You sound like a very sensable and intelligent fellow. This thing is not trying to get your attention, it may be testing you to see what your reaction would be. It is not good and if I were you I would start the process that the priest gave you right away. This thing is starting torment and it needs to be dealt with, and it can't hurt to do what he said. The key here is that it is not normal and should not be there and I is possible that it could start trouble between you and your mate. Much better to deal with it now than later.

Hi...your story was well-written and engaging. But I have a question concerning one of your comments here... You said:

"BTW: I'm not mentioning this book because I have financial ties to it. Just thought if you are like me (facinated by this stuff) you might enjoy it. It is:
An Exorcist Tells His Story
By: Gabriele Amorth
Kinda hard to find. Somewhat limited. But enjoy!"

What do you mean you are not mentioning the book here? You just mentioned both the title and the author in your post!

Also, how do you have "financial ties" to a book by an exorcist unless you yourself are an exorcist?
Sorry, this did not make sense to me at all.

Lou,

I was thinking the same thing. I have read much on behavioral changes due to the "supernatural". I'll ask one of the brothers about them. Hopefully, they were not doing any type of Occult activity. Then again... Could just be an angry man. Low paying employment...bills...bad marriage. Who knows, but I will ask anyway. I guess there were holes in the walls that they had to repair. I found that to be odd.

Danny,

Glad you liked it. I have not returned yet, but I plan to ask God to help any spirits that are in there as the Father suggested. Then I'll wait to see if it coninues. If it does I'll use his contacts he gave me to have the house properly Blessed. I did include a Pic of the house when I submitted this article (3 days ago now). Perhaps the good folks at "Your Ghost Stories" take a little while before uploading a pic?

Hardly boring. Well planned out and executed. You put forth a good groundwork for the story, and provided good detail without rambling.

One or two typos, big deal.

For the banging I've heard similiar. May I suggest Cold Iron if nothing else seems to work.

And such shouldn't be too difficult to locate in your location in Minnesota.

Awesome story...
Very articulate and precise. Not boring at all. I also live in a handmade house, and I love it.
Just a couple of questions?
Have things changed since you went back, and did you follow the Father's advice?

Would love to read more as you experience them. The way you write makes one want to read more.
Any Pics?

Shads,
Congratulations on initiating a great bunch of posts...I'm seeing some names I haven't seen in a while... Nice to know you are all still reading. Since I agree with most of the advice thrown at you, I won't bore you by saying who I agree with... But to address the questions you have posted:
EVP: Electronic Voice Phenomenon... You can get EVP'S both, by setting up a recorder and capturing the sounds of the house and possible activity, or you can record yourself asking questions of the spirits and reviewing the tape later to see if you got any responses. I am in no way encouraging you to do this if you are uncomfortable participating. As many posters warned, it could stir things up.
With regards to the previous renters... Paranormal forces are affected by, and affect individuals differently. The "angry man" could have invoked the activity with the negative energy he brought to the environment. My concern for you and your girlfriend is... Was he angry before he lived in this house? I doubt he is findable... And probably even less approachable about this subject; but maybe you could get some info from the brothers on whether his demeanor and temperament changed, in their opinion, while he was staying there. Another concern, the brothers said that they had to do repairs and renovations from damage the previous tenants caused... I wonder if they found anything that could be related to potential ritualistic practices the tenants may have participated in? You and your girlfriend sought the solitude of the farm house to get away from hectic lifestyles and work environments... Others seek solitude for other reasons.

Yes this happened to me when I was a child. My brother & I were being baby sat. I was age 9 he was 6. The baby sitters warned us before they put us to bed that there was a child spirit/ghost up in the attic. I didn't believe them for some reason. Sure enough about 2:00 a.m. I heard the feet stomping across the attic above me. I wasn't scared in the least bit. I got up ran to their room and opened their door. I requested they take me up stairs so I can see for myself what this nonsense is about. The man of the house was shocked but granted me my request. Grabbing flash lights we went up stairs. First and foremost, the attic was completely locked up. Everyone in the house was asleep. Upon getting to the top of the stairs, the attic was completely empty with not even a box on the floor.

Satisfied with what I saw, I thanked him and went to lay back down. As soon as I laid back down the childs footsteps started up again. Back and forth, until it lulled me to sleep.

Apparently the best anyone could guess was a small child must have died here and was just hanging out in the attic for some reason unbeknownst to us. It was a spirit, of that I am sure. Why it was there, I have no idea. But I believe it because I heard with my own ears and saw 'nothing' scientific or 'other' logic that people rely upon to explain things away that could possibly make that noise. Simply put, there are things out there that we just can't explain. Period. Thanks for sharing.

shads,

First, I'd like to welcome you in this site. 😜. You will actually find a lot of stories like yours here.

Second, your story is long but interesting. I may say that it could be the dad or the brother that is doing the banging and making your dogs bark that way. Your presence may have agitated the spirit of either of the two. Probably they are not approved about the boyfriend/girlfriend thing living together prior to marriage. You could also be a sensitive to this kind of things however you are in the state of denial that there is no ghost. There are spirits that are agitated by people as per my experience. If you want, you could read "My Boyfriends Place".😉

Third, since you mentioned that you are skeptic, they, I mean the spirits, might be telling you that "hey! We are real, dude!"

Fourth, it could actually be residual or the father and the son could not leave the place. They might have an unfinished business.

Fifth, the previous people who rented the house might have left bad energy and it triggered the spirits or it could be the renovation that took place

Of course, science could still be a factor. I agree that it could be a loose floor board or it could be a beam problem.

As long as the spirits will not hurt you or your girlfriend then you guys have nothing to worry.

PS
I found the book in amazon.com, looks like a good book for all supernatural lovers out there like us.

Pete16,

Thanks for the good advice. I always like to look at all options before I make a decision (life, business). Always looking for something I may have over looked (such as the support beams in the basement). And you're right. A lot of bad info out there.

Excellent, well told story. It kept me on edge the whole time. I wish I had some answers for you, but I'm not well versed in solving these problems (though I've experienced some of my own). I hope the priest's advice works for you and that you'll let us know what happens. Thanks very much for sharing this with us.

shads, I think it is always a good idea to try to find logical reasons for anything first. With that said, I think you're doing a good job at trying to debunk the sounds you're hearing. I think it is also a good idea to keep doing what you're obviously doing--recording and documenting your experiences to try and find patterns (and THAT is scientific...). I can understand your uneasiness and I can understand your desire to figure out what you are experiencing. However, I also think you should be cautious. Looking for multiple opinions and researching can be very helpful, but only YOU truly know what you are experiencing, and you're right, there is a lot of extremism out there... Just be prepared to use your head, and remember that (since you are new to belief in the paranormal) just because "the community" has many names and "answers" for what occurs doesn't mean we KNOW. In fact, I believe it is why we all share stories and discuss, to find that common ground or a sense of consistency that atleast feels a bit like the scientific method. With that said, just because you may not find definite answers to your questions does not mean that they do not exist. I hope this makes sense! I simply don't want you to think everyone on this site believes you have a "demon" or believes that the paranormal is cut and dry.
Please keep us updated! I really enjoyed your detailed story!

rhondaskppr,

Thanks for the advice. I think you are right. My "gut feeling" tells me not to fool around with this situation if it is indeed "supernatural".After all... It is just "banging". No need to make it worse. I will say a prayer in the house like the Exorcist told me. Hopefully that's all it needs.

BTW: I was given a book. It is the first hand account of an Exorcist and his findings from his point of veiw. Its actually facinating! There is no "Bible thumping" or what's wrong or right. He merely tells of what he has experienced in plain English. Some of it is so "Fantastic" that it almost seems like a fairy tale. But I suppose I should believe what he says since it is a Priest from the Catholic Church.

For instance: In one chapter he tells about he and another Exorcist were trying to dispel a particularly nasty spirit from a person. They soon learned that the demon was summoned there by a cursed object. They asked the demon where this object was. It told them its buried three feet from a particular tree. So they went out and found the tree and began to dig. The found a wooden box and the cursed item with in. And so they burned it as the Catholic Church has taught them. But he admits they made a mistake. They should have pour Holy Water on it while saying a particular prayer. THEN burn it and while it burns to continue to say the prayer. Unfortunatly, they were not successful in dispelling the demon.

The whole book is filled with these types of stories. He even knows the difference between Science and the Supernatural. In the book he states how he suggested that the person who was thought to be possessed was actually mentally ill. And also vis versa. A mental institution asked him to look at a patient because nothing they were doing was helping. He soon found out the person was possessed. Really good reading.

BTW: I'm not mentioning this book because I have financial ties to it. Just thought if you are like me (facinated by this stuff) you might enjoy it. It is:

Shads, from the sounds of things, you are actively researching, which is VERY good. So what I'm going to suggest next you probably have already read or heard about.

Anger, hostility, any negative influences in a home can also bring about entities.

This one I know from personal experience.

Miracles,

Ahhh... Thats right. The voice she heard and the footsteps (maybe). One thing though is that perhaps the place was already active when she moved in. I would like to talk to the previous renters and ask them, but from what I understand the Husband is an angry person.

Glad you liked it. Sorry for the grammatical errors. I don't always check everything... Lol

I have read and also read the comments. I am not new to ghost/spirits...if I was you I would go talk to the brothers that own the house and ask for their help first. If its their brother or father they could come and ask (it) to stop and explain to (it) why you are there. For exsample: times have changed with the whole being marriage first. Its right but times have changed. Sometimes with things happening like this you and your girlfriend could ask it (as if your talking to a real person) to stop. Tell it you understand that. This was your home but you do not mean any. Disrespect but you guys are renting it from (it's). Familey. Just let it know how its making you guys feel. And you wish it would understand that its got you. Guys alittle scared. The whole EVPing... Be careful what your doing. You could make it mad and make it. Really feel like your disrespecting (it's) home. Some. People make simple things worst so please be careful... You could get more then what your asking for. I can't stress this enough. You have too understand ghost/spirit are all around, with this said (it) knows what your planning to do before you do it. Think of it as a fly on the wall. You might not see it, hear it,etc. But it knows your every move. There is no secerts in your house between you and girlfriend. Like if you two deside to try and record it, it already knows the plan so like I said please be careful. I go to church, I'm married and try to live right but I also know and see things I shouldn't know and see. I wouldn't say I'm a medium, I just believe I listen to my spirit guide or guardian angel. Everyone has one. When you get that gut feeling to not do something or whatever the case maybe, well that's your spirit guide trying to guide you on the right track. I hope something helps. You guys are in my prayers. Hope everything works out.

Shads - but your girlfriend did experience things before you moved in, right? They just seemed to be more "demanding" after you moved in with her? Not suggesting anything, just getting things in line here.

By the way, I really enjoyed reading your story.

Miracles,

I have read that too, but after the repairs were done that's when my girl friend moved in. And stayed there for a year. If this is truely "Supernatrual" it probably has something to do with me...unfortunately.

BTW: I uploaded a picture of the house. I wonder why they didn't add it.

Spokie,

If this thing/things are truely "Supernatural" making things worse is exactly what I don't want. In my research I found this to be true and that you do not want to talk to the dead. You should ignore them until you pray for them or bless the house. There are many articles out there that state "Talking" to them will help as well. And that asking them to leave works. I think I will stay away from that and ignore it for now. I won't touch the holy water either. I'm afraid if I start flinging that stuff around I might anger or even "wake-up" something else that just wanted to be left alone in the first place. I'll leave the holy water for the Catholic Priest during the blessing ritual. BTW: for those of you who don't know it. There is a difference between "Blessed" and "Holy" water. The blessed water in the Catholic Church is the stuff you dip your fingers into everyday for mass, praying, ect, ect... Holy water the Catholic Church makes a big batch of once a year just for this kind of thing and it contains SEA salt. I been reading a lot of articles how some folks will throw salt around... What you really want is SEA salt.

Shads - there is a theory that renovations, repairs etc stir up "ghostly" activity. Some people believe that the original owners of the property do not like repairs made to "their" home.

So, perhaps when the previous renters were "evicted" and repairs had to be made, this brought forth the paranormal activity you and your girlfriend, as well as Red and Rufus, are experiencing.

Keep us up-to-date, okay?

Thanks

Lou,

Yes, If it was the old farmer or brother why would they knock at the back door?

Hmmmm...Perhaps to get my attention to see if I hear them? The Back door is situated right in front of the stairs leading to the basement... Do they want me to go there for some reason? Woooo...spooky... Lol

Perhaps they are telling me to leave... Heres the door you Earthly person!... Lol

Come to think of it the furnace is in the basement too. And our room on the 2nd floor is situated right above that area of the back door. Maybe it wasn't the wall that was "Banged" on but the floor. That would still vibrate the dresser as well... Hmmmm... The basement enterence way... Interesting.

Yes, I did not even hear the dogs. At that time though I was so interested/spooked about that "Bang" I didn't even look for them. They might have been cowering for all I know. But seeing as my girlriend was woken up too by this "Bang" in our room. It must have been real and not imagined. I wonder what the dogs were doing during this time... Hmmmm...

Hey guys! Thanks for the advice. I never thought of looking at the supports in the basement. I will do that when I get back. Two things that I failed to mention now that you guys are making me look back.

1) Before my girlfriend moved in there was a family renting there for about 4 months. What I can gather is that the husband was a very angry man (possible domestic violence) and that he would not pay rent. The brothers actually Paid them to move out. It takes a lot to evict someone lawfully and these brothers are old fasioned and probably figured its faster and cheaper just to pay them to leave. Once they left I guess they had to do numerous repairs to the inside because they damaged the property.

2) My dad told me that before I called them telling them I wa coming down that my mother was worried every day about me. Constantly asking him if I called or mumbling about how I was way out there in a Farm House away from any closeby "help". After I called she looked to my father and asked if this was an example of "Mother's Intuition?" My father smiled and said, "It could be!" I asked my father how long she has been this way. He said for about the last 3 weeks or so. Jeeeez... Very interesting. My dad never told my mom that he told me and I havn't mentioned to my mom that I know. I just look at her in wonder now... Lol

Yes, I'll try to look up the history of the property as well. It also crossed my mind that yes, perhaps the old farmer is old fasioned and does not like us "Shacking Up"...

Question: An EVP is where I place a tape recorder somewhere and just let it run?

Shads,
Could trying to communicate with the spirits in this home cause activity to increase?...absolutely, yes it could. Would it create some power greater than what is already present?...no, not in my opinion. Trying to communicate with spirits can be equivalent to inviting them to interact with you more often or freely... If this is something you feel you would not want to risk... By all means, follow Spockie's advice and try to ignore the activity and it could decrease or even go away... Although I think that is unlikely.
For me, I know it is not going away. My circumstances, over the past two decades, have allowed me to realize contact comes in a variety of flavors... From mischievous to malevolent, from residual to pleas for help. I choose to push forward in these situations because I would rather be empowered through my actions, than a victim of my own reactions. As I said, this is my pill to swallow, and I do not fault anyone for their choices in these situations... You have to do what you feel is best for you.

Keep us posted,
Lou

If it were me, unless something happens to make you believe this thing has turned dangerous to you, your girlfriend or your dogs, I would totally leave it alone and try to ignore it. I definitely would not try to contact it in any way, EVP's included. If you stir things up, you might end up with a real problem on your hands, one that will be hard to fix.

Shads: I was going to mention the supports in the basement, since it's not finished... Most people don't think to check them regularly... All kinds of critters like to chew on wooden beams!...And also, about the house being used for other things... My Mom's house was used as a place for wakes... They actually placed the coffin in the bay window... That was a long, long time ago though... Her house is very old, and this house, not so much...

Have you tried any of your priest's suggestions?...I've heard that if cleansings don't work, then the entity isn't evil, and won't leave on their own...

All practical stuff aside, whoever it is seems to not like the situation of you "shackin' up"...LOL!...The father is probably very old fashioned, and may be upset with that...But, I don't think they mean you harm, just wanting attention, is all... My opinion...

Good story, thanks!

Wow that was a great story, I did not find it boring at all! I love how you explain everything and give examples like compairing the bangs to a baseball bat or sacks of potatoes.

I wonder if the father was old-fashioned? What I mean is he may be trying to tell you that he does not approve of the fact that you are living there with your girlfriend without the two of you being married. That kind of thing. So maybe the "banging" sounds you are hearing are his way of saying 'I do not approve.' Or maybe they, the father and/or the son that died, are trying to get you to believe that they are there. I am saying this because in your story you said that the banging did not start up until you moved in with your girlfriend. Just a thought.

I also get the impression that it is not an evil spirit or demon because you said that your girlfriend has been living there for over a year by herself. I think that if there was anything evil it would have shown itself in the time frame that she was there by herself.

Let us know if anything else happens! Take care:)

Shads,
Nothing boring about your story at all... Its nice to get the complete story from a poster and not have to drag out the details after the fact.
Although I have had too many things happen to me in my life to discredit paranormal claims; I am extremely analytical as well.
A couple things stood out to me in your story;...if it is the farmer or the son who was killed... Why would they knock on the door of their own house? Also, I used to live in an old home when I was a kid, and every spring I used to help my father tighten the floor jack stands in the basement that supported the first floor... Sometimes they were so loose you could push them over... Even if the basement is relatively empty, you may not have noticed one of these if it was displaced... It could have fallen against a wall or the furnace, and it would not be all that noticeable in a dark, dingy basement. One more; since your story was so complete, I expect that if the dogs had barked the night you heard the bang on the bedroom wall, you would have mentioned it... As loud as it was, why wouldn't the dogs react in their typical fashion if the noise was audible to you?
Part of what you described could be attributed to residual entities or imprints... Which I am sure you have already looked up. Most people on this site will tell you to look up the history of the land and home and try to find details of who or what you could be dealing with... Which is sound advice. But if the home has only been owned by one family, you probably already know most of it.
One thing I would ask the owners is, was the home ever used for anything else that would have made it open to the public (e.g. A place of business, meeting place, etc.). The occurrences you and your girlfriend have experienced could all be connected to former owners and residents; or it could just be an old place that many people once frequented and are for some reason drawn back to. Have there been any renovations or excavations done on the property lately? Your presence (or even your dog's) at the property could be the trigger for the increase in activity... Or it could just be a highly active place that you will have to get used to.
Regardless of why they are there, the fact of the matter is that they are trying to get your attention... I personally would try an EVP session to try to get some answers... I think in this case, you would be successful through asking questions, or by recording at night when you sleep.

Lou
