I am from the Philippines too. I am so sorry for May. I believe you because we had a neighbor that was abducted by an elemental as per the albularyo said. Also, my grandfather who is my grandmother's younger brother was said to be abducted by the elemetals. When the albularyo saw his body he told them that he should've not been embalmed and what we were crying over is a tree trunk. By the way, my granny is from Capiz.

You know, I can see how and why Elemental Beings could be so... Present at Samar. It is a breeding ground of medicinal herbs, and other plant life virtually unfettered by human interaction. The environment itSELF lends to perfect atmosphere. In it's seclusion from the inhibitors it would have should it NOT be an island...
It is a virtual petri-dish in natural form.

Saying that: We may be dealing with a cultural difference here, as so I say that this is MY opinion, and should be taken as such.
It is MY understanding that Elementals are not prone to violence or any REAL form of human interaction. They tend to shy away from people, and hide in their own camouflage, unless they are completely comfortable with an individual.
Ethel Cook Eliot wrote extensively on Elementals and their playful interaction. Her descriptions of them are so minute and detailed, you can not help but KNOW she had seen them.
I find it very comforting that May came BACK to her Grandmother, in the FORM of an Elemental, or perhaps simply in the ASSOCIATION with them, touching that same tree. To allow her to know that she would be able to see her again.

I'm thinking she broke a bone somewhere in her body when caught in the tree and got trombosis. That's what must have caused the pain and that's why she died.

Thank you guys... I really appreciated your comments... As far as I know... May's spirit is already at peace and according to Jen, the tree spirit (or elemental entity?) was just really fond of her and really didn't mean to get her... That's maybe because May was different among those girls living in the province, Samar probably because of her beauty...

I don't think I have the same definition as an elemental as you do. It sounds more like a tree spirit or nymph. Course this also could have been related to any kind of fae. All of which are powerful enough to do this to a human.

Oh wow this is such a tragic story. Poor May 😢 I don't know much about elemental spirits, but that one did seem pretty powerful. When something like this happens, is the spirit of the victim confined to the tree, or is it possible that May's spirit is at peace? I am crossing my fingers in the hopes you tell me she can be at peace.

These elemental spirits must of been extremely powerful for them to abduct a person. I think they must have leered her away rather than abducted her.

They were probably playing with her.
