Thank you all for reading. Shane, I'm certain I wasn't asleep, or even in a hypnogogic state. Usually the kind of activity I get when I lay down is clairaudient experiences. I understand that our brain waves change even as we begin to relax in bed, which makes things more conducive to visitation/communication. Please believe that I am neither a dummy on this stuff nor am I prone to flights of fancy about it... While I DO believe in ghosts and such, I try to find rational sources for strange occurrences first. I definitely couldn't find one for this experience, hence my post here.

Kim, thank you, and I'm sure that this brings results or comfort to some, but as a Wiccan...well, you get the picture. I've smudged the house entirely and put protective symbolism on doors and windows. I've also done the 'white light' cleansing of the house.

Ohiowatha, I first consulted a buddhist friend of mine who is also a Reiki master... He suggested that it was as I thought, some ancient, but lower-level entity. He has said that he has encountered a couple of these 'things' before, and he suggested that I picture it in my mind and mentally shatter the image, like a piece of glass.

It was just such a strange happening that I had to find a place where knowledgeable, competent, and understanding folks might gather to tell the tale to.

With all due respect, how is it known that "lower level entities" are able to shape-shift? Is this a common enough occurrence that it's become common knowledge that there (A) are levels of entities, (B) the lower of them can shape-shift, and (C) they respond to/respect Judeo-Christian dogma? That is, would I have similar luck eradicating such intrusions using something from Hindu or Buddhist texts, for example?

Again, I am not criticising your encounter at ALL. I merely am interested the background information on such "spirits" and in modes of dealing with them.

Wow, this is truly terrifying. I am sure if you will read through some of the stories on this sight, you will find many frightening. Strange encounters.

Regardless of what you thought it was, I would think the first step is to protect yourself and home. Place a cross (at least one) in your bed room. Place a Bible near your bed, if you see this 'thing' again, in any form it should choose to take, read from the Bible, tell it in the name of God it is not welcome near you or in your home.

If this does not fall within your belief system, there are wonderful smudge ceremonies posted in this site as well as the use of crystals.

Lower level entities are able to take on any shape that they wish. I just wonder what this one was up too. Not to sound disbelieving but you are certain you were completely awake. No possiblity that you could have been having a lucid dream? By telling us your story you are well on your way to feeling normal again. Being able to tell others of your experiences without being ridiculed is a big step and one that I am glad you choose to take. Thanks for sharing your story with us.
