Rook, they were teens. A Tuesday in July wouldn't be a school night; it's summertime.
Also, tons of adults party late on the night of the 4th, weeknight or no. More than one place I've worked just gave up and gave people both the 4th and 5th off, knowing how sketchy attendance would be on the 5th. Lol

Well yes there is...errr...ummmm 'cough,cough'...that small detail. ๐ฒ
Still...an all night party on a Tuesday? I get that the 4th was a holiday... A paid one for most people... But Tuesday the 5th? Workday at a minimum...
Respectfully,
Rook

It is still possible that this was a 'time or dimentional slip'...IF it happened...BUT
RedWolf you got me thinking about 'time' when you mentioned the 'TV show' that remeinded you of this 'story'...well I checked a Calendar and guess what the 5th of July was ten years ago, it was a TUESDAY... A 'WORK OR SCHOOL NIGHT... And while a week-end 4th of July Party may carry over from say a Friday July 4th into a Saturday July 5th Party... AND may even stretch into the very wee hours of Sunday July 6th... I find it hard to believe that it was happening on a Tuesday night.
Please look it up for yourselves... July 5th 2005 (ten years ago) was a Tuesday.
(I may not be helping spread a Blankie (not just yet... Waiting on the O/P)...but I think Redwolf has directed attention to where this one now has a fence to watch any possible developments from).
Respectfully,
Rook

The problem I have with this story is the line you where headed to a house party at 3 am. It just doesn't ring true, I can see being at and leaving s house party around that time but I don't think anyone would be headed to a party at that time. It just makes the whole story sound "off".

Miracles,
Do me a favor and remove my posts on this story. Obviously my opinions mean little. It's okay for other members to pull out the B.S. Blankie but when I do I get criticized by other members including you and Rook. I should have taken my doctors advice and stayed off the computer. But I got bored, with surgery pending I figured this would take my mind off of it by coming on my favorite site, but if all I am going to do is get upset which is a big no no because I have enough stress in my life which raises my B.P. And will push back my surgery. But like I said God forbid I pull out the B.S. Blankie because I KNOW I've seen this story before on T.V. A long time ago. I will keep my account open and if I feel like being a silent reader which will make certain members happy I will. Maybe one day I'll come back after my surgery. Right now I have to worry about my health. Screws are trying to come out of the skin. To my friends I'm sorry, be well.

Hi Chria,
I wondered if what you encountered was residual and that the homes boarded up were the result of a natural disaster sometime in history. If this is the case it might explain a man checking his mail in the middle of the night. Whilst doing stuff like hauling belongings to wherever his emergency accommodation was.
Not sure if it's any use but I found a listing of natural disasters to hit North Carolina. Not much online about Scotland Neck in particular unfortunately, but being a tiny town maybe that's asking too much.

RedWolf - I got your point about the cell but apparently you missed mine. Maybe they didn't have service where they were. Or maybe they didn't feel like they needed to call anyone. Getting lost is a whole lot different than being in danger. And to me this story sounds like something a lot of girls would do LOL
We'll leave this to the o/p if she feels she should defend her story. I don't think she does, but that's my opinion.

My point is they didn't call anybody and they were lost. I know from experience also teenage girls are going to do what they want. But this story sounds like it came out of Goosebumps. My sister ran away twice to California just a few months before she was 15. First she ran away by bus the with her friend. The second time she hitch hiked across country in big rigs. It was my second half of my Senior Year of High School. It's a miracle I graduated because my father thought I knew where she was and everytime we were alone he would yell at me asking me where she was. To make matters worse we looked like twins and one time I was behind the High School having a cigarette and saw the police so I told my friend that I had to go back into the school before they picked me up thinking I was her. Well they circled around and started questioning me, I told them I was her sister gave them my name and I told them to talk to the Principal to prove who I was I had to get to class. Finally she called home overdosing in a Mall in San Diego. My mother told my father to keep her calm on the phone so she could run to a neighbors house and call my Aunt and Uncle in San Diego. But he started freaking out on her so I had to grab the phone from him and calm her down and keep her talking so she wouldn't pass out from the drugs. Thankfully my Aunt and Uncle lived only about 15 minutes from the mall and called the Police and Ambulance and met them there. My mother had to stay in San Diego until she went to family court. The Judge asked my mother why if she had 3 older children who never got into trouble why would she was the fourth acting up and she had a fifth at home that wasn't doing well in school. You aren't going to believe her answer. She said after her third (me) she just gave up. The Judge ordered counseling for my sister and my parents and my mother hung ALL of the family problems on my father but didn't tell the counselor about her alcoholism. I had been put into group therapy a couple of years prior because I wasn't doing well in school and didn't want a beating for telling the school counselor about her drinking.
I know this is long and I'm sorry. I apologize to the O/P for putting this on her story line.

Chria, Rook and aussiedaz both have excellent theories about what you and your friends experienced. Is there anyway for you to research that particular area?
I really enjoyed your story. Thank you for sharing it with us.

RedWolf - speaking from experience, teenage girls don't always tell their parents where they're going. And they don't always call their parents when they're out, if they have cell reception. I must have missed the part where she talked about not having a cell, or calling her parents ๐
And the man could have just come home from work, not just a party ๐

Somethings don't ''ring true'' for me.
Up until you had your ''encounter'' you were a skeptic. Up until that point you were a just a somewhat normal teenage girl, always curious, always looking for an adventure. Translation, always looking for something to do and not get into trouble for doing it.
Out of nowhere a clear July night all of a sudden became cloudy and we were surprised to see several houses boarded up just a few feet from the road we were driving on. The really weird part was a man or what looked like a man was checking his mail at 3 A.M... Did you ever think that he possibly was just getting home from a party that he went to straight from work?
The whole thing spooked you all out especially a creepy church that seemed to be in the midst of the fog.
As you turned around everything was gone. The houses the man everything but the creepy looking church. How could only the church remain? There had to be houses or businesses in the area.
This is where I really am unconvinced this ever happened. What parent is going to let their teenage daughter go to a party at 3A.M.? Cell phones existed 10 years ago, none of you had one? I DON'T believe THAT for a minute.
Sorry to everyone who read this story. What really made me think this is not paranormal is these girls didn't have cell phones. Also their parents let them go to a party at 3 in the morning without knowing where the party was and neither did any of the girls. Would any of us on here allow this? My guess is no. Happy Halloween

Your not wrong Chria, these type's of accounts will convert a sceptic overnight or force you to make an appointment with a psychiatrist, I have been nearly obsessed researching them and a plausible cause since my own account some years ago. I could offer you three or four different theories, but the most solid one primarily relates to string theory and M theory. According to both, there are 11 Dimensions and countless parallel universe's out there in the greater consciousness system and in my view, there is a difference. Parallel universes are concurrent where body, mind and soul are functioning as a living unit in a 3D universe with space and time. Sometimes these multiverse's mesh together and you may see a doppelgรคnger and other unfamiliar surroundings for a short period of time and when these particles from different realities untangle... They disappear out of sight and out of mind. With a dimensional slip, which is also possible, it would be more on par with a residual haunting or a intelligent one?.IMO, When we die, we move into the fourth dimension and unfortunately for some... They can't free their mind from their previous life and basically construct there own materialistic reality of which can at times... Mesh into our reality and this man collecting the mail, would be the source of the creation I would surmised you and your friends witnessed. One question, did the man collecting the mail acknowledge your presence at all?

[at] Darkangel a iddy biddy small town called Scotland Neck. It was out in the middle of nowhere though so we won't in city... I mean village (it's literally that small) limits.

Hello,
Dimensional slip? The first thing that came to my mind was a residual haunting. But dimensional slip is another good explanation - even a better one than a residual.

Chria29- That is a interesting story, what part of NC did this happen in? Rookdygin- I was thinking the same thing about a dimensional slip.

Hi Rook, I had the same thinking. I went further to think if it could have been something like Philadelphia Experiment as vividly explained by Charles Bertliz in his famous book.
Chria29, an interesting experience. But still, as far as paranormal is concerned, the 3 a.m., stuff has got nothing to do with anything evil or negative or even paranormal. Just saying it because some persons in this site are linking 3 a.m., to witch-hour, which is not so.
Regards and respects to you.

What comes to mind here is a possible 'time or diminsional slip'.
I have an experience posted that is along the lines of this...
No fog involved but 'seeing or feeling' a building (s) that are not there...priceless. ๐
Respectfully,
Rook
