SDS,that's exactly what I meant. The subconscious picks up things our conscious, "rational" mind ignores.

Hello matrix899, welcome to YGS first. It is really a nice experience that you had. I agree with you and Tweed that somehow the woman had some control over you when you tried to see her face and I feel that she didn't want you to see that. May be its that your subconscious mind was also not willing to see her face and it had some control over your conscious efforts. Well I think that is what Mimi meant too.
It is going to my favs.
Thanks for sharing.
Regards and respects to you.

Mimi, thanks for your well wishes. I am an avid biker and ride a variety of bike trails in central Florida, but this local trail is one that I ride most often. Riding through the cemetery had become a habit because I enjoy doing that. But, as mentioned, I make a conscious effort to be respectful.

Tweed, Your comment about "practicing interacting in the physical realm" is interesting.
Until this experience I took it for granted that when people saw ghosts, and the ghost was moving, the movement would be similar to the movements of any normal living human.
I cannot recall ever reading someone's detailed description of the movement of the ghost they saw, so I always took it for granted that the movement was normal.
But now, having seen this "woman" in the cemetery, the absence of movement of the body demanded attention. But I have to admit that unless you took the time to observe her, you may not notice that something was wrong.
I do remember shoes, but all I recall was very pointed shoes, the type that women wear. The corduroy pants was long to the ground, covering up the heel part of the shoes, so I did not get a sense for how high the heels were. Anyway, I only glanced at the shoes.
If your tranny theory is correct, and she was wearing very high heels, this may help explain the stillness of the body. Somewhat like someone walking a tightrope. But the whole thing still seems very strange. Why the complete absence of any movement of the body. But I guess we are attempting to analyze the characteristics of a ghost or apparition. A complete unknown.

Matrix, there's something about this person's demeanour that pings me as a 'practice run'. This ghost was able to remain completely solid and the only bizarre thing about them was their movement, or lack of. Did you get a look at their shoes? Some huge heels might account for the extra height. If they're a tranny, I wonder if they were practicing walking in high shoes, or moving in them at least. Sort of learning to do it again as a ghost. All the while concentrating on remaining visually solid throughout.
There's a question that runs through the tranny community: "Do I pass?" Which means "Do I pass as a woman out in public?". What it really means is 'do I look gorgeous or tragic in this?'. With this in mind, it's probably pretty important for a transvestite to get this 'right' as a ghost, as they had done in life. Which *might* account for him not wishing to be looked at a) it would break his concentration at remaining solid if he was inexperienced at being solid and b) he may not have felt ready and felt self conscious because of this.
Also the location. If I wanted to practice something out in public as a ghost, I'd probably choose a cemetery to do it too.
As for the dated fashion, it's really hard to say. If it was a man, well, transvestites wear whatever they want, many don't exactly stick to what's in fashion!
Tranny or otherwise, whoever this person was, it feels to me like they were practicing interacting in the physical realm. Got to admire their dedication!

Matrix, that's very interesting what you said about the spirit getting her image wrong. I had never thought about that being a possibility. Something to think about.
I hope riding in the cemetery continues to be a pleasant experience for you. It does sound like you're going out of your way to be respectful.

Hello Tweed, Mimi, Samtillie,
Thank you for your input, you certainly gave me some things to think about. Tweed, yes, the height of this "woman" certainly stood out. One could not help but notice how unusually tall this "woman" was. I did not consider that this may have been a man, but one of the thoughts that occurred to me was that she got the height wrong, and she got the corduroy active wear wrong. People stopped wearing those a long time ago.
What I mean by this is: she had to create an image, and she got the two things wrong. Of course this is nothing more than speculation.
Not looking at her face after I had made the decision to ride by her and look at her face, was a strange experience that I pondered after the experience. Nothing like that has ever happened to me.
Tweed, your fourth paragraph contains much food for thought. This experience has amplified my curiosity about the paranormal, and many thoughts went through my head in an effort to try and understand this experience. For example: what are the chances of ever seeing this "woman" again? Do they need to accumulate a certain type of energy to make an appearance like this? And, of course, I could not help thinking about the afterlife and what it may be like. I suppose we all think about this at one time or another.
Believe it or not, after thinking about the experience, I felt a certain degree of sympathy for this "woman". It seems that all she wanted was to take a walk without being bothered. Then someone like me comes along and notices that something is not quite right.
With regard to continuing to ride through this cemetery, I would hate to stop riding there. I love going through this cemetery, because I love the peaceful feeling and beautiful setting. As a matter of fact, I often get off the bike and walk on the way out to enjoy the peaceful setting. I do make a conscious effort to be respectful by never riding or walking on the grass, not lingering too long, and generally being respectful. So, it would be hard to avoid riding through this cemetery.

Tweed, I'm glad you haven't had a bad cemetery experience. I think most people would view it the way you do.
Just like you, I'm basing my opinion on my experiences. I stand by my statement that using a cemetery as a bike or walking trail is not a good idea.

Mimi, as a kid who was a) sensitive to ghosts and b) practically grew up in a funeral parlour, I must disagree with what you're saying based on experience.
There were three main cemeteries I used to play in, one huge one in a major city, the other two smaller ones. Together with countless others. We never had any problems at all! Quite the contrary, they were all very peaceful places. People would walk through, some with dogs, people would even be meditating there. Cemeteries are public places. Riding a bike through one is a pretty standard daily occurrence.
Add to all this I used to play in coffins, muck around in the hearses. I'd seen more corpses than cartoons by the time I hit kindergarten. But nothing bad ever happened. Unless you count some very disturbed kindergarten teachers, but they don't count!
A walk in the cemetery is like a walk in the park, don't stress it!

Samtillie, I've never heard of a cemetery guardian menacing someone visiting the graves of loved ones. However, I do know of instances where guardians or other spirits have strongly objected to individuals using a cemetery as part of a walk or bike ride. It can be a most unpleasant experience. Why take a chance?

Tweed, I never said Matrix had seen a cemetery guardian. I mentioned guardians as something separate from Matrix's experience.
I was giving my opinion that cemeteries are probably not the best idea for biking or walking spots.

Hi, I absolutely agree with Tweed, I love your story too. I just wanted to say that I thought that a Cemetery Guardian is the first person to be laid to rest in the cemetery... I maybe wrong, this is what I read many years ago. I would also continue to ride your bike there, there us no reason to stop. If cemeteries were a place of menacing spirits, no one would ever visit their loved ones. Also what an intriguing height! That's tall for a lady. Thank you for sharing, I hope you see her again, if you do please let us know ❤

Hi there Matrix,
Well I thoroughly enjoyed your experience, it's going straight to my faves list! As very bizarre as this may sound I 'know' what you mean about the strobe effect, and the moving without any discernible effort or natural rhythm. However for some reason I just can't place where or when I know this from. I suspect I must be relating it to a dream. Well anyway, I feel like I know what you're talking about with her movements.
You are clearly very perceptive to have gathered so much information about this apparition! I agree this individual was somehow able to control you not looking at her face and that she had some control over your decision not to turn back for another attempt to glimpse her face.
Just want to address something Mimi said about a cemetery guardian who wanted you gone. Errm, no I disagree on this occasion. I agree cemeteries likely have guardians but I don't think this was one. Cemetery guardians are likely nature spirits, but this is my opinion only. I feel you should continue riding your bike through there, it sounds like a great riding location after all!
This individual's appearance, think about it, perfect white hair which looks too perfect to be real. Approximate height 6ft4 wearing dark pink corduroy active attire. This is most intriguing. All of this together with her ability, or our assumed ability of her, to will you not to look or turn back a second time I believe are the key to her nature.
I'd like to quote a sentence from you, because I think deep down something in you *knows* exactly what/who you saw. You said, directly after describing this individual's appearance:
"I only saw her from the back, and her white hair gave the appearance of a woman."
This really, really, really, sounds like a transvestite to me ('cross dresser' someone who inhabits the traits of the opposite gender while still identifying as their physical gender, in this case a man) I think transvestite because of the perfect hair and what, he made you *feel*.
My translation:
"Don't look at me, you wouldn't understand, and I'm in no mood for questions today!"
I don't believe this means the individual has low self esteem, but that he possibly just wanted to be left alone with his thoughts. Maybe even practice manifesting in the graveyard who knows!
Just to clear a few details:
Transvestites are people who embody the traits of the opposite gender, while identifying as their physical gender, in this example a man.
Transgender people identify as one gender only, the opposite to what they were assigned at birth.
The two are completely different.
I've known a few transvestites over the years, they're awesome. I really feel this explains the appearance of who you saw. Why he was moving in such a way is completely baffling, I'd love to know what was going on there!
Love love love this story, thanks for sharing!

Mimi81, thanks for the insight. "it sounds like your brain was telling you not to look." I had not considered this.
Your advise about "guardians" has made me re-consider my biking route. Thanks again.

Cemeteries can be tricky. They can be hot spots of paranormal activity. However, they can also have a lot of residual activity. All of the emotions associated with funerals and visiting graves can leave a huge emotional imprint on a site.
I don't know if you saw a ghost or a residual image. I suspect it was a ghost because it sounds like your brain was telling you not to look.
I hope you don't mind, but I just have to give my unsolicited opinion about something. Cemeteries often have "guardians". They seem to protect the cemetery. Some don't like people casually visiting and can get nasty about it. You might want to reconsider riding through it.
