was, there was a huge mirror in front of where I was going to sleep. I hate mirrors in my room or any room that I sleep in. It's a phobia for me. I can't even have the bathroom door open when I go to bed or I will not sleep. In front of the mirror were those ceramic dolls. I have always thought they were pretty but always nice to be kept away and not staring at you when you sleep.

Anyway, that night my cousin and I did what we always did before bed and, well, talked for hours until my cousin fell asleep on me. That was normal for her. I was slowly getting sleepy, but having a hard time because there was so much stuff in there that it would make anyone claustrophobic, and that mirror facing me. Everything was just driving me crazy so I just laid there and stared at the ceiling. Finally I fell asleep.

In my dream I was running not looking back. I was so scared too but I didn't understand why, so I got the courage to look back. There was this tall old man. He was all dressed in black, with a long black cloak on, and a black hat that looked like a cowboy hat but it was bigger around the sides. He smirked at me, as if he was enjoying me being scared. He was only walking, having courage that no matter how fast I ran, he would catch up.

I kept running and running, until I saw a house with the door open. There was an old lady standing there waving me in. I looked back and that man wasn't there anymore, so I ran inside and the lady shut the door fast. She told me to hide, I needed to hide fast. I asked her why, and she told me so he couldn't find me. Then she brought me into her room and told me to hide under her bed. All I focused on was getting under the bed, but when I turned my head I saw a huge window with the blinds open, revealing the center of the window. The old lady gasped and I wasn't sure what was happening until I saw his face in the window. She said, "It's too late. He knows where you are."

I woke up and gasped. I was so scared I didn't want to go back to sleep, but then I saw the closet door open and he was standing there. The room was so small that there was no way I could get out without being beside him. He kept smirking, like telling me he got me. I knew if he was going to come get me, that was going to be the last night of my life. I don't know why, even to this day, but I just knew, but when I turned the light on he was gone.

I can't see the story, it gets cut off after two sentences. Maybe a summary in comments?

I think some spirits don't know that kids are not ready to know what they are trying to tell them... I don't think it is nice to mess with kids in this way, but maybe it happened for a reason, a reason or purpose you would discover someday.

And sometimes people like you act like messengers for others through relaying your experience (s).

Sounds like this is a bad dream or nightmare related to the anxiety of sleeping in a room you don't like, but it could also have to do with the room itself. I can totally sympathize with that. I moved to a new house a few years ago (not brand new, but new to us), and slept in the spare room for the first few weeks while we were painting and reflooring our bedroom. I had nightmares in there and I believe the reason was that my feet pointed towards the door which was right at the bottom of a staircase. According to feng shui, the chi or energy rushing down the stairs, coupled with the fact that my feet were facing the door, created this high energy environment that gave me nightmares. The nightmares went away when I moved into the master bedroom. However, I always felt uneasy in the master bedroom for no apparent reason, and could never sleep in there alone when my husband was out of town. I used to feel much more comfortable in the living room. We've moved again, and I also felt somewhat uneasy in my new room until I rearranged the furniture so that my head is to the north and my feet don't point directly at the door. I now feel safe when I go in my room and shut the door. I feel like it is my sanctuary and that the energy in the rest of the house (which sometimes makes me uneasy) can't disturb me there. Perhaps you just really don't like that room. It clearly makes you uneasy (and I don't blame you, given the red walls, the mirror and the clutter). That would make me or anyone uneasy too. I suggest you politely ask your uncle not to put you in there any more.

Are you sure the Undertaker (WWE wrestler) wasn't hiding in your closet?

I'm not so sure what this one was, maybe just a sick twisted soul wanting to mess with you, maybe.

This could easily have been a dream that bled through into wakefulness, or perhaps even (less likely) a case of you dreaming that you woke up and saw him in the room. As Micha_1998 said, you were afraid of the room, which might have prompted the horrible dream. I can see why that would be terrifying, though. Hope you weren't too frightened by it 😊

Hmmm...I don't know about it being the hat man, Lunataari, because I always heard that the hat man was like a shadow of a man wearing a hat and that he had no facial features... But I do thing it was an evil spirit... 😕

I saw this being once, then after that I started having dreams about it/him. It just baffles me that you described the same exact thing I saw. I was told that I saw the 'Hat Man'

Have you ever had any other ghostly experiences in your Uncle's house? Otherwise, I believe this could've been an evil spirit passing by and infesting itself in your dreams. The spirit also could've have been attached to an item in the boxes. Or it could've just been your imagination since that room creeped you out anyway. Hope I helped 😊
