Augusta,

Thank you for following up with the information on what your neighbors have experienced.

My oh my, your building appears to be crowded. At least, the 'crowd' seems to be curious and harmless though.

I've experienced the shirt (and hair) tugging before. Whatever it was felt playful, so I kind of laughed it off.

I love how you've done your homework on the location's history, it provided so much clarification and understanding.

Thank you for sharing your account, I really enjoyed it!

I agree with your theory, Jubeele - its quite similar to what I've been thinking. I also think that during the night, particularly the wee hours, life in general slows down - there is less energy rushing about that would otherwise interfere. Scientifically speaking too, the physical body is at its weakest in the wee hours of the night. I think all if these things combine to increase the potential for paranormal experiences in the night. I think too that it was these realities that led to an erroneous assumption of there being some sinister significance to 3AM.

And I do take our gentleman to be a benign presence and I think that after that last cuddle he may have moved on. That may have given him the confidence he needed. I have not had any visits from him I don't think since then.

The small critter on the bed is still a mystery to me. Though I would like to think it was my late kitty and it did head to her spot on the bed, the sneakiness of the stopping and starting would be unheard of for her and the fact that I was so immediately made afraid by it... All gives me pause.

As for my neighbors' experiences - I will relate only what I recall the best. Know that there are other occurrences that have likely slipped my mind. Starting from our nearest neighbors and working down - first we come to couple 'A' living next to us. They have seen our 'harbinger' black kitties before the passing of their cat and heard voices. One Thanksgiving, they were over for dessert and Mr. 'A' saw a little woman peaking around my kitchen door (I have her seen her) - evidently she stood there for quite some time peaking out at him. Directly below them we have couple 'B'. Mrs.'B' has seen a small Chinese lady and a redheaded boy in their bedroom (the first place the Yellow Fever hit was a tenement house tenanted primarily by Irish and Chinese workers). Mr.'B' was sitting at his back door having a smoke one evening when he heard footsteps come through the dining room and into the kitchen. He heard a bit of rustling and assumed it was Mrs. B. Then the footsteps came up to him and tugged firmly on he back of his shirt. On turning, he saw there was no one there. Below them is couple 'C'. Mrs. C can see spirits a bit better than most. She has two resident spirits. One roams from the yard out back into her kitchen and one stays in the hallway. She sometimes picks up anger from the hallway spirit, which seems to be a man. Both she and couple D across from her frequently have things go missing only to turn up in the spot they first looked.

Augusta, I have a theory about why these activities always seem to happen at bedtime. That's when we are relaxed, getting ready for sleep and our natural barriers in our conscious minds are down. I believe we're more "open" at this point between wakefulness and sleep. Our consciousness hovers between one realm and another. In such a state, those who are sensitive could be contacted more easily by entities from otherworlds. This could be why visions, astral travelling and visitations so often take place when we dream.

From your account, I do get the impression that your "gentleman caller" means you no harm. Maybe he simply wished to recapture a fleeting moment of warmth and comfort. I wonder if he was mimicking Andy's nightly routine so as to connect in a way that was familiar to you and not appear threatening.

Like Dee, I also think that movement on your bed might be a ghostly cat or small dog. Some little furkid dropping by to say "hello". 😊

You really must get that journal going. What awesome reading it would make! 😘

Hahaha! The reaction from your neighbor: "Holy S---!... Priceless! 😁

I'm looking forward to reading about your neighbors experiences. Hope you get a good nights rest! 😊

CuriousDee, I'll click over and read your story in the morning.

I rather like our gentleman ghost too. He seems like a good sort and I feel for his loneliness.

I do regularly try talking with our ghosties both in my head and sometimes aloud. I set ground rules mostly (no scaring me, no scaring the cats etc). But I have never done anything like an EVP session and certainly no OB (tempting but too much Pandora's box potential there).

The neighbors have had experiences from full body apparitions to touches to sensations and things going missing. Right now its late here and I am exhausted from a long day but I will comment soon as I get a chance with some of their experiences (even though they aren't family, we are a very tight knit group and I count their experiences as creditable and I figure sharing them in the comments of my own story is within the rules). For tonight, I'll mention the reaction we received one evening on sharing with a long time resident of the neighborhood just what building we lived in - on hearing our answer, he reeled back, nearly choked on his water and sputtered, "Holy s---! That place is haunted as f---!"...That's not the only time we have received similar reactions...

I remember reading that experience of yours and they are so very similar! Given that Andy was never in the room during his visits and the one experience Andy had in bed left a slightly uncomfortable impression on him - I get the feeling that the male entity may feel slightly wistful about Andy's presence. I would say jealous but that sounds more negative than I take this fellow to be - more that he looks at Andy and remembers the time when he had that role and misses it and the people that went with it. I haven't sensed him around really since that last time he came and cuddled. Perhaps that was enough for him and he was able to let go and cross over... I hope so, he seemed like a good man and I would like to think that he has found peace.

Augusta,

I would definitely feel uneasy if I had to deal with this frequently. But... For some reason, I felt sadness for the spirit of this man. Maybe because he genuinely seems to want to "cuddle" with you. Maybe because his attempts for attention seem harmless (I know, it's a different story when I'm not dealing with this). I don't know. It just made me feel sad for him. Would you be open to talking out loud to him in a gentle, firm way? Perhaps just acknowledging him, or setting boundaries?

Your description of something moving/walking up your bed reminded me of a story I shared a bit ago, about my deceased dog visiting. He did the same thing, walked up my bed until he reached my hip area. If your interested, here's the link:

I can't imagine living in a location that sits atop a mass burial. Have you spoken with neighbors to see if they encounter anything unusual/similar? Great job on including the history!

Augusta - you could have been writing one of my experiences! My mouth was literally wide open in shock as I was reading this 😲

You said you haven't started keeping record of the events, but this is a good starting point. Maybe keeping track of everything you can think of: day, time, weather (which I am very bad about), moon phase, mood of your home could help figure out what is going on and why.

I don't want to get into your personal business so I'll try and be as subtle as I can, but not too cryptic. I, like you I'm sure, wonder why it is when Andy is out of the bedroom. I had an experience years ago that I have yet to submit where I was comforted. That thought ran through my mind while reading this.

As for the cat, I have at least one of the non-living felines who likes to jump off my table 😠 I'm assuming it's the same one who crawls in/on my bed. Kind of startling when it's not one of the living ones LOL

Crazy? Nah 😉
