The orbs are actually quite fascinating. Interesting that you experienced the same phenomenon.

Apparently orange orbs signify protection, safety, comfort. That's what google says anyway! Strangely enough, Tweed did ask whether I thought that Vic might be a protective spirit. He might have been looking after me for a while? That's a good thought. I did in fact go through a few tough times.

The ones you saw at your client's house were possibly also there in a protective capacity. Just the thought of it is comforting 😊

Hi Melda - I thought I would answer you here instead of on Mandee's account. Please don't think I thought you were trying to debunk my theory on the apparition of Dusty. I just wanted to make sure what I was trying to convey was clear.

I did read the account of your ghost Vic and enjoyed it very much. It provides another great example of an apparition not being able to speak when it seems to want to. I have read of many, many cases where an apparition seems frustrated when it seems to suddenly realize that it doesn't have the ability to speak. Of course there are, rarer, cases where apparitions do indeed speak. It all seems to come down to ability. Maybe for some spirits the ability to transmit the spoken word is easier than for others. It also seems likely that "speaking" apparitions are almost certainly telepathic. The voice transmitted "mind to mind" with no need of a larynx.

I did have a comment about the orange orbs you witnessed intermingling and separating by your bathroom window. At a customers house my wife and I used to stay at regularly, I saw on multiple occasions a similar phenomenon. We stayed in the master bedroom which had a long hallway lined with mirror fronted closets that led to a bathroom. Usually in the middle of the night these little orange orbs would appear and do exactly what you described. They seemed to be in the bathroom and they would make brief forays into the little hallway. They would cast reflections in the mirrors.

After these orbs appeared on several occasions I started closing the bathroom door at night and then never saw them again. I think the orbs I saw were associated with our customer's father who had just died. Seems quite possible that your orbs were connected to Vic. Really cool to find another person who has seen these flitting little orbs.

Tweed - Sorry, I forgot to respond to your comment about the thread being confusing. Coming in on the tail end it must be horribly confusing 😆

It started off on this thread, with the suggestion that Vic was searching for a treasure map to go hunting for the Kruger millions, then it continued on "Biter" by EmmalineTexas and eventually found its way back here again. Now I don't know whether we're going to hunt for the Kruger millions or if we're off to go searching for sunken galleons 😁

Crazy stuff that just occasionally happens on YGS.

Tweed - How nice to hear from you. You have been silent for far too long!

You raise a very interesting point about protective spirits. I don't know whether I could describe Vic as such but from the contact that I had with him over the years and the "feeling" he exuded, I would definitely describe him as a good guy. He actually ignored me most of the time and concentrated on my husband's closet. I also believe he was responsible for a few more activities, like the TV or radio sounds coming from the lounge plus another incident (which I didn't mention).

I did give him a telling off every now and then, as you would have read in my account but there was definitely nothing nasty about him.

As far as beliefs regarding protective spirits in Africa are concerned, there would be a number. The native South African tribes of course tend to call on their ancestors. There are probably more tribal beliefs but the white community tends to follow western beliefs.

As far as I personally am concerned, yes I do ask for protection around my house and I do say words to the effect that "if you're good you can stay, if you're bad you're not welcome". I've done that for years because as I child I was terrified of these entities that seemed to latch on to me. In retrospect, they were probably not all bad but to a child a ghost is a very scary thing!

I know you emptied my pool, I could hear sounds of thunder and splashing. I thought we were having a huge storm, which turned out not to be the case. It was definitely not lady-glow and her cougars.

By the way, thanks for clearing the city of criminals. The downward trend of criminal activities in the area has been reported on the local news. If only I could notify the media of the true situation but I don't think anybody will believe me. I'll send for you again soon.

Hi Melda,

Are there any entities in your culture whose role it is to protect women? Or have you ever said a prayer of protection or meditation or some such which might evoke a protective spirit?
I ask because this reminded me somewhat of your encounter with the young boy in that both gave you comfort.
I don't mean to imply that Vic is anything other than a human ghost, rather there seems to be something about your home or you specifically which enables protective spirits to find their way in. A good thing I should think. 😊

Firstly, I'm now Eco friendly, I only eat 'bad guys' and will eat ghost nachos only in an emergency, like propelling the Black Sparrow.

Aunty Melda, I did not empty your pool but I did see a glowing lady leading a pack of cougars in that direction.

Yes well Vic has been and gone and I've become accustomed to life without him, just as I grew accustomed to life with him 😊 I'm very happy for his sake that he has now moved on. I only hope he hasn't starting haunting elsewhere - I want him to be at peace.

What he was searching for in the cupboard only he knew. I asked him but of course no response. Then again, he wasn't open to any conversation. Truth to tell, neither was I actually, although I asked a few questions and tried to tell him to cross over.

I think we would all like to hear from you now and then. I'm sure you've got something new to share 😆

Thanks for the heads-up my friend, or I would have missed your fascinating, detailed account.

Well Vic certainly wasn't a residual haunt. I have heard many times, here on YGS, and other places, that renovations tend to stir up spirits. I guess yours was no exception.
At least you had the satisfaction of knowing he was a charming, good looking gentleman. (Lucky you!)

It would be really interesting to know what Vic was searching for, if anything. Maybe he was just noisy in putting away his belt, etc?

T-Rex won't be spending much time in my garden if we take to the seas 😁 Our next move will have to be to board the Black Sparrow. I would suggest we board her at the Cape Town docks and leave T-Rex to guard her together with the ghostly crew.

I share Jack Sparrow's love of the oceans but I would prefer not to have him along - he'll probably keep the treasure for himself!

I've experienced both sides of Ridgebacks when fixing phones. The stop, go no further (scary side) and the now you are my friend side (You ignore them and they keep bumping into you until you give them a pat).

I think their loyalty to family is very strong.

Ok folks, I've managed to get the ghost writing to appear on the map. As Emma suggested, I used a little spray of lemon juice. I also had a gentle application of dragonfire from Linglong, my baby Dragonette.

Don't worry, Melda, she's housetrained and strictly vegetarian these days. She only flames Trolls on command from the mods. Sorry about the asparagus fern though, she got hungry and wanted a snack. Anyway, here's what I found:

Melda, I asked Rex-T to plant a lovely white Ghost Gum tree in the bald spot left behind in your garden. T-Rex even thumped down the earth around it with his tail. It should look wonderfully ghostly under the moonlight! ❤

Hi Melda & Emma, as requested, here's Jubeele's Special Dipping Sauce (for pot-stickers) :
¼ cup water, ¼ tsp chicken stock powder, ½ tbsp light soy sauce, 1 tbsp sweet chilli sauce, ½ tbsp rice wine vinegar (or balsalmic vinegar). Vary the proportions to your tastebuds. My husband pours it over his dumplings and then drinks up the rest. I rarely have any leftovers, no matter how much I make!

Oh noooooo lady-glow. That is one of the most disturbingly funny you-tube clips I've seen so far.

If I put one of those suits on, T-Rex would either eat me, mother me or worse. These outcomes are not remotely appealing.

Bugs did get suited up in a Tassie Devil suit with long eye lashes and a big bear trap for a mouth (with lipstick). I'll just have the suit thanks.

I've got some ideas on where to start but we first need permission from Melda.

RANDYM - Great to hear from you again.

I don't know for a fact who Vic is but I have an idea who he might be. The suburb I live in, in Pretoria SA was established in 1967, so I think it is fair to judge that the house was built between then and 1970. It is a late 60's, early 70's style of house. We effected a number of changes however.

The house, when we bought it at the end of 1987, belonged to a woman who was a few years older than we were, my husband being 38 at the time and yours truly 37 (a veritable chicken). The lady had been widowed and the property was left to her in her husband's will.

She remarried and her husband had power of attorney to effect the sale of the property. They had moved to another city in SA and rented out the property for a number of years until they decided to sell. We then bought this property.

Now to cut a long story short, pardon me but I know it has already become long, I believe that Vic was the original owner of the property. I could of course be horribly wrong but that is what I THINK. There were two sets of renters and neither of those guys looked remotely like Vic. I know that because I met them.

I suppose I could delve into the whole history of the property and in fact I did do some research into Deeds Office records but that was a while ago. It was rather a waste of time because I didn't come up with anything noteworthy. By the way, that was before Vic left and before I knew his name.

I don't know what my husband did with our title deed to the property but I'm sure I can obtain a copy from the Deeds Office if I really want to. Being SA, I might not even be around anymore myself by the time they dig it up for me!

I don't think that Vic's mode of entry was via the closet. I think he came in via the kitchen door and left the same way. Well, he definitely exited my bedroom via the door.

I really hope that Vic will not be coming back. I want to believe that he is now where he truly belongs continuing his spiritual journey. He's not going to manage that by rummaging through my husband's closet 😊

I'm of the opinion the closet is where there was something familiar to Vic or possibly where he entered your home from. Even though spirits don't need a particular place they can be creatures of habit just as we are on this side of death.
There was something about your house that made him happy and thus he kept returning there. Have you ever tried to find out who all had ownership or lived there before you? Sure would be cool if you found the name Victor as a occupant from the past.
Really glad you found out a name to put with the man who became your friend
Names help us define who we are. Maybe he did move on or has gone elsewhere for a while. Who knows. You may hear that closet make noise again sometime
There is no hurry on their part as time doesn't mean to them what it does to us.

Melda, I have a theory as to what Vic was searching for in your closet - buried treasure! Maybe he had a secret stash of Krugerrands squirreled away and was intending to share it with you.

Or he had a map as to where he'd stashed his treasure, hidden in a secret compartment somewhere in the closet. So if you ever wish to install a walk-in wardrobe in place of that closet, don't forget to keep an eye out for that treasure map or gold coins! 😜

Mona - Thanks for reading all my accounts, I'm honoured. No, Vic has not always been with me. Read my reply to Emmaline and you will understand why I say so.

Emmaline - My personal opinion is that Vic arrived after we did some major renovations to the house. We threw out all bathroom and kitchen fittings and replaced them with new modern ones, as well as re-tiling both bathrooms and the kitchen. We also enlarged the outside patio and replaced the roofing and did a lot of maintenance work to the swimming pool.

So if Vic had lived in that house sometime during his life, there were a few areas, plus outside area, he would have found very different when he decided to drop in for a visit.

The bedrooms are exactly as they were when we bought the house, with the exception that they have been painted a few times over the years. The closets in the bedrooms are also the original built-in ones. Also, we haven't brought in anything secondhand that he might have been attached to.

Seeing that Vic was so fixated on my husband's closet, I also believe that he was searching for something. I told him many times that there was nothing of his in there but to no avail.

Well, that's rather a long explanation as to my opinion for Vic's presence. I often wonder who he was and if and when he lived in that house. Unfortunately, he didn't want to share.

What a great story! You mentioned that you did renovations to the house. I'm curious to know if you added that closet or modified it? I have this ridiculous mental picture of Vic going "Where did this closet come from?" If it's always been there, it brought to mind another thing - My father always put his cufflinks in his suit jacket pocket. He also had a habit of putting a few hundred dollars of emergency cash on the shelf and covering it up with his hats. He was very old school and didn't want to ever be a burden. I wonder if Vic was looking for his important things that didn't get to his family.

Val - Thanks for understanding that I miss Vic. There were a few early mornings when I actually got out of bed at about 04:00 because I didn't quite know what to do with myself. There was just something missing - a snoring husband on one side but no Vic to talk to, or even chastise, depending on how noisy he became 😊

I don't want another ghost in my house, except perhaps my mother or one of my sisters. However I know full well that that won't happen as they crossed over immediately after death - I think - who can be sure?

Rex-T - I'm very pleased to hear that you're feeling better. Nobody told me anything to the contrary but I'm "psychic" you know 🙄. Jokes! As far as I know I'm not psychic.

Mentioning the SA wine (of course we're pretty well known for our wines as well) but I'd love to give the South Australian a try as I do enjoy good wine. We had a Minister belonging to one of the political parties, in fact the political party presently in control of the country. She was a heavy alcoholic and had to receive a new liver. She was placed on the top of the list because she was "very important" (sic). Within a year after receiving the new liver, it failed. Why? She drank herself to death.

Don't remove all the T-Rex accouterments - they'll come in handy at some stage. Besides, I don't think you'll eat people you take a liking to. A challenge for sure, but manageable.

South Australian wine sounds worth a try, being a wine lover myself. And no, I don't need a new liver related to fruit of the vine! Reminds me of a song but I won't sing it here 😆

Melda, I don't think missing Vic is strange at all. We grow accustomed to things, they become part of our lives, and when they stop we miss them. Case in point (non paranormal): When I first moved here the family downstairs had a large cuckoo clock, that drove me crazy. In the stillness of the night it sounded abnormally loud, and in the beginning, I'd jar awake at it's cuckooing. A few years down the line, they moved taking the loathsome thing with them, and I missed it! Took me a bit to figure it out, as I laid there in the dark wondering what was 'different'. So missing Vic seems quite normal to me.

Ok, I've done it! My head is now normal again (had to lose a few sharp teeth) and it is now easier and quicker writing comments. This has also been made easier because I can now sit down. Yep... I got rid of the long green tail as well.

Now I'm working on changing my word association. Every time I see 'SA' I think of South Australian wine. As I can't drink alcohol, I need to change this to South Africa.

Melda, Ah! A cat loving spirit! It was indeed a good ghost then! Veeeeeeeery important! Lol

Roylynx - Well Vic was certainly very energetic in the early morning hours! Perhaps he spent most of his days napping in one of the spare bedrooms, specifically so that he could keep me company later when I lay in bed staring at the ceiling 😊

Pity he wasn't into gardening, I could have done with some help there. I mean, the man brought me a weed instead of a flower? Doesn't say much for his gardening abilities!

I tried for a few years to get him to move on. Somehow it didn't seem right for me to make the decision for him. He didn't generate the feeling that he was unhappy or angry. I know I always say to others have your house blessed or cleansed.

When it was time for Vic to go, he took that decision. Perhaps I helped a little by talking to him but at the end of the day, I believe he knew it was the right time to leave.

I have learned a lot from Vic, one of the most important lessons being that it is possible to become fond of a spirit. To me he was almost as normal and predictable as the guy next door. Also, he liked my cat Toby - now that's important!

Jubeele - We've been living in this house since December 1987. Vic wasn't here when we moved in. We did a lot of maintenance work and changes to the house shortly before Vic put in an appearance. Sometimes I think that was part of the reason for his arrival.

The early morning hours were when I was most aware of him. He definitely did at times visit earlier, like when I saw him at approximately 18:30 and the cats saw him round about 21:00 on a few occasions. I think I was so acutely aware of him at plus-minus 03:00 because I tend to be awake at that time. Perhaps he knew I was awake and wanted me to know he was there? That's something that didn't occur to me before.

Yes Vic had a very definite cupboard routine. Perhaps he was wondering what had happened to all his clothes and he didn't fancy the things my husband tends to wear! Having said that, on both occasions when I saw him he was wearing a blue striped T-shirt very similar to the one my husband owned a few years back.

It didn't ever occur to me to take photographs of the orbs. If I'd been a member of YGS at that stage, I would probably have done so. Also, in those days I couldn't really share my experiences as I can on this site and everybody (including my family) would probably have had a good giggle at the photo's.

Well, Vic has now taken his leave and I often think of him and wish him well. I hope that on some level he knows that. You can't live with somebody for 13 years and simply forget that they ever existed 😊

So Vic is gone now? You know, if combined some of my knowledge and reports I have in hand.

Vid's appearance during mid night is the time when there is the most energy for spirits. Spirits like us need to have energy to be able to do things. The spirit's energy will weaken as time goes, just like the living, we age as time goes and eventually will die even with no illness. Well, the spirit shares the same routine I believe.

You did a good thing Melda, telling the spirit to go where it have to. It deserve not to stay in the closet forever. I personally appreciate it.

Melda, you lucky lady. Vic was as charming as he was handsome. But as Asparagus Fern is considered a noxious weed here, I'm afraid I wouldn't have been too thrilled with his token. A spray of night flowering jasmine from my courtyard (aka "Queen of the Night") would have been a better choice? 😜

I wonder if you had thought of setting up a camera, would those orbs have showed in the photos? Was there anything in the history of your house/land as to how he may have been "attached" to you? Perhaps he followed you with the closet or something in it. He sure liked rummaging in there. (Maybe Vic was looking for his favourite belt among your husband's collection!

It seems to me that Vic generally kept to a certain routine. He manifested at a specific time and did things in a particular way. I thought of how a person develops a pattern of behaviour. For instance, when a man comes home at night (or early morning), doesn't he take off his shirt or pants? If he was a tidy individual, he would hang up his belt in the closet, along with the rest of the belts. He may have performed his whole thing in sequence every time, but hid most of the activity as sternly commanded. Apart from that one slip-up, that is.

I believe that Vic was just working his way towards moving on. He just needed the comfort of his past routine and a loving household until he was ready. I'd have stayed around just a little longer for your company too!

Rex-T - I've just realised that I didn't reply to all your questions.

It is possible that Vic was around for longer and I wasn't aware of him because he was such a benign soul. However I don't think he was around for a long period of time before that because I normally sense spiritual beings. My cat Dixie, however, brought him to my attention in short shrift! Unless something supernatural goes out of its way to attract my attention, it could possibly take some time before I become aware of it.

The orbs? I can't even begin to explain those. They appeared for a while when Vic visited but eventually stopped altogether. As I said, no light shining in the courtyard to have caused them. Perhaps somebody can explain that to me.

Vic did not enter via the orbs, he walked into my bedroom straight to my husband's closet, via a rather long passage. My bedroom is at the end of the passage. Lounge, dining room, kitchen, three bedrooms on the way to my bedroom. He also left via my bedroom door.

The huge question in my mind is did he live here prior to his death and was my husband's closet at some stage his? If so, what did he keep in there that was so important to him?

You might find this difficult to believe but I actually liked Vic. Perhaps if we had met in life we might have had a few things in common.

I also have to admit though, at times he irritated all kinds of hell out of me - hence my rather aggressive attitude to him at times when he overplayed his welcome 😆

Rex-T - Firstly, lose the size of your head. Just because I thought you were a dinosaur doesn't mean you are one 😆 There are, of course, other reasons for big heads but you don't belong in any of those categories.

Vic is somebody, okay a ghost, I will never forget. I wish I knew where he came from, why he was there, what he was searching for. Possibly he lived in my house before and my husband's closet was his during his lifetime? I would give my eyeteeth to know what he hid there!

Yes I had a few run-ins with him when he became noisy or hid things, placed weeds on my bedside table - but who knows, if we had met in this life he and I might have been very good friends.

Unfortunately, no answers to many questions. We are left to wonder.

Vic was certainly good looking, obedient and respectful (including a little mischievous) but I don't know whether I can take any credit for his passing over. I did nag him about it a few times, even before I knew his name, but I think he actually took that step on his own. I would like to think that I assisted in some small way but I will never know.

Melda, incredible experience and a detailed account over many years. It must have been challenging to recall and put into words. In all probability I'd still be writing it all down (then again my head keeps bumping the PC).

Just a few questions.

Do you think Vic may have been around longer and your two kittens may have alerted you to his presence? I know Dixie's look, when I was living at my mum's place, our cat (Whiskey) would be playing in the lounge room and all of a sudden look up at the wall, then at me. I'd look at the spot on the wall, saw nothing but did get a chill running down my spine.

The orbs of light in the bathroom sound like where he was entering your place.

I also got the impression that he understood your sense of humor and may have played a few tricks just to see you laugh.

I hope Vic has gone to a better place as I think he was a lovable rogue.😁
