You know what? I'm probably going to get blasted for this but right about now I just don't care.
It's time to back off the kid OK? It went from debate to something else, and to tell you the truth looks like it is starting to get to the bullying stage. So back it up man, it's not that big of a deal. Find somewhere else to vent. Do it on one of my stories if you want, just leave the kid be now, OK? 😐

I am still trying to understand why you said "I noticed some details off the uniform and kind of compared them to my dads old uniforms" if there was no actual comparision.

I also don't understand (of course I'm US military, not UK) how/why you lived in a barracks. Barracks are usually for cadre and Joes that don't want to live in base housing and/or off post housing. They are usually open squad bays for E6 and below (Army) and 1-4 man rooms for E-7 and up. Was this formerly a barracks and was rennovated and turned into base housing for families?

I've never really heard of militaries wearing uniforms of another country unless it's a tier 1 Special Forces group (Navy SEALS, SAS, DELTA being tier 1, while Green Berets are tier 2), and that's only in the theater of operation. So why would your father have worn an Egyptian uniform, unless he was Special Forces?

hi amibear just read your last comment here it takes a lot to admit you "lost your mind" but saying sorry will mean a lot.
Yes your young and that has to be taken into concideration and new to the ways of the web too. I know when I was your age I would feel like you did if I felt someone did not believe me but loosing it won't help you will learn as you go and this will have been a hard experiance to take but it will be remmbered for the next time, I'm not preaching even though sounds a bit like it, what I'm trying to say is well done for admitting "loosing it" and saying sorry.

i lived in an army barracks my house wasn't built on an old one and no I didn't think it was important what's important was what I saw. Which was an older man who seemed to be in a world war 1 uniform. Also I was tring to be calm but she wouldn't stop commenting so I did. I said that we are all entitled to our own opinions, that isn't offending. I'm simply stating that we have different vies and that's fair, then I thanked her for commenting anyway but she carried on and I got fed up. Yes I'm only 15 so why carry on when I said thankyou?

I'm going to leave this alone after this comment because it's become nothing more than a flame war of sorts.

The details from a WWI uniform as opposed to the modern uniform are very different. So either you added the part about comparing this WWI uniform to your dad's pointlessly, or you're implying that your father's uniform looked like a WWI uniform.

My issue here is the story at first was slightly credible and I most likely would have never said anything beyond "Hm, that's interesting" and moved on. Where I started having issues was when I was reading the comments and seeing that you went from recalling a situation to making assumptions based on no facts or education of any sort. The way you responded to Devious put me off a little since she wasn't attacking you or your story. Rather than trying to stay calm and explain the situation, you took to "we are all entitled to our own opinions", which is a very rude and dismissive comment toward someone trying to understand what you're going on about.

Let's move on to how you are playing games with your words: "I've never said I didn't live in an army barracks." You never said you did or didn't. The fact you never stated it up front says either you are adding it in to spice up your story (or simply put you made it up), you didn't think it was important, or you forgot. Details like that are very important to put in the story.

The floor plan you described at the beginning of your story and the "barracks" have no relation, so why bring them up? Was the place this event happened in a barracks? If so that needed to be stated up front. If not, there was no reason to bring up a barracks unless something related to this story happened in a barracks. Now, the other side of that is if the house was built where a barracks USED to be. That would be a reason to bring it up, but I can't imagine the military for any country tearing down barracks from WWI and putting up housing complexes. Then again I'm not familiar with the UK's ways. If in fact this house you lived in at the time was built where barracks used to be, I guarantee there was no cemetery there before. Joes are very superstitious.

If you notice, my first post on this story was a full blast assessment of what I had read. What you conveyed obviously sent the wrong idea because Devious and I seem to have taken things the same way.

You're 15, I'm 24. You're still in school, I've graduated the school of "Hard Knox" (Ft. Knox, KY). I'm a huge fan of war history. Anything I don't know I'll look up. Common sense is key here.

amibear I'm not saying this did not happen I would not but I understand the comments you have receved for your story and taking your age into account can I sugest a few things,
1 try to add a bit more detail to your posts like how you knew the uniform was WW1,
2 if someone questions something in the story don't answer in such an angry tone, that will make people think your covering something up.
3 try taking a step back read the story through 3,4 or 5 times before posting and see if it all "makes sense" and would not confuse the reader.
4 finaly if your not sure how to write your story read a few of the other posts on here yes some are short but will give details that matter obviously you know what you want to say but some times it sounds odd
Like " I fell asleep for about an hour but then the film on tv finished so I just laid there" what woke you up? Again I'm not cussing your story but a few small details help.

One last thing RELAX even if your post does not get comments on the first moment its on here does not mean its not being read some people just read them and don't comment give it time yes its exciting to get comments some won't be good but you have to accept people will have opinions and they will say what they think that's how these sites work.

Now you're back peddling. There is NO comparison from modern military uniforms to those of WWI era. Like I said, most of the stuff from WWI was phased out before WWII started. Either you're a horrible liar or you have no concept of compiling a story to tell people. Your ability to convey a concept is terrible and thus people don't believe you because IT DOESN'T MAKE SENSE. I suggest you seriously contemplate your stories before you tell them. Delivery is huge in a situation like this, and again I still think you're trying to C Y A.

Sounds like this kid should research the old house thoroughly. She might just have trouble communicating her thoughts clearly and several theories have gone through her mind over time. I can see from the comment chain that she at least seems willing to respond to comments challenging her story - even if her read and story post are sloppy on the details.

Amibear, if you are still reading and you believe that this truly did happen to you, research the hell out of the old property for your own edification. I've *just* been looking into this myself. Research deed histories and get names and dates from there. At that point, you can do research on the actual people and events surrounding the house. I understand that it can be a tedious process, but if you truly *are* interested, do that. And definitely, if you post, clarify your stories as much as possible. Edit and re-edit, so that people can get the gist of what you think actually happened to you and what you actually saw. I think that will help people to help you. In any case, good luck.

Alright kiddo, I have held my tongue long enough. By your explanation of the uniform being a 1914 WWI uniform I can tell you your math and logic is HORRIBAD. Assuming I believe your father wore a 1914 WWI uniform, he'd have been born in 1898 (being 16 when he went to war). So he'd be about 113 right now. You being 15 would mean when you were born he'd have been 98. I don't think the UK would let someone 113 serve in the military any more. So I throw the BS flag on that account.

Let's move to the uniforms. NO PART OF THE WWI UNIFORM IS STILL IN SERVICE FOR ANYONE WHO PARTICIPATED. I think that sums that issue up. They retired most of that uniform before WWI. By 2000 (you would have been 4) the US Military had BDUs and DCUs, while the British/English used the CS95s (aka DPMs from my research).

See... I'm meaner than someone like Devious. I'll point out the HUGE holes in your story and point blank call you a liar (a bad one at that!). If you can clarify to me those "little" issues I might believe you... But I doubt it. I don't believe your story, and I believe you're nothing more than a kid looking for attention with a CLEARLY fabricated story. Don't insult people's intelligence. Especially people here.

No, I'm just trying to prove that none of this is based on fact and you're telling a fancy story to get attention from a community of people who have REAL problems and experiences.

The fact of the matter is, you were an 8 year old kid with a wild imagination and I really doubt you saw what you said you did. If you did, great, then why should you care what I have to say? You were so desperate to get comments that you had to spam everyone's stories, so there you go, now you have a whole lot of them.

Plus put two and two together and figure when I said that my dad was and still is in the army I would automatically assume that if the person has said other wise this meant that they might livein an army barracks, just a thought.
I wouldn't kick off to someone like this over a point of view and I'm trying to be as polite as I can be but I don't know what else to say because your obviously set out to make me feel stupid for thinking when I was 8 that a some soldiers from world war 1 may have been buried there,

"To this day I have never forgot exactly how he looked"

Obviously you have.

"so when your 8 years old rumours just go around considering we all knew we were living somewhere with army things going on whether it be loads of years ago to recently our parents were always going to war"

Uh huh. So you're 15 years old now, what's your excuse for still believing in rumors told when you were 8 years old?
Amibear (3 stories) (62 posts)

14 years ago (2011-03-01)
uhm yeah there's major differences but all I said was I noticed 'little'things. Just remember that. Anyway I said it could have been something like that, I liked in that house until I was about 8 and moved to the house where I am now, so when your 8 years old rumours just go around considering we all knew we were living somewhere with army things going on whether it be loads of years ago to recently our parents were always going to war so that's what I meant. We all had our own little stories and we put them together and they kind of stuck, no one ever told us differently so we all just thought that omg, maybe that might actually be true...

You never said you DID live in a barracks, either. Why would you assume that the military would deface soldier graves by building a barracks on top of the bodies of dead soldiers?

The differences between the WWI uniform and the Army BDUs were um... More than minor differences, and I would venture to say substantial. Compare:

World War I olive drabs

Army BDUs which were in use in the 1990s until 2007.

Wow, um. Minor similarities?

1) I've never said I didn't live in an army barracks.
2) all I said was some minor details, the rest of the stuff I figured through 10 years worth of history lessons and when I told my mum about what the ghost looked like, she told me it sounded like a 1914's WWI uniform, as did my dad, and anyway my family has a long history of being in the army so I've obviously seen pictures and stuff of my family members aspecieally of my great grandads side.

Wait, so you're saying your dad's uniform looked like the WWI uniform? Sorry but I'm not buying it. Ten years ago the Army was using standard-issue BDUs which look nothing like the WWI uniform. My belief in this story is rapidly diminishing. First you assumed without any factual evidence that your house was built on top of a WWI burial ground, now you're saying it was in a barracks. I think you might want to get your facts straight.

I agree with DeviousAngel. Maybe your house was built on the ground where a battle took place, which could be the reason for the activity. Wow you were a pretty lucky 6 year old. Getting to stay up late watching movies must have been great.

I'm a little apprehensive about believing stories when people beg for comments so much. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt here... Perhaps you saw this gentleman. Obviously you've done your research if you've pinpointed down to what era and exact year his uniform came from. What I'm curious about is how you have come to the conclusion that your house was built on top of a WWI burial ground? I seriously doubt that the community would let that happen. I know lots of places are built over graves but WWI veterans are generally buried in memorial cemeteries funded by the states. I suppose I could be wrong but I know if I were a relative of one of those veterans, I would be in court filing a lawsuit.

The first ghost encounter is the one that will stay with you forever. My first was around 6 years old also. I would look at it as a special occurance you saw this ghost. I do not get a fear from your story and I doubt he was there trying to scare or harm you. He was more likely wondering around and it may have been something he does on a regular interval called residual hauntings. If you are still in the house, look for other signs of activity. Good luck and thanks for sharing your story.
