Red,
We have learned something in my Family... It seems we are a 3 cat Family... No matter when the older ones pass and no matter how much we say (and mean it LoL) we are NOT getting another cat we are only going to have one... We end up with 3. Ah, it is what it is.
Your home sounds as if it has a 4 dog MAX limit. So I see at least 1 Pup in your future if not more. They know you love them... And that's what matters to them most... Well that and FOOD. 😉
Thanks for sharing... May peace be with you.
Respectfully,
Rook

Okay I will start with the tissue warning. Jethro (Bodine from the Beverly Hillbillies, not Jethro from NCIS) is the youngest of 4 dogs. Cali is 8,Zim is 11, and D will be 13 next month. D has arthritis in his back legs and many fatty tumors, one of which is starting to grow under his front leg which if gets too larged he will have to be euthanized. He doesn't lay down he flops down. Zim ruptured the tendon in his right rear leg years ago but it was able to be fixed. When he was 8 or 9 he started holding his right rear leg up. I was like here we go again. I took him to the vet, he did an x-ray and said that he just stretched out the tendon, we both agreed that he was too old for surgery. Now every time he runs around he limps. He's a porker, way over weight. We give him diet food but he but he gets table scraps and dog biscuits. Both of them have only about a year or two left. That leaves only Cali unless we get another puppy.
Which we will when we heal.
Thank you all for your kind comments... God bless you all.
Regards

Red, thanks for letting us know he has made his transition, and his pain is gone. I really like your prodding crew. Man, having a grandfather and father-in-law to guilt me into doing things from beyond could get old... 😊 I hope everyone at your house is moving through the grieving process. My heart aches for the other furry family members. We lost a 12 year old kitty last August. It was months before one of the others stopped jumping up at every sound. Sending you all hugs during this difficult time.

Thanks for sharing this heart wrenching story Red. I really feel for you and am sorry for the loss of your much loved Jethro. It's lovely knowing he has some of your family members to take care of him on the other side. ❤

For about 7 years we had 5 dogs. I found out my town allows only 4 dogs but we didn't worry about it. Then we had to put a dog down and my husband asked me to keep it to 4 because of the expense of food and vet bills.
Jethro was great though because of my severe scoliosis (put a hump on my right shoulder and call me Quasi Moto). Jethro would follow me to make sure I was okay. He would even lay by the bath room door when I was in the shower until I came out. If he could he would go everywhere with me.
He was a very loud barker and would bark for table scaps. I can't get used to the quiet at dinner time. There's a lot of things I miss about him and there is quite a large whole in my heart. I know he is with my grandfather because all dogs love him.
My father in-law might have left the vet but didn't leave my house yet. He has not made himself clear about what he wants. But will come out in time
Regards
