hi my name is mario I been seen this man with a trench coat and old hat after my suicide attempt at the age of 17. I let him in my room and he never left, I always ask him what he wanted or why was the reason he was there... He never answer me thow... My mother and father said they always felt someone by me like a spirit and too be careful what let in. My father said he seen him in the bathroom after I took a shower he thought I was still in there and said my name and nothing. He said he pulled the shower curtin open slowly were the shadow was and was shocked too see no one there... I wasn"t afraid of it until I met my wife. She said she fell asleep by me and was pulled by her arm half ways off the bed, she thought it was me playing with her but found out I was deep asleep... She looked around and no one... She said she thought she seen a man with a trench coat and hat by my closet... After she told me all this I exhaild I was in shock because I never told her about this spirit... She would of thought I was crazy or something. But after, I told her about it. She made me promise to tell it to leave and never come back and I did... Ever since then I never seen it. Ever... I'm 27 now and sometimes stay up at night looking around at dark shadows but nothing but every once in awhile I still fill its presence around me, breathing down my back of my neck but I turn and nothing... But I know ill see it again someday... But for now ill be waiting for it...

I've seen him before in my dreams, but he wasn't friendly that's for sure.

I don't know if its the exact same guy, but I remember being young, probably sixth grade, and dreaming of one day being a hot shot movie director. As I was walking down a red carpet I noticed a shadowy man in the crowd. I started to run. The dream seemed to transition to a parking lot where we had a shootout (This was also around the same time I started watching action movies like Die Hard, but the principal here remains the same nonetheless) and I couldn't seem to hit him. So when I hid behind a car and popped up again I was alarmed when I couldn't find him. Then I turned around and saw him standing in front of me. Next thing I knew I was on the ground bleeding into the pavement and he just disappeared. I awoke in a cold sweat, and since then things like that have scared the ever living bejesus out of me.

This particular apparition is known as a "Shadow Person"...There are so many who witness the Hat Man, as well as the Hooded Guy... See my comment below for my views on the Hat Man...It's very interesting that your sighting occured when it did... In most accounts that I've read or heard, he usually appears days, weeks, or months after the loss...I'd like to hear more about it, aas I think there are a lot of us here who would...

Over the weekend I watched my terminally ill mother die from cancer. My cousin and I had been up round the clock to administer her morphine and although I was not tired I told my cousin I needed to step outside for some fresh air. It was dark out side and I sat on the hammock. I turned to look at the windowed sun room kitchen and as I was turning my head I saw a dark figure with what looked like a detective's hat. I wasn't scared. Two hours later she passed on. I decided to look this up and I found all these post. I am curious.

I've seen this man twice, the first time was eight grade. I woke up in the middle of the night and decided to go get a glass of water. My dog followed me and when we got to the kitchen he ran to the glass door and was yapping. That wasn't like him, he never barked after dark unless something was wrong. I opened the door to let him out and this tall shadow in a wide brim hat stepped right up to me. He startled me, but I wasn't afraid. He just looked at me for a few minutes, turned around, walked off and vanashed. The next day at school we found out one of my closest friends ODed. The second time I saw this man was the morning my mom died. I woke up to the feeling of him setting on my bed. It was broad daylight. He just stared in my general direction, no face. And then just stood up and walked outta my room. My aunt came home and told me thirty minutes later my mom was gone. I saw him at the exact time my mom coded, I looked at the clock when I awoke.
I feel his porpose is to let your passing family and friends know that all is well. Kinda helps them on to their next journey.

One of my daughters has had the same experience with this dark figure with the hat. But hers is accompanied by a large black wolf-like dog. She first saw them when we moved into this house nine years ago. She was about eight years old at the time. She was so frightened that she literally ran out of the house through our sliding screen door. She knocked it right off the track! The good news is she never saw them again, until now. She is now 17 and saw them a couple days ago. She is the only one who has seen them. Do these spirit guides forewarn a death in the family? Shortly after the first siting, my grandfather died. Now my father is extremely sick with cancer. Could this be why they come around? Is his time near?

This black hat man has been seen all over the world. Many family memebers of mine have seen him too, my mother seen him twice as a little girl and as a adult. In Puerto Rico they call him the Baron of the Cemetary. Some see him physicaly or in their dreams. I do not know what is his purpose! I just find it all strange, that people can see the same man around the whole world. I have done research, and found many stories online of the black hat man. I have even met people without telling them about the black hat man, and they would describe the black hat man.

i'm seventeen and I have the same problem. I think the best thing to do is just ignore it. But last night, I freaked out... Cried and prayed million times. I saw him and I felt like he was in my face just looking at me... Never touching me tho. He jsut scares me.

No I haven't lost anyone recently Granny... But others have come to me for guidance and comfort when they lost someone... Yah I believe the man in the trench coat is a guide of some sort... Because if he meant me any harm it would be in a very very scary way... His presence was a shocker more than anything... And my sister seen two men... One tall and one short at the same time but different homes... So there is definately a significant meaning to these spirits. ❤ love and light ❤

gemmagic: LOL that was Gene Kelly! 😆...But I understand the hat...It's called a "Fedora"...It doesn't match the kind of hat I see, but again, it's a common description...

I'm glad you don't get any bad vibes from him, like so many others do...

I hold the opinion the these "hat men" are watchers of sorts... They keep an eye on someone for another spirit or entity that perhaps doesn't have the ability, for what ever reason, to manifest themselves... Just my opinion, but it's the only link in the chain that makes sense... Have you recently lost a loved one or close friend?... ❤

Granny the hat was black... With a brim on it... Kinda like the one Frank Sinatra wore when he sang Singing in the rain... Or the Movie Men in Black... And Miracles... I feel its a spirit guide for some reason... Not sure... But I was able to move when I saw him...

Gemmagic - I've been talking to other people, one who is a friend of mine and granny's, just checking to see if I can find someone else who has seen this man.

I'm trying to find a pattern of sorts. At first I thought it might be the trauma in a young teen girl's life that brought him around. If that was the case, though, I think every 14 year old girl would see him LOL!

I'm not sure that's it, but I'm going to continue looking for answers.

Granny - I actually had forgotten about your son's experience with the man in black until you mentioned him. And I'm not talking about Johnny Cash 😆

gemmagic: The guy in the trenchcoat and hat seems to be a common sighting... For me, and I think MOST people, the sightings happen during episodes of sleep paralysis... This is when he seems menacing, but I really don't know if it's the panic from not being able to move, or his appearance that's so frightening... Maybe it's the combination of the two...

My son had an experience recently while waiting for a bus after work, in a not so nice area of town...However, the other people at the bus-stop witnessed him also, so he could have been just a mumbling homeless guy! LOL 😆...

Can you describe the type of hat?...I'm curious as to whether or not our descriptions match... Miracles will confirm the description of mine, since I've talked with her about him...

gemmagic37 - thank you for answering my question. I showed this to my daughter who told me today that she saw a similar man again this week. She's not sure if this is the same one or not.

My daughter's dad died when she was 14. It was approximately 3-4 months after his death that she started seeing this man. He never scared her, but she knew that he knew she saw him. She said she never felt anything bad from him. Eventually she just stopped seeing him.

We live in Southern Ohio. I have to tell you something that my daughter and I noticed about your profile name. The nickname for my daughter's name is Gem. 😉

Maybe between the information in your story and the comments posted on here, there might be more people come forward who've experienced this man. I'd really like to know who my daughter saw and why.

I have woken up to this man, spirit or extraterrestrial being in a black trench coat with a hat. I'm still hopefully wondering if someone could answer my question on this encounter. So far my feelings are hes a spirit guide.

Miracles51031- Well at the time I was in Brookpark,Ohio. There have been other incidents in this house with other spirits. I no longer live there though. I have seen many different spirits in my life in different houses, and that includes my children who were at the age of toddlers to teenagers. I believe the man in the black trench coat and hat is a spirit guide from the other side, since me and my sister seen the same thing around the same time, it never harmed us. I am 14 years old & I've been shocked. Some time this month, I think it was the 8 or 10 of november, I was home alone & I fell asleep, I woke up & look at the clock on the tv, cause I was sleeping on the couch, it said 10:53 pm, it only seemed like 9 minutes later & my mom woke me up asking me a lot of questions, see I never saw it but my mom said she did, first she thought it was her mind palying tricks on her but she wasn't really sure. She was like, "were you really asleep?", What are you wearing?, I started to panic. When I asked her what was wrong shes like, when I pulled in the driveway, I happened to look between the couch were I was sleep & my moms doorway to her bedroom, right in the frame of the door, was a man in all black; I asked my mom if she saw a face & she said she didn't think so but, it didn't stay very long & it was hard to tell. When she looked at it, she said it looked like half of his body was in by the door & his hand & face were out around the frame of the door looking. I don't know if he was looking at me or not because I was asleep, but my mom said as soon as it saw her it left right sneaky. She said it walked but leaned close to the couch, kind of a fast swift sneaky walk so it wouldn't see her & went to our kitchen, my mom was shocked & never saw wear it went next. Just disappeared; my mom though I was fooling around with her but I was right dumbfouned, & tired when she woke me, also I was wearing a balck tee, but pink pjs. She also though it was my dad but my dogs would of barked if he was home, I honestly don't know if my dogs saw it & took off to my room but they weren't in the living room with me. I've thought about it since then & wondered if it happened to anyone else, & if my mom sees it, can I? & will we see it again? I'm doing so much research to find things out, I'm really interested, also I have a question? "The Man In Black" does he have a face? Or is it blurry? Does he have one at all? Also when the man in black is sighted does that mean a death in the family will happen or not? For you to see him is it a good thing or bad, or is he trying to tell you somthing? By the way, I would not care about this. Weird things had happened to me before, but now I am pregnant, and I had never seen this before.

My husband went out of country becuse of work, so now I am staying at my grandma home, with my aunts and my 2 golden retreiver dogs. This started one day when I heard my name and I waked up answering to the voice, but then I open my eyes and it was nothing, then next 3 days my dog stars barking to the corner of my bed I open my eyes and there he is a tall man with black hat and coat, I try to react and I stop seen him, but my dogs keeps barking, since yesterday my dog doesn't want to stay in the room with me anymore, so... I'm just too curious to know what's this?

gemmagic37 - I need to ask you a very important question. To me it is very important, so please, please respond. You were 14 when you saw this man in the black trench coat, right? You are from Ohio also. My daughter saw who I believe might be this same man or someone very similar when she was 14. She is now 18.

Oh, my question. Sorry, got lost there in memories for a second. What part of Ohio are you from? If you don't want to disclose the city, at least general area. I've been trying to figure this out for 4 years. Who he is and why she was the only one who saw him.
