Thank you ghostgirlforever, but I guess we'll just have to disagree on that point. They may not go where humans go, but then again, they just may.
The fact that you see animal spirits has no bearing on them crossing over dear. If that were the case, you would have to believe that humans don't either. People see them all the time!

Javelina, I'm sorry for your loss and animals can't cross over on humans go to heaven or hell animals simply stay where they died forever really sad to me but I can see animal spirits and communicate perfectly and they don't cross over hard to believe but they don't 😢

You have immortalized your little sister Sheila, in your heart-rending account. I can feel the love, the pain, the sorrow, and also a sense of relief. It is sometimes hard to believe that life is so transcient; to wish for just one more tomorrow.
My deepest sympathies on your loss. I know it has been quite a while now, but I am sure you still look back with a sense of longing. Your account of Sheila's passing, has definitely stood the test of time!

Thanks so much for apreciating the experience we had that night. Each comment I receive on this story makes me feel closer to the people who leave them. And it's nice to hear that it touches people so.
On a side note:
So far, you are the only one who caught that about my mom and the tree. I'm telling you, it got to be a joke in our little home town. You may have heard of the place since you live in Vegas. Big Bear Lake isn't far from you. There's a stretch of road on the main highway thar goes through our town called 'Red Ant Hill', and for all the years I lived there I never tried to find out how it got it's name (you know I'm going to look it up now though, right?), but it was a long 'S' shaped curve that was much higher at one end. If you're going downhill in the winter and it's icy, it can get pretty squirrely. As you come to the second curve in the 'S', there is a huge pine tree with a very wide trunk that sits just a foot or two off to the side. That's the tree. They never would take it down because it actually protects the house that sits 10 or 15 beyond it. But that tree was the bane of my mom's existance. She would be grumbling to herself as she took that curve in the winter. And whoevr was with would be holding on tight because you just knew it was your turn. Once we got safely past it, life was good, but for the mile or two before you got there that was all you could think about. 😆
It's funny when I think about it now, and she never hit it hard enough to do any harm to herself, but it was like a magnet for her! We carved her name in it once, no idea if it's still readable.

Oh my goodness, this was such a heart-touching story I have tears in my eyes. I'm a sensitive woman, but not usually this sensitive. I'm very sorry for your loss, but it was beautiful how peacefully your sister decided to say goodbye.

By the way, your mom hit the same tree 4 times? That part gave me a laugh that I really needed. This story is going in my favorites.

I know how hard it is to watch as someone you love so much starts fading away from the abuse they have put their body through. And yes, their loved ones are going through it as well. We all wish we could help them quit, or even cut back. But we also know that they have to want it, and they have to do it. Sadly, it doesn't always work out that way.
I'm so sorry that you are going through this, it breaks my heart. Just make sure that he knows you will always love him. It's hard to do sometimes, I know how frustrating it can be. But in the end, it is the best you can offer. And I believe it helps them make their transition into the next life a little bit smoother when there is love to help guide their weary souls.

I believe I had a similar experience with my Dad. I was driving to the hospital and "The Living Years" came on the radio. I found out later it was at or near the time he passed. I just wanted to let you know that you weren't alone in such an experience.

this story touched me here (my heart) I've lost a grampa a few years ago and i;m worried because my other grampa is in the hospital, but this was a very beautiful story, and I'll say it before I forget, I'm sorry for your loss

You are absolutely right. It was special. I was honored by that gesture even more than you know.
I have five other sisters (our brother passed a couple of years before Sheila) the two who did not even go to the hospital at all, cannot recall receiving any sign of her passing. And they are the type that would recognize a sign.
Three sisters made it to the hospital before she passed. All three live in So. California and were much closer to the hospital than I was. Sheila knew I wouldn't make it to her in time, so she came to me.
You should have seen Ruth's (my daughter's partner) reaction. It was priceless! She had never witnessed anything close to a paranormal experience in her life before that night. She tried to hold in her awe and wonder over the whole thing, but it got the best of her in the end.😊

I almost don't know how to respond. I thank you for appreciating my experience from that night for what it was, a sweet and loving goodbye as Sheila moved on. She knew exactly what to do to get our attention. No one in that car had any doubt about what was happening. It didn't need to be discussed. It just was.
I imagine her being light as air, floating, sailing, spinning, skating, dancing and laughing as she went. Her long hair loose and flowing free. That image makes my heart smile. ❤ 😊

In all my expirence's...all the times, all the people I have seen after they passed, only once have I ever seen some one close to me... Someone I loved. I didn't make it through your story with out stopping several times to wipe my tears. I don't know you... I didn't know your sister but what I can tell you from what I do for my life is that your sister reaching out to you that way was her saying she loved you. You're very lucky. When I read this it felt as if I was hit by a truck right in my chest and just thinking about it while typing is making me tear up. It reminds me of when I woke up in the morning a bit scared and found out an hour later that my aunt passed away. I'm glad your sister gave you a goodbye. I wish that would happen to us all... Getting a nice goodbye.

I had a small experience from my half brother when he died in 2006 but not nearly as elaborate and heart breaking as your story.

Thank you for reading my story. Sheila coming to say good bye was so perfectly timed that it was in no way an accident that the song came on when it did. My kids still talk about that night whenever one of their friends brings up the topic of ghosts, and they tell them the story. It's funny to watch their expressions when they realize there were so many witnesses, and one of them is a Sunday school teacher (she teaches high school English too).

Oh my gosh... I remember this story! This is the first story I have ever read when I came across this site. And in a way, it broke my heart.

I used to be an alcoholic, too. But everything changed since I met Jake... He took me hiking... (I hope you remember my story...:)) And it took my mind off alcohol ever since.

It is mysterious how our loved ones has their own way of saying good bye especially if they know that we are having a hard time letting go of them. Sheila is an example. You now have an angel watching and guiding you. ❤

Thnks for reading. It wasn't so much her reflection, a it was me taking on her characteristics. My hair had actually gone wavy, not just in the reflection. And the chin was more in the way I held my head as I went to look up into the mirror. When my daughter saw what I saw, that was when I Knew the time was close.

Jav, this story hit me so hard. I'm literally teary-eyed, and feel quite overthrown by the emotion I could pick up from reading, Lol. Thank you so much for posting this, even if it wasn't that recent, it's good to come across those good 'ol heart-felt experiences with relatives. I'm sorry that she passed before you got to say goodbye, properly. I guess you can remain content in the fact that her suffering is now over.

I just now realized you had left this comment. Thank you, the scenery at night in the desert can hit you that way. You can see for such a long distance when the moon is bright, and when it isn't, the stars seem so close you can touch them. If it weren't for the beauty of the nighttime, I don't think I could stay here. Right now it's at least 100 degrees outside and the summer has just begun.
I have to smile every time I think about me pleading for the radio that night, we had been on the road for hours and it was to the point that they were going to start replaying Cd's we had heard already. But I agree with you, it could have been any station and that song would have come through. It was destiny.

The way you described the scene in your comment is arresting. Your words are able to recreate the scene beautifully. I find it interesting that you all were listening to cds for the longest time and then YOU begged for the radio to which they all finally gave in:) Thank Goodness for that or the song would have never had a chance to play... And then the Oldies station is the only station that would come in clearly:) It was as if it was meant to take you back to a time when all of you were young and the world hadn't lead you all beyond the safety of your front yard. I believe that song would have come on at any point that you would have turned the radio on.

Thank you for your kind words. You are right, she couldn't have made it any more perfect than she had. I don't know if you've ever been to Arizona, but the desert is beautiful at night. And September is still warm weather here. So, anytime you have to travel, it's best to do so at night when it's cooler out and less traffic is on the road. So for us to have been delayed because of the traffic, is odd in itself. But when we did pull over to the side, and the song was fading away, we were looking out on the desert from the top of a long canyon wall. The moon gave off just enough light to make everything look surreal, frozen in time almost. It was like standing in a painting. The only thing that seemed to move at all were the shooting stars. We never did bother to check, as it was obviously a meteor shower, but the scene was just the most perfect moment in time, the kind you feel was made for you personally. I'll never forget that.
And to your question about the year 1962? No special significance whatsoever. Sheila was born in 1959. The oldest and youngest of us eight children are ten years apart in age, and 1962 was just another year. ❤ ❤

I'm glad you read my story. I've been thinking about my sister and brother a lot since you posted your story. I don't believe either one of them have been around since they passed on. I know my sister crossed over, I felt her leave that night. I also felt the freedom she was experiencing at that moment as well, and I can say it was the most eye opening sensation I've ever felt.
I know that both of them have moved on to another realm, another life on earth, another chance to get things right and brighten someone elses life with their beautiful light. Both were exceptionally talented, the kind of people that are described as born with their special talents, they just came to it naturally. I do miss them, but I know they've moved on to brighter lives.
I often wonder if it isn't true when they say that some people were just "born before their time" and they are only given just so long before the clock gets reset and takes them away from us, only to put them where they truly belong. Like they were on loan to us for that small window of time. And we were just fortunate to have them for as long as we did.

😭 ❤ My brother past away May 12, 2007... I am very sorry that she had to go that way! My brother was on life support then the doctor said he was brain dead and we pulled the plug 19 days away from his 21 birthday!

I left out an important detail from this day. My middle daughter, Sarah, unfortunately, could not make the trip with us and stayed behind. She was alone at work with no one to relieve her. After work she had to meet her husband at band practice. On their way home that night, at midnight, the song on their radio in the truck was "Love Hurts". Sarah said she knew it was from Aunt Sheila and the tears started to fall. 😢
